Flowers (dried and framed)

I am not sure where to put this under.

Heck I don't even know where to start. Whether to explain my dilemma or ask the question. Let me try both. LOL.

Okay here's the thing. I want a fresh bouquet of flowers (which is almost dried up now) to be put on a frame. Should I pressed it now? And arranged it how I want it to look in the frame? The leaves have all curled up now  Sad . Would putting oil or any kind of lubricant not ruin it? Heck, I don't know the first thing about this whole thing. It's like learning to cook for the first time, only to end up opening a can of red beans. Ha! (But that's another story). I digress.

I have removed the flowers from the vase and letting nature takes its course. But I want to have it framed. Is it possible to keep the color as close to how it was before? Without the aid of a food coloring or the like? Or do they put coloring on it before it gets framed? I don't trusts Indians to do it for me. They stink! LOL.  Grin jk.

Inexperienced as I am, I'd rather do it and just have someone frame it. I'm not entirely hopeless, neither am I completely stupid. So, armed with half-painted nails and a scatter-brain, I have surrendered everything to Google. In vain. I have not found a single website that seems to understand my predicament.

So now here I am, at your mercy.  Cry

Your ideas and suggestions would be soooo much appreciated. Help out a damsel in distress.  Grin

P.S: I swear to be nice and extremely polite. I'll keep the mood swings in check.  Grin

Well Cathy I think you don't think much lol. Why dont u buy some plastic flowers similar to those flowers and keep it in a vase? That's the reason I recomend everyone to send plastic flowers for Valentines coz it can be washed or cleaned or can be kept for ages, even your kids can see it (genaration to generation) plus its cheaper. This is a good egsample for all spending on flowers  Grin

As usual, RJ....your mouth is running away again. Cathy want's the fresh flowers she have right now. She DOESN'T want the plastic ones, ok?
I'm sorry I can't be of help to u, Cathy. I don't know a thing about preseving flowers. When I get fresh flowers, I simply put them in a vase till they dried out then I throw them away. Grin Let me ask me see if I can ask anyone around.

Cathy, I have an aunt who's very fond of doing those things, sure look lovely.  I think bunch of dried flowers are nice as is, I have some in my house (country theme) which I dried myself.  The best way to do is to tie the stems all together and hang the bunch upside down until it's completely dry.  I just make use of fancy ribbons to cover the stems and hang them around in my house, like under the stairs, lanai....In time though, the colors do fade and they become dull.

But anyway, I'll ask my aunt for the procedure.  I haven't tried framing but I know she presses the flowers right after cutting them and make use of preservatives like silica gel and glycerin solutions.  You just reminded me of a nice thing to do....

Hi Justine! Thanks for replying. Sure sounds like a whole lot of work. LOL. I just now pressed the flowers but I'm afraid it's too late. The leaves have all curled up now and cracks when I try to straightened them up Sad  Vaseline petroleum jelly didn't help either. And it looks so dull, I almost feel sorry for them (flowers). They look so lovely before Sad  I have neglected them Sad

I'll summon my little artistic inclinations and see if I can come up with something. Dried and dull as it is, I am still going to have it framed.

Hanging it upside down sounds like a good idea .. but it's going to accumulate dusts over the years... I want to hold on to my flowers for as long as is possible. I am being stubborn for not wanting to trust any one to handle it. They just don't realise how special it is. And Indians could be annoyingly stupid and careless sometimes and I don't want to risk it. Hell, if I might try to frame it myself. But I can imagine it's a lot of work. I'm just about given up. Ooooo, the labor of love. This ain't fun at all. lol.

Thanks all for the advice/suggestions. I'll still keep an eye on this thread.. wouldn't hurt to have as many options as possible.

Thanks so much guys.  Kiss
