Cable TV or Satellite Dish?

After seeing one goofy commercial after another, what is your preference....cable or satellite?  I think Comcast is a bucket of steaming crap but, where I am living, I'm getting it free of charge.  What do you think?  For those outside of the US, what are your options and how do you feel about them?

Ree, I have all the programing of Directv at this moment. I have a High Definition Television, but I dont get High Def service. Directv offers a few channels-HBO, Showtime, Cenimax, and Stars each have 1 High Def channel. Thats it for the most part. I have basic cable as well with comcast, but I only watch it when the weather outside is bad and I cant recieve a signal from my dish. The picture with basic cable on comcast is awful. Im not sure what the digital service with comcast is like. Thats the main problem between cable and a satellite. When its raining outside you are probably not gonna get a signal with a satellite, but with cable u dont have that problem. Im having some problems with Directv now. Sometimes Im not able to get ESPN 1, 2 of the CNN channels, TBS, and TNT. I know CNN, TBS, and TNT are out of Atlanta. Im not sure where ESPN is broadcast from. I called Directv to help fix the problem. They ran me through a few steps. I figured I needed to adjust my dish a little. But I didnt want to get on my roof and adjust the dish. I almost killed myself up on my roof a few years ago putting up xmas lights. I was trying to see if they would send someone out and do it for free. No such luck. I dont get it. Im a customer for a long time and I pay them a lot of money. I think if thats the problem, I should get that kind of service at no charge. Anyway the guy said that all I needed was a new card. I asked are you sure. He said thats all you need. They charged me for a new card to put in my reciever. This kind of made me mad. I got the card a few days later and put it in and I still had the same problem. I called and another dude told me I probably needed to adjust my dish on my roof a little. I figured thats what it was. I then told him what about the 20 dollars I paid for the card that wasnt the problem. He said they would credit my account. I had Directv for about 8 years. Until now, I never had a problem with them.

There is a new Satellite service called voom that they are selling now at Sears.  They offer 25 hig def channels plus the 1 each from HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, and Stars. They also offer all the local channels around DFW.  They also offer all of the digital channels that Directv does. Its called the Vavoom package and it costs 89 dollars a month. Im paying 95 dollars a month now with directv. What do u think I should do? Should I scrap what I have now or purchase this new package from Voom. It would cost 180 dollars to set the Vavoom package up.

Directv has pissed me off. I was supposed to have a technician come to my house and fix my dish last monday. He called at 630pm and told me he couldnt make it. I took half the day off just to be at my house so he could fix it. An hour latter directv called me to reschedule for saturday cuz im not taking off work again. So Saturday comes and the technician arrives. He uses my tools and my ladder to fix my dish. Then he charges me 75 dollars and leaves. Why do I feel screwed? Ive been a customer of directv for over 8 years. Why have they screwed me? Well screw them. This coming Saturday I will have voom as my new satellite service. I will get 35 high definition channels and all the same digital channels that directv offers. I will also get all the local high defintion and digital channels. All for a cheaper price than what Im paying right now for directv. Its time for a change since ive purchased this high definition television over 2 years ago.

If I could tell Comcast to kiss my ass, then get a satellite, I would.

What cable doesnt tell people is that they get their services from satellite also.It has to rain somewhere. Grin
