Well, I usually do the 15% and sometimes 20 % for good service. During horse racing season, is it proper to leave a good tip on a horse race instead?

I usually like to do more than 15% because they do work their butt off. But if the service is very poor I will tip less. Only twice this happened to me. Otherwise I do it normally. Sometimes they'll remember and when I go back again, they take something off the check like a coke or dessert.

I am with Tina on this one. I find that good-excellent service should be rewarded. I like to tip based on the level of service, and there have been several times when I tipped very generously. Conversly, there have been times when I didn't leave any tip and explained to the manager just how bad the service was and that would be reflected with a lack of tip. I find that I tip cab drivers the lowest, most are rude, and if your not watching, most sense the visitor in the back seat isn't familiar with the surroundings, and take side trips. The worst example of this was in Vegas, but the cab driver didn't know I was just there the week before, and knew about the scam. He didn't get a tip. Most people understand that level of service is directly related with the tip, and alot of servers & waitresses do a fine job.
