The Amazing Race: Fifth Season
« on: Jun 30th, 2004, 11:48am »

The Amazing Race  One if not The best reality show premiers it's fifth season on Tuesday July 6th with a 90 minute episode on CBS.

Host Phil Keoghan returns for the fifth season as he kicks off this season's opening show on the Santa Monica Pier in California. As 11 teams dash around the globe in pursuit of a 1 million dollar prize.

The eleven teams are:

Linda 45 & Karen: Best friends and self-proclaimed bowling moms from Palmdale California. They look sweet, but they are in it to win. "I think it's going to work to our advantage", Linda says. "They'll say 'Those are the friendly moms', and we will zomp 'em one by one."

Chip 46 & Kim 44: Other teams representing the 40-something set are Chip and Kim, married for 26 years, parents of three, and co-owners of their own computer company.

Bob 61& Joyce 54: A widow and a widower who met on the Internet, they are, at age 61 and 54, the competition's oldest participants, a fact that they say they will use to their advantage.

Kami 26 & Karlie 26: It wouldn't be The Amazing Race without a set of identical twins. This time out, there's feisty Kami and Karlie from Eugene Oregon. Says Kami, "part of this race will include doing what we're good at, which is..."in unison with Karlie, she concludes, "...manipulating".

Marshall 31 & Lance: Just as feisty are these New York brothers who moved to Dallas to open up a pizzeria. Says Lance, "We don't get along, we fight all the time, we don't agree." Marchall adds, "We're the exact opposite in terms of thought process, personality, everything we do."

Brandon 25 & Nicole 21: This is one of two teams that include a beauty pageant winner. Nicole was Ms. Texas in 2003.

Christie 26 & Colin 24: Christie, a former Ms. Teen USA, plans on using her pageant experience to help herself and her boyfriend, Colin, cross the finish line first.

Erika 25 & Dennis 27: These upstate New Yorkers were engaged untill Dennis learned of Erika's passion for sky diving without clothes. He has since called off the nuptials. He says, "I flipped out. I didn't expect her to come down naked skydiving. She thinks it's a big joke."

Jim & Marcia 26: They are not your typical father and daughter. He's a former Vietnam vet and she's a former NFL cheerleader.

Charla 27 & Mirna 27: Charla is the show's first little person who hopes to shatter many common stereotypes when she competes with her cousin, Mirna. Says Charla, "The image people get when they first see me, they think I can't do anything. They think I'm not capable. This is totally wrong. I'm capable of doing anything and everything."

Alison 23 & Donnie: In another first, Alison is a former reality star who wants a second chance to seek fame and fortune- this time, with her boyfriend, Donny. She says, "I was on Big Brother and came in second place. And I did alot of bad things."

This show is always entertaining and brings out some of the best and worst in the contestants.

I am a serious reality show junkie, and after Survivor All-Stars ended I have been left without a quality reality show to park my azz on the couch each week and look forward to watching. Can't wait.

I LOVE Reality Shows. Amazing Race is also my favorite, a close second is Fear Factor. Not a big fan of Survivor though -----

I am so looking forward to watching it. Three thumbs up.  Grin

Cathy,

I need to know exactly what time and day that you get to watch The Amazing Race, because I want to post my comments about each episode. And I don't want to post any information if you haven't watched it yet.

I hate when I know what's going to happen.  Grin

I am watching the first episode right now, and dang...LOL I love this show.

Yah...Cathy, I won't post anything too specific 'till you have watched it. I am watching it again...I always tend to miss a couple of things 'cause the action happens so fast.

I will however..tell you that there is an incident with raw beef...100lb's to be exact. And one team has a bloody accident that requires medical attention. Ohh dear..said too much already.

There is a new feature this season. The "Yield" feature. The Yield station is located once in every leg, and teams that reach it can choose a picture of another team and use their Yield option. This option means that the choosen team must stop for a period of 30 minutes when they have reached the Yield station. Teams may only use their Yield feature once in the game similar to the "Fast forward".

I can already put most of the teams into the "Wolves", teams who are smart & fast, and the "Sheep", teams who don't really think their moves out much and just tend to follow the others.

I am sure if some of the teams don't smarten up their days in the game may be numbered.

Ohhh I wanna post about specific events and team actions...but will hold off until Cathy has seen the show.

Wednesday night at 9:00PM...thanks. So that is my Thursday morning..9:00AM. Ok...will hold off posting any serious events until then each week.

Allison & Donnie were the last team to arrive at the pit stop and were eliminated from the race in the second episode. Rats!! I thought they were going to win, and I so wanted to watch them fight with each other every week all across the Globe. Ohh well.

I noticed in the preview for the upcoming episode that they will travel here to Montreal. I recognized the airport logos. Ohhh..can't wait for them to run past me on the street somewhere. LOL.

Well, I really didn't see this coming. The team of Charla & Mirna have been doing very well in the first two episodes. Charla is the first "Little Person"  aka midget to compete in the show, and I gotta tell ya. She says some of the dumbest things, and therefore funniest things on the show. Ohhh they are great. I just hope their general lack of any sense of direction will not catch up with them soon.
