(08/06/2006) Forum Software Changes

I have added two more features to 1freeworld Groups. The first is the Calendar. All members can add information to the Calendar and that anything added to the Calendar is subject to the same rules as a posting. You will notice that birthdays are showing up already because the Calendar is pulling some info from your profile. The Calendar also works with all the smilies. To figure out how it all works, there is a Help file link when you view the Calendar. Also added is a RSS News feed. The RSS feed link is located on the Main Menu. The feed will show the Group, Topic, Author and a little of the actual post. This feature will allow you to keep up with the forum while you are not on the site. You can view the raw feed or choose to copy the link to the feed into your favorite RSS News reader. Many RSS News readers are available that can be incorporated into your browswer (The Wizz RSS reader extension in Firefox is great), a standalone program or in a scrolling ticker (I use a KDE scrolling ticker as part of my Linux desktop). I also notice that the Member Map is not working quite right and I will be repairing it soon. I will also be upgrading the forum software to version 1.4 as soon as I can, but that will be a big job. I hope you enjoy these new features!

Great additional features, Bopbop! The calendar is actually cool. Now I hope my birthday won't be missed. LOL joke . The RSS feed is cool, too. I just wish we could choose the period of time [like how long I haven't been in the site] and view all the posts we missed to read. Also, I wish I could edit the General Layout. Hihihi. Joking , Mike.

| I agree Krissy...and also would like to add..how to make the members become active again? i guess by informing them through their emails right? is there any other way to remind them that Freeworld is still working?? like Sointowin...the other night he was asking about the site if its still working eh..So i guess it would be great if all the members are updated too right?? Thats all and....cool calendar ree...but RSS is not working on my part eh wonder why keep it up Reebopy!!

Let me know what software you are using for the RSS and I can help you. As for a history of posts through RSS, it would eventually become a massive file. Maybe there is an RSS reader that archives for you however, Kris. As for forum members, all we can do is get the word out. I don't know why people post, leave and don't come back. I don't want to stir up trouble with my provider by having the forum mail out reminders to all the members.
