Spell checker & Automatic save function

Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't it be nice to have an automatic save (draft) function here? You wouldn't have to re-write everything from scratch, imagine never having to lose your work. It's frustrating when you have to start over again, you lose interest. Spell checker. Need I say more?

Those are actually good ideas. The problem is however that this forum software uses Perl. With Perl, you don't get the "sessions management" features like you do with a PHP based forum software. At the time I chose YaBB, it was the best situation for me at the time. PHP though does have its own problems though especially with security. I don't know if any forum software has a spell checker that works on the fly however. I can advise though, that if you are worried about losing your text or want to spellcheck it, try using a text editor like NoteTab or one that has a built in spellchecker. Word or OpenOffice would do the trick as well. Then, you just cut and paste into a posting box when you are ready. Just remember that font information won't translate from the editor to the posting box.

Are we ever going to have a 'Back' button function here? It really is frustration when you're typing away then out of nowhere you accidetally hit a key or something and everything is gone? And I'm not talking about forgetting to put a subject or whatever.... Is that not possible? Hitting the 'back' button and still have your work? I may be beating a dead horse here, but I still want to know why it's not possible?

OK, I just read your response again..... it has something to do with "Sessions management". Umm surely with technology these days, there is a way to work around it? Just wishful thinking.

I can't see any other thing to complain about the forum, except this thing, losing what we typed once we didn't click the right button. The Administrator explained already the software used in the forum that it doesn't provide the feature that may solve the problem. So, maybe it's just a matter of our little favor, in order to avoid the problem? And that, to always copy what we have typed before posting it, so that in case we'll lose it, we can simply paste it again and repost. Thanks.

Yes, I am sorry to say that there is no back button feature. Don't feel left out Cathy, because I have done the same thing before and lost a lot of stuff. Unfortunately, that problem of hitting the wrong key, going to another page, then going back to find everything gone will happen no matter what software you are using. That part has nothing to do with "sessions managment" but does have something to do with "forms". Forms are the spaces that web pages use to act as a container of text or information to be submitted or posted. The submitted information is then gathered by the website and saved. In the case of this forum, it is posted as text in the form of a "forum post". Unfortunately, until the form is submitted, your text will be lost if you exit a page. Sometimes, a browser will save some of it if it is not too long if you use your back button. A reply like this would not be saved however. I hope that helps you understand the problem a little better.
