Mandriva 2008 - First Impressions

My first impressions of Mandriva 2008 can be summed up in one word:  WOW!  Everything on my system is running fast and smooth.  For the first time, I can use my USB wireless network key out of the box without a kernel panic.  Everything updated over 2007.1 without a hitch with the DVD I downloaded.  I have yet to test my IBM video camera and will do so tonight.  One small niggle was the source set for my installation data was not working properly.  I'll fix that and I also installed an Internet source for the installation data as a fix.  I do hope though that they release a package for OpenOffice 2.3.0 as I foresee extensions appearing soon that will add to the power of that free office suite.  I can't recommend enough Mandriva 2008 for anyone taking their first steps into Linux.  Huzzah!

Yup, my IBM USB camera works great.  Next, I'll check Gyachi Enhanced to see if the audio and video in that works.  Whoohoo!
