Ok........So just let me kick this Thread Off!

I have installed on my comp...Zone Alarm Version 5.5 & Ad Aware 6.0 (that I run every couple of days to get rid of tha' Cookies) and I also try to update them every few days. I also have Norton Antivirus 2004 Pro that I use every few days and update religiously. I delete my temp Internet files at least once a week.

So my question is this....I can't help but feel that I should be doing something else in my maintenance program or should I have another program Installed on my Comp to either protect me better or make my comp operate better.

Well...Do I? What do you run/use on your comp and is it better than what I am using/doing now?

Keep in mind Im on Freakin' Dialup here folks...lol

I have also the same dial up connection like ures Dales...i also have Norton Anti VIrus that i usually use once a week. I even have a Zone Alarm but its called a PC Gate and it works really well for me...One time i had this terrible lag..and what i did was i just scanned my pc with Norton.  Sometimes lots of files or pics on the pc made ure pc moves slow....So if there are unwanted files..i just deleted it.. I only use a prepaid card too..with 57 kbps but sometimes it runs only 37.5 kbps..but still it works well for me. When i am in the room...i am sending pics at the same time and loading songs at the same time...still working. But there are times my connection sucks thats because the telephone cable has a problem and not the connection itself. So i think u should also check ure phone cable maybe thats the problem or u better check the configuration on the properties of ure connection. Roll Eyes

Tina,

You mean I am not alone! I thought I was the Last Person using Dail-Up on Earth! lmao

I live in an area that isn't close to a Major city, and the phone lines are older and can't handle High-Speed, so I only have the Dail-Up option...Yuck!

My Dial-Up speed is usually 45.2 kb's/sec with a max of 48kb's/sec! That isn't even the normal 56K that my modem can process. Ohh well...whaaaataaa am I gonnnaaa do. That's Life Ehh.

I need some TECH Help!

I get a Pop-Up sometimes when I turn off my computer. It has the Normal Windows sound, and this Pop-Up occurs right before my comp shuts off.

The Code Line is:    USRprbdA.exe

And the First line of the Text is:  Failure To Execute...

I did a search in my comp, and the "USR" portion is my Modem (US Robotics)

Here is what I think the code in the Pop-Up means...

USR:  This is to do with my Modem
pr   :  This means  "port"
bd  :  This means "Back Door"
A   :   This is means ?
exe:  This is "Execute"

So my Question is this...... Am I Right...or just SUPER Paranoid? Can anyone tell me EXACTLY what the Heck this Pop-Up Means and what I have to do to get rid of it or correct the situation? Does someone have control or access to my comp?

Dale, that is a program related to a USRobotics modem.  If you still use that modem, In Win ExPee, I recommend that you remove the modem, restart your Windows, shut down, then reinstall the modem.  This should reinstall the driver properly.  If you are running Windows ME/98, just reload the driver with the software provided with the modem.

I have a Few Questions.

I use Norton Anti-Virus Professional Edition 2004. I just want to know how often it is supposed to download updates. I manually use the "Live Update" feature several times a week, and I can't seem to remember the last time I had any updates to download. I think I get an update about twice a month. Is that NORMAL? Will the Norton automatically download updates once I come online. I have given the Norton Program full access through my Zone Alarm Firewall. Hmmm...maybe I am Super-Paranoid. lol

Another Question about Norton deals with my Auto-Scan feature. I have set the feature to preform an indepth scan of all my files and drives once a week on Fridays 8pm. My question is this...if I am not online at that time, will the program still scan my files or will the program skip the procedure until the next time the computer is turned on at the proper scan time and date?

I have always wondered about that.  Huh

Dale,
You need to setup Live Update to fetch your updates automatically.  I recommend once per week.  I also recommend you do it before your weekly scan.  Yes, you do need to punch through your firewall to allow Live Update to access the Internet.  The reason why you want to do a weekly is that Symantec and McAfee are a virus target from time to time and a virus payload package can change the way that these anti-virus programs look at your files on your harddrive.  More than once, I have removed trojans and other forms of virii with a supposedly updated Norton or McAfee because a virus got to it first before a critical update was downloaded.  Also, I have seen these virii packages stop Live Update from working properly to also make  the user believe that everything is ok.  You may try and create a "ultimate" boot cdrom for your operating system and stick on there F-Prot for DOS.  Check out these links for some info:

     Ultimate Boot CD
     http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/faq.html

     UBCD
     http://ubcd4win.com/

I know we are not always techically oriented here and I never expect people to be.  If you find yourself in constant virus trouble, these are tools constructed to help you.  Or, you can ask questions here or just pay a guy like me to fix it  Grin
