hmmm....thats pretty long.

This issue is not new. I been hearing the Philippines debt since I was in gradeschool.

I even heard before that their going to put the Philippines in bidding, and Japan are very much interested to buy the Philippines. (dunno if this is true but this has been a debate between me and friend since she's the one informed me about this issue).

About trusting the government, I myself don't trust the current administration. The senate is just a big joke. Bong Revilla, Lito Lapid? Need I say more? gosh...I'm starting to have a bad day thinking all the bullshit thats happening in the PI senate.

My thoughts about the Population size, regarding the government proposal in limiting the size of the family; what they have advocated so far is to propose that only 2 children will be allowed for tax deductions instead of the present 4 and that the health fees for delivery of infants beyond 2 deliveries will no longer be shouldered by government hospitals even if delivered there.

Well, they have to make exemptions for 2nd deliveries involving twins, triplets, etc... Grin

I'll be back for more....

cuz Tina, your question is can we survive?

Yes, we are surviving, you can say that we're in a deep debt or we can say the Philippines is a third world country but people here are all eating as many times as possible.

I hope that government- reengineering will take place sooner or later. The government could save between P6 to P7 billion a year from the reengineering program if this procedure will be completed within the year.

Early retirement program is a good strategy to lessen our  government expenditure. Good thing about it is that government employees are not forced to retire early. It's an option.

However, teachers are not included in the program as the bureaucracy is still hiring teachers to fill in the backlog.

Re-engineering should start with agencies with obvious duplication of functions with other agencies and move on from there but  it should not only be limited on abolishing certain agencies, ofcourse. It should be a wholistic approach.

Lemme hear your view cuz Grin

maybe we can survive and maybe not...not much to do at the moment but probably trust who's in there.  Come what may, it's too stressful to think on how we can pay it, it's an impasse.

33 trillion in debt wow thats a lotta cash. Thats a tuff one to get out of. I know if i was 33 trillion dollars in debt i would declare bankruptcy and start over and screw whoever I owed money to. Hell americans do it all the time. Famous ones also Wayne Newton, Burt Reynolds, Red Fox and thousands of others and so have large corporations. As far as I know they never went to jail for it, but I bet thier credit rating sucks.  If people and corporations can do it y cant countries do it?

well im sure PI will work its way out of it somehow, besides I dont think it ever really gets paid off. If i remember from my econmics class when a country is in debt it means its Gross National Product is low. When you bring more consumer goods in(importing) than u are sending goods out(exporting) and u keep doing it year after year soon you find yourself in debt. The United States had a trade deficit in the late 70s and early 80s. Those japanese were making all those efficient cars and america was still making the muscle cars that consumed a large amount of gasoline. The unemployment rate was high all of these things factor in to debt. Yet u still see the president and all of his fancy limos driving around.

Corruption will not going to be involved once the re-engineering took place.  It's a good thing since bureaucratic red tape will be lessened.

Simplication of systems and processes so that it can be more responsive must be the theme. The resulting savings would then be emphasized as a result of improved efficiency and productivity.

I have met many poor people and as I can see it, they still managed to eat more times three times a day. And they all have decent job as well.

They may not be consider as middle class nor rich ones and lack of opportunity to enjoy or experience what other people are enjoying right now but those people are doing their best to make their lives better.

Those people that don't know where or how to get their food, theres nothing to blame but themselves.

I cannot use the word dying to describe our country and I will not be pessimitic about our nation.

But I have to agree, Discipline is the key together with nationalism.

Sometimes I even think that Martial Law would be the best solution for all of these.

I did not say that re-engineering will solve everything but it is a good start. Discipline should start in government employees to justify their existence.

hahahaha....We all got bills to pay.  We all need to be immune to the word upset... Grin

I really wish that Magsaysay never met that tragedy maybe Philippines  would have been a better place.

I may hate the current administration (Gloria's government)but by God, I swear... I love the Philippines.

God Bless the Philippines!!!

I'm with you on that Mymy,... we may be struggling now, but I sure still love the Phillipines. I may visit, or who nows, maybe stay a while in another country, but I can surely say to myself that I'll always come back here, no matter what happens. I know it's cliche' but as they say, "There's no place like home..."  And Tina, I sympathize with you. You see, since my Mom's not around, I do the budgeting and it's really really hard.  AngryEverything seems to costs too much these days. Before, say 6 months ago, with 3 thousand pesos as your grocery budget, it covers almost everything already. From toothpaste, to shampoo, conditioner, tissue paper, mouthwash, disinfectants, air freshener, laundry powder, canned goods, milk, cereals, fabric softener etc.etc. and it can lasts for a whole month already. But now, 3 thousand pesos worth of groceries can barely lasts a month! I even cut down some things that I feel are not that important anymore, like before I can still buy 2 or 3 different types of sandwhich spread, and 2 or 3 types of jams, now I just buy 1 each. I used to buy Magnolia Gold Butter, but I switched to Dairy Creme now, because it's cheaper. Sometimes when it's sunny, I prefer not to use fabric softener anymore, I only use it on rainy days to keep clothes smelling nice. But there are some grocery items that you just can't compromise just because other brands are cheaper. Say Colgate toothpaste, you can try buying cheaper substitutes but when you're used to using it for years, it's just not the same. It's like, you never feel clean enough after brushing using a different brand. Hotdogs too,.... Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs if I may say, I think is the best hotdog ever. (maybe just here in p.i. I dunno with some countries.) but it's the best tasting hotdog for me so to speak, but the thing is it's like what, from 130/per kilo to 165 already. I tried Swift Hotdogs for it's way way cheaper, it's like just 110/kilo but guess what happened? My brothers did not like them. They didn't even touch it! And honestly, I don't either, so it just goes to waste. So I returned buying Purefoods again.... Ooppps,,.... sorry, I know I'm way out of the topic, but you see, my point is that, I think the Philippines is really really into deep trouble already. Everyone seems to be affected by this crisis. Rich or poor. You can see it on t.v., people complaining, and complaining and complaining.... bills, bills, bills,...telephone, water, cable, I even dread getting electric bills anymore.....I even instructed my brothers not to use ac that much but sometimes, it can get really really hot you have no choice but to use it. Gasoline keeps on costing too much, sometimes, you just want to take the bus or the jeepney already.  Angry
Mymy, the re-engineering thing sounds good to me. I just wonder if it'll ever be implemented. As you've told me, it should've been implemented years before. Can it be that GMA's paying her debts from the previous election that's why we're in such a crisis now? I heard that she even used the Philhealth's budget for her campaign. And what about those t.v. ads? Is it true?

One of the reasons why I hate the current administration was the event happened not long time ago.

I may not be infavor of the war happening in IRAQ but Gloria Arroyo put the Philippines into big embarrasment.

who would honor our treaties and trade agreements now that everybody knows what we don't have what it takes to honor our own word?

If Gloria haven't sent the Philippine troops there in the first place she could have averted this international embarassment!

Philippines lost its CREDIBILITY. And by this, investors are now having doubts whether to invest here or not.
