Of course it does. How we communicate with each other is very importants so there will be no confusions. Take this this joke for example:

Subject:  FW: New EUR-English
    >
    >
    >>
    >>
    >>European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English
    >>will be the official language of the European Union rather than German,
    >>which was the other possibility.
    >>
    >>As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that
    >>English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a
    >>5- year phase-in plan that would become known as " Euro-English".
    >>
    >>In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this
    >>will make the sivil servants jump with joy.
    >>
    >>
    >>The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up
    >>konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.
    >>
    >>
    >>There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the
    >>troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words
    >>like fotograf 20% shorter.
    >>
    >>
    >>In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be
    >>expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.
    >>
    >>Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have
    >>always ben a deterent to akurate speling.
    >>
    >>Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the
    >>languag is disgrasful and it should go away.
    >>
    >>By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing
    >>"th" with "z" and "w" with "v".
    >>
    >>During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords
    >>kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensi bl riten styl.
    >>
    >>Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu
    >>understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.
    >>
    >>Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted
    >>in ze forst plas.
    >>
    >>If zis mad you smil, pleas pas on to oza pepl.

See? How are we going to understand what the other meant if we will have a hard time understanding what we are trying to say to each other?

lolol sistah!

True though, good communication maintains a relationship well.  Some people in relationships speak the same language and still encounter problems rising from poor communication, what more for those people who speak different languages...

I agree, sistah. I have read somewhere that lovers only need body language, but it's not applicable all the time, eh? You should see a "clip" of these language barrier RJ sent me, it's a hilarious conversation about a german coast guard and the mayday call from an american sinking ship!

I have to ask RJ to send it to you. I don't have the link anymore and he was the one who send me that one. Can you imagine having a relationship with someone, then all the while he was trying to get you pregnant and you're doing your best to avoid it coz you both misunderstood each other? Or a girl still waiting for the guy to come back because she thought the boyfriend just went out to buy something when the other guy has already told her he's going away for good?

In a relationship, sometimes if not most of the time, we communicate  just for the sake of communication, but we're not open.  We share stories of others but failed to share our very own because of some few reasons, shyness for one.  We feel embarrassed because the other might interpret it differently or worst it might angered him/her. It's kind of awkward too.    It might bore her/him. Men in general tend to be quite secretive too, not communicative or if ever they talk, it's not about themselves but others.  Men in general are not comfortable to talk about their feelings, emotions all the time.  One is enough for them.   Oh well, a long  lasting relationship needs to communicate daily, openly and with all honesty.

Am I making sense? LOL

Gracia, what you said make sense but I think RJ was referring to like for example a relationship between a Pinay and a German who both do not speak english?
