Over view of Church History 3: Christ came to the earth during a time known as the Pax Roma Which were a period of two hundred years of Peace held under Roman authority. So down the winding streets of the mighty empire spread the Gospel like a forest fire touching each and every area of the empire. One of the Greatest orators of Christ was the Apostle Paul. A Jew like Christ but a Roman Citizen and educated as a Chief Pharasee as well as Classically educated giving him easy movement among the Jews, Greeks and Romans. Paul and the other Apostle Affirmed over and over again that The God of the Old Testament is the God of the New covenant. That the Creator the God of Abraham and of Issac is God the Father and the father to Christ. ( Remember father is not father in biological or idealogical but in Rolls). Both eternally in there being from eternity past to eternity future 300 years prior to Christ there was Alexander the Greek and from his empire the Helenistic style of Greek life had begun one culture with a coney greek being developed or Common Greek which most of the New Testament was written in Christiany came into contact with Greek Ideals and phylosophy. Acts 17:22-36 is a biblical record of Paul and his talks to the Greeks In the Greek Town of Chorinth is where Christians were first known as Christians it was a name started as a sort of attempt to insult prior to this Christians called themselves people of the way. A noted Christian Bishop of Greece named Turtellian asked "What does Athens have to do with Jerusalem" which is a tention that flows on til today what does society have to do with God. A battle of Faith and reason; Theology and Philosphy had begun and still follow til today. When Christianity hit Rome as it's world wide missionary goal was preceived to be a treat by Rome and to Caeser. For Caesar was considered to be devine and religious Pluralism was considered to be fashionable and Christanity held to the truth of Just One God. Had Christians been willing to place incents upon the alter for the Imperal Diety as well as worship Christ they may not have been precieved as a treat. However when the Emperor Domecian declared himself to be both Lord and God The followers of Christ would not call Domecian (Curious) Lord and God. The followers of Christ declared that Christ is Curious not Caesar. So then the blood of the Martyrs began to flow in Rome and became the Seeds of the Church. Under two previous Emperors Decius and Diaclition the Christians had been repressed thier churches and scriptures burn cause of their refusal to sacrafice to the emperor. Instead of snuffing out the faith it caused it to spread. Many Christians made to face torture and death with absolute peace about their devotion to Christ caused spectators to turn to Christ to find what gave these people this Strength and resolute that Christ is Lord. Polegius the Elder wrote a Letter to the Emperor Trageon, no matter how cruel the torture or severe the punishment, these Christians will not relent on their stand that Christ is Lord. ( Some of these Martyrs were very much alive during Christ's earthly walk...Would they suffer so for a made up story). The bravery of the Martyrs even developed in to a romantic style of literature including Perpetua and her servant girl Felicta who were put to death in the arena in 202 ad in Carthage. Paul and Peter were both excuted in Rome under the direction of Caesar Paul Beheaded and Peter Crucified upside down, around 65 AD. Christianity wasn't allowed to prosper in Rome without Persecution until 313 AD. However many writings for the first 300 years of the Christian church marvel at the devotion of the followers of Christ such as by the Ruler of Jullian the Apostate. You can also find out more about the Martyrs from the box Fox book of Martyrs. More History to come
