The Daily Scripture Reading
« on: Aug 2nd, 2004, 8:42pm »

Allow me to post the Gospel reading here daily.  Other religions are allowed to post their daily readings too....in this way, we will get acquainted of what's really inside the Bible... i'll be  posting guide questions at the bottom of every Gospel reading for reflection guide.  I'll invite everyone to share if ever anyone have some answers to the guide question.  We call this "sharing" and we will know how good God is, what He made us like, what blessings he'd been bestowing us, the unconditional love He always partake on us, and a lot more.

We like to sow love here and we want to know the kind of love that God sowed to us.  We don't debate here.  Anyone is welcome to read and share.

August 3, 2004 .....Matthew 14:22-36

Then he made the disciples get into the boat and precede him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds.  After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.  When it was evening he was there alone.  Meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore, was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it.  During the fourth watch of the night he came toward them, walking on the sea.  When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terified.  "It is a ghost."  they said, and they cried out in fear.  At once (Jesus) spoke to them, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid."  Peter said to him in reply, "Lord if it is you, command me to come to you on the water."  He said "Come."  Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.  But when he saw how (strong) the wind was he became frightened; and, beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!"  Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him and said to him, "O you of little faith", why did u doubt?"  AFter they got into the boat, the wind died down.  Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying, "Truly, you are the Son of God."  After making the crossing , they came to land at Gennesaret.  When the men of that place recognized him, they sent word to all the surrounding country.  People brought to him all those who were sick and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak, and as many as touched it were healed.

i always believe that waking up every morning is the daily miracle i received in my life daily.  I always thank God everytime i woke up in the morning  and i never forget to thank God too before i fall into sleep.  But inspite of that, i know when storm comes, my faith wont be less far of that of Peter.    I'm easily shaken of little trials that will come my way, but then i prayed for more strenght and open mind and heart to deal with the situation. He is my source of strenght.  As they say that when God gave us trial..it's His way of kissing us.  It's scary when God kisses us right?  But life is full of trials or life is all about trials.

I do believe in miracles, and also when you said (gracia) that life is full of trials. Everyday we must struggle to make it a better day than it was yesterday. Everything happens for a reason.

Sometimes we might not get what we really want in life and blame GOD for not having it. Well, God knows best, sometimes the things that we really, really want may not be the right thing for us, thats why God did not bother to give it.

As for the faith of Peter, most of us are like that. I have faith, I just dont know how strong it is.

Wow! Gracie! You are certainly doing God's  work by bringing Him to places we spend so much time on. This is great. I hope you keep it up. Just a suggestion though. I can barely see the guide question cos of its white colored font. Can you darken it next time?

Yes, I believe that God can work miracles in our lives. I stand witness to all that He has done for me and my family.

August 4, 2004       Mathew 15:21-28

Then Jesus went from the place and withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.  And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, "Have pity on me, Lord, son of David!  My daughter is tormented by a demon."  But he did not say a word in answer to her.  His disciples came and asked him, "Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us."  He said in reply, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."  But the woman came and did him homage, saying, "Lord, help me."  He said in reply, "It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs."  She said, "Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters."  Then Jesus said to her in reply, "O woman great is your faith!  Let it be done for you as you wish."  And her daughter was healed from that hour.

Do you choose the people who are kind to? Do you avoid those people who are different from you?

I'm kind to those who are kind to me...that's the general rule.  I'm not avoiding people who are different to me. I believe the uniqueness of God's creation.  But there are times that i feel scared by just looking at the person.

As a mother though, my son will get easily influence from the rudeness of his playmates,  so i started to be strict on him and if possible have him stay away from his playmates while we're not around.  He can be with them if i'm there or his father is there  to supervise them playing, in that way they'll behave rightly.

I usually don't care much of other people. I don't mind other people business since I do not want others to mind my own.

I don't avoid those people who are different from me, infact its a  great challenge to have frends who are far different . It happens in college life, HS and mostly at your working place. It is just the matter on respecting other people opinions and beliefs.

But i agree in general, people are most likely to be frends on those kind to him/her in return.

Im  actually  embarassed  to say this but I could be very discriminating when it comes to people. Its  not because I am filled  with disdain but because  I just dont want to be uncomfortable.  I avoid people who are different and not-so-different from me because I abhor small talk. I don't want to be caught in a conversation thats  leading nowhere and of course, I can't stand uncomfortable silence. I dont want to be rude, so the best thing for me to do is avoid the situation. Its a different matter altogether when I'm in the hospital though. I become a different person there. It's like I'm Dr. Jekyll and  Ms. Go-Hide.

Auguat 5, 2004     Matthew 16:13-23

When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"  They replied,  " Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."  He said to them, "But who do you say I am?"  Simon Peter said in reply, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God."  Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah.  for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.   And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.  I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven.  Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."  Then he strictly ordered his disciples to tell no one that he was the Messiah.  From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer greatly from the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised.  Then Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, "God forbid, Lord!  No such thing shall ever happen to you."  He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan!  You are an obstacle to me.  You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do."

Guide question:

Was there a time in your life when you felt you had died emotionally?  How did God bring you back to life?
