For those beginning Linux users....and those vets like me, there is a big thing brewing in the linux and open source world. XRree86 4.4 was released just a few days ago. There is a caveat though. The new license for it now is in violation of the GPL. That means that any software written that compiles with XFree86 libraries will break their own GPL license. The major distros (as well as many others) will not be including 4.4 in their upcoming releases. The bad news is that alternative are not ready for prime time. We'll see how it all shakes out.
