ok, for those brave enough to even think about it, or have questions about it...this linux group is for you.  Thinking about giving linux a shot? It's as easy as getting Knoppix.  Just boot the Knoppix cd and *BOOM*... instant linux system.  In the next month, I will be selling linux cdroms on this site for those without badnwidth or those just not wanting the hassle.

OK now, post away!

Well, that's a strange one, jinx.  Have you setup your graphical desktop stuff yet?  And, which distro are you using that you ran into this?  It kinda sounds like your system has not properly recognized your video card and/or monitor.

Well jinx, lilo or grub are installed right now....no linux system will boot without either one.  The are linux based boot loaders / managers.  I'm not sure what tools Gentoo Linux has to manage boot loaders.  You will need to add the partition information about your windows to your bootloader.  I can tell you that your bootloader, which ever it is, is loaded in your MBR (Master Boot Record).  I'm sure that Gentoo will have some sort of tool to manage the bootloader, but not being a Gentoo Linux user, I don't know what that tool would be.

Gentoo I think is more intensive than RedHat...or as we call now Fedora.  Think of Gentoo as a hotrod.  It goes like hell, but you are always under the hood to make it go like hell.  Fedora is a much more "safer" approach with it's packaging tools of rpm, yam and apt...and is easier to administor.

Well jinx, gentoo is a tough way to start on a linux journey.  I would have recommended Mandrake.  People swear by Gentoo's portage manager....but, I don't think Gentoo is widely used as a server platform.  It is more of a hobbyist's linux.  I have it here myself, and I may load it sometime.
