Miracle

Well, it won't play well in SE Asia and the Pacific, but, I really enjoyed the movie Miracle; the story of the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team.  For me, it really captured the feel of events of that time and brought up the groundswell of excitement that was generated by the team.  I wish that there was a little more of the hockey games shown in the movie, especially the Czech game, but on the whole, it was a good movie to see and I highly recommend it.

The true story of coach Herb Brooks (Russell), who in 1980 had the distinction of having been the last player cut from the U.S. hockey team the last time the team won the Gold at the Olympics (in 1960).

Brooks got his chance at being part of a medal-winning team, however, when he led the U.S. hockey team to victory over the Soviets (who had won the medal the last four times: 1976, 1972, 1968, and 1964 since that 1960 U.S. win) at the 1980 Winter Olympics at Lake Placid despite overwhelming odds.

For a country still entangled in a decades-long "Cold War" with the U.S.S.R., the sports victory was seen as patriotic and symbolic of "our side" beating "their side."

Starring: Kurt Russell, Eddie Cahill, Patricia Clarkson, Noah Emmerich, Patrick O'Brien Demsey

GREATEST SPORTS MOVIE EVER!!! I couldn't believe what I was watching. I was 9 when it happen and don't realize how important it was for the USA to win that game. I also didn't know how good USSR was untill I saw the movie. If you go to see 1 movie this year, this is the one.
