in may the sopranos will be back on HBO for season 5, about time, i am going through withdrawal, i seen every episode at least 3 times already, how many others out there are waiting patiently to see tony in action again?

my favorite episode personally was episode 26 "funhouse" where tony comes to the realisation that he has to kill his buddy "big pussy" and suffers through food poisoning, with lots of weird and crazy dreams, like who but the writer of the sopranos, would take a main character, have him with his friends, talking about they had 6 months to live, and their friends saying how impressed they were that he wanted to light himself on fire with gasoline and doing it in the dream, that was twisted. and they couldnt give tony 20 mill for a year? that is almost 13 hours of video for one season, i think gandofini deserved the 20.. anyone else have a fave episode?

Cap, I got the first 4 seasons on dvd. Im like u it seems like ive been waiting forever.  Im gonna have to watch season 4 again just to remember what had happened. I think the last episode Carmela was finally feed up with Tonys ways and thinking of a divorce and making him leave the house. Carmela was also stealing cash out of Tonys stash hidden out by the pool. Any way my favorite episode is episode 11 of the 3rd season called Pine Barrens. It was a real funny episode. Chris and Pauli Walnuts get lost in the forest somewhere outside of New Jersy while trying to kill the russian mob guy. They never found his body. I wonder if that mistake will come up in Season 5.

yeah pine barrens was a good episode too, so was # 40 (for all depts public and private) chris is deffinatly a favorite character for me, pauly was good too, and together they make a hell of a team. i have seen the whole series a few times, and could watch em all again, i think it is the best cable series ever made, i think that gandofini was worth the 20 mill a year myself, think about tom cruise doing a 2 hour show he gets that, and then you got gandolfini, he has to be in 13 hours of a series for the same amount, really aint fair. i think the new season starting in march will definatly be a turning point, now that he has gotten rid of "whitecaps" and carmella is ragging. should be a great season, but the one thing about it that bothers me, less and less killing each series..

Hey u remember when chris was just made a boss and poulie and i think it was furio came over to chris apartment to hastle him for money. They started to look through everyting for some money. And Paulie was looking through Adriana panties and chris saw him smelling  her underwear. LOL man that was funny. My favorite character has to be Paulie Walnuts. He is a whiner at times, but he does some funny stuff.

Well seen the first 3 episodes for season 5. Kinda disapointed with the first 2. 3rd one was good. I wonder what Tony will do now that his Anthony is living with him. Carmela is happy to get him out of her hair. He is driving her crazy. Carmela is so worried that her son Anthony will follow in her husbands footsteps.  Now that the Boss in NYC is dead there is a power struggle. Me thinks a war is fixing to brew.  Im kinda disapointed in Steve Buscemi's character called Tony Blundetto. Tony Blundetto is new this season. He just got out of prison and he is Tony Sopranos cousin and Tony loves him very much. But this character doesnt want to get back in the mob. He wants to stay away and start a new life as a massage therapist lol. He is giving all the mob dudes massages and this pisses Tony off. lol Well if anyone else watches this. Post some of your opinions and let me know your favorite characters.  Smiley

The Sopranos is the best show on TV. Period!! The show operates on so many different levels. The only other show that is on the same level IMHO is The Simpsons, in terms of hidden meanings and references.

I took way too many film courses in University, and there are alot of stylistic points that throw a different perspective with each new episode.

For instance just take the last episode (Unidentified Black Males #61). Here are three quick things that may or may not go unnoticed by the casual viewer.

The use of Baseball throughtout the episode as a metaphor for Homosexuality. While there was blatant homosexual activity in this episode, there was also the ever-present theme of baseball to hint at the activity. All these guys with bats and balls. it is a clear example of the subtule undertones of complexity within each episode.

The second was the air conditioner that was not working properly in Meadow's appartment in NYC. The air conditioner was slowly on it's last legs, using up it's last bit of energy and very close to the end of it's life. That mirrors the declining relationship of Meadow and her BF Fin Detrolio. At the apex of the breakdown in their relationship, the air conditioner was put out of it's misery with a little help from Fin, marking a low point in the relationship.

The last one is a simple good vs. evil camera play. Ever notice that when Tony is in Dr. Melfies office they always try to shoot the scene with the light shining in from a window behind Melfi, and they always shoot Tony with the darker backdrop of the wood planelling. That is a classic good vs evil camera angle. White=good and Black or dark=evil. Watch next time they are together, you'll notice it. Now you might say that's just coincidence, believe me nothing is ever done without thinking about it. Nothing. Tony even had on black clothes and Dr. Melfi was wearing white to further accent the difference.

Well enough about the inner workings of the show. Dang, my education did come in handy for something. Anyway, I will post more later.

To respond to earlier comments that the show has "gone downhill", I agree. While The Sopranos is still the best show around, they do tend to get into too many sub-plots and not enough time spent on the Mob part of the show. I sent an email to HBO after the third episode about this problem. I told them that I waited how many months for this stuff?? I told them exactly what alot of other people were thinking about the lack of blood n muscle in the show.

While I do still find the show very good, it just hasn't lived up to the image it created in the first season where there was a major event in almost every show. Ahhh how I long for those days again. I can always go back with the help of DVD's.

Let's see, my favorite episode was Season 3's # 32 "University". I just loved the feel of that show, how the opening music and scene intertwined perfectly with the story, bending your mind, molding your senses and then destroying any notions this one was gonna be anything ordinary.

I also really like #37 "Pine Barrens" another great one from Season 3. The story starts off slow and plodding, then takes such unexpected and unusal twists and turns that come from no where to weave such a masterpiece that I love to watch over and over again. This one's not over folks. I am sure he will "crawl out from under a rock" soon. I can't wait.

While I would think it goes without saying that I love Season 1 the most. Very cool stuff.

I also liked the fifth episode of Season 5, #57 "Irregular Around the Margins". That one scene with Tony and Christopher, when Tony has a gun to Chris's head on the abandoned road. Tony says to him, "either you tell me now that you can take it into your heart that I never did this sh*t.......or we've come as far as we can together". I almost fell off the sofa when I watched that scene. VERY powerfull stuff. Amazing intensity. It gave me chills. Dang.

Well, sorry if you haven't seen these episodes yet, but I just thought I would throw some of what I thought about the show out there.    Cheesy

I also wanted to comment on some of the great looking women on the show.

I think that Annabella Sciorra who played "Gloria Trillo" was the hottest thing going. She is sooo perfect. Dang!! I also think that Tony's newest GF is very hot too. Her name on the show is "Valentina La Paz". Not sure what her real name is...but she can sell me a painting any time!! Tony has good taste, and anyone who thinks he didn't pick them himself is out to lunch. I heard somewhere that he likes to take polaroids of all the chicks asses that he meets. I would like to get a look at those photo albums.

I also think that Drea De Matteo who plays "Adriana La Cerva" is pretty hot as well. I also find that Jamie-Lynn Discala who plays "Meadow Soprano" can look hot or just ok in some episodes. Maybe that's just me thou. LOL.

I also thought the young latin chick in the most recent episode who is the daughter of the construction boss is soooo hot!! I only know her as "Patricia" on the show. With her long dark hair, and her long legs...ohhhh weee!!  Shocked

Just a few other comments on different characters.

Did anyone notice that Tony Soprano's new driver is none other that Tony Siragusa(SP)?? He was a lineman for the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL a few yrs ago. He hasn't really had any lines in the show, but he first appeared when Tony and Christopher had there problem in episode #57.

I also think that the addition of Steve Buscemi who plays "Tony Blundetto" in the show, was going to be a good thing. Now I am not so sure. His character started really slow, and quite frankly I thought the character of "Feetch La Mana" was a stronger addition. Maybe I just long for more action in the show, so any more sub-plots with marginal violence just doesn't go over well with me.

I am waiting for the next episode #62 "Cold Cuts" this Sunday and longing for a harder edge. Ohh well, whatever happens I will still watch, I am forever hooked.
