Is religion good or bad?
Do you we really need one to survive?
Well I'm a Catholic, eventhough I subcribed to the faith of catholic doctrine and beliefs, I myself have reservation about religion and its relevance to our life.
We all know that aside from the GOOD things that people do in the name of religion also a lot of WRONG things are also being committed on the same pretext.
War and destruction because of or inspite of religion. We also see disunity and hypocrisy reigning side by side with religion.
To further elaborate the issue, Is religion a must for our existence? And for what reason?

For me religion is good. I'm a Roman Catholic and i believe on the existence of God in me. The war of religion exist because of pride and if one believes in God and has faith in Him, pride is nowhere to be found or if there is, it will not come to a point to making war. I do believe that God lives in each one of us, whether we like it or not, and He is just there waiting for our call, regardless of which religion we are in. For me its very important, because i'm so dependent on Him and that I do believe that I'm a mess without HIm. I'm a sinner yes, but that wont hinder me to come to God. Believing in HIm doesnt mean u become perfect, human as we are, we often commit mistakes and God knows that, that is why He did not come for the righteous but for the sinners.

Religion can be either good or bad. It depends on what you are using it for. If you use it to make your life more complete and for true happiness, understanding, and content its a good thing. But if you use it to control and limit yourself or others in the pursuit of happiness then I would say it isnt so great. Religion and politics/government/business dont work. Anyone who would consider killing themselves and others as a holy thing is a certified nutcase. Calling war holy is the most silly thing I have ever heard of. I dont care what kinda GOD you worship. If its a real GOD he dont want you to hate and kill. All war does is make life miserable. All these fatnatics need to realize that they live in a world that was not created just for them. Thats why there is all this trouble in the world today. Religion should be not forgoten but seperate from politics/government/business. To me religion is personal. Its between myself and GOD. That dont mean that I dont worship GOD all alone. Worshiping with others is a good thing. It brings people together. Even here in America we have some of the biggest religious hypocrites. Im a southern Baptists. Southern Baptists believe dancing and drinking is a sin. Well screw that. Im not sure how they came up with that. One of my old gf had a father who was a preahcer and I asked him if its a sin how come they did it in the bible? He told me that it was done in the bible to celebrate GOD's love for us and his grace. I didnt buy it then and I dont buy it now. I dont see how it could be that way. It cant be good on one day and then bad on another day. If its good its good. If its bad its bad. It depends on how you do it. If you put dancing and drinking as more important than the GOD ALLMIGHTY, then its bad. But if you just do it to have some fun everyonce in a while in order to make this long bumpy road a little more pleasureable then whats the harm? If you do it in a responsible manner then I dont think its a sin.

Some religions may be bad, but i know i speak for a fact when I say that Christianity is not and never was a bad religion. Its not the religion but the people who use religion to further their fanatical views on their religion that give religion a bad name.

HI JOEL, Im also a Baptist but i think not only this religion that believes drinking and dancing are sins.I think you answered and even have explained your own question.If the acts of drinking and dancing are done in a wrong way or done with a bad purpose ofcourse it's a sin.We read drinking was also done in the Bible but in an apropriate manner so that means that when we do,it should be like that way...it shouldnt cuases us to sin.(Uh oh dont look at me like that...ha ha! i know i still sometimes get drunk..ha ha..just explaining  ) Dancing also becomes a sin when it is done in a dirty way.For example, when i was still a student in Manila, i had a friend and also a classmate from Cavite that invited me to attend her debut celebration and they lived near their plaza.I asked her what's the party there because i saw people like having party with a very loud music.She said they're dancing while they raise funds and i asked how and she explained that the girls were being paid everytime a man makes a dance with the girl he wants to dance with.I was speachless especially when i heard about how much for every dance and she even said they would stay there 'til dawn waiting for men to dance and pay for them  . I believe this is one explaination when dancing becomes sin.Dancing in a dirty way for money is a sin.So with other things, anything could be a sin if done improperly.

Religion is neutral. It just depends on who is in control of it that counts. If we have a religion that is uncooperative to the state then this spells disaster.

First of all,what's the purpose of religion?
As for my take on religion, i see it solely as a God given guide to how life should be lived. Christianity possesses a very adequate moral code, a code which many of our societies are based upon to this day. Control has nothing to do with it. I willingly submit to God because that is my choice, i want to(many things i still have to surrender,though). I could just as soon elect otherwise.
Religion isn't necessarily an evil thing. Religion in the wrong hands and minds can be dangerous, like in the example given about the emperor. When i see the phrase "holy-war", i instantly look to the instigators of the war and question their motives behind such destruction (be it money, power, conquest, glory).Religion builds a community, provides answers for the unknown, and gives a moral code. Sadly, too many use it as a crutch/scapegoat.

Religion is good for me. Because every religion has its own doctrines or teachings. I have to believe in something good so I can use it to guide me in my everyday existence. I think heaven or hell too is here on earth. If you live in peace and in constant communication with God, that is heaven for me. If you see the people you care about in good health and free of worries, that is heaven. If you do good deeds and people shows their appreciation by loving you more and giving you more respects, that is heaven. But if you live your life in sins and you live constantly in fear and worries, then that's hell for me.
