Title: novarg virus
Post by ReeBop on Jan 28th, 2004, 10:13pm
Well, I did my first removal of the novarg virus.  It wasn't too bad to take care of.  I downloaded the symantec repair tool, and diabled the System Restore in Windows XP.  If you find a machine with it, get it off of a network connection right away and clean it.

Anyone run into it yet?

Hahahaha. Well, seems like MS agrees with you to a point.  Billy is offering a reward for the capture of the virus writer of the "B" variant of the virus.  The "A" variant was made to attack SCO.  The "B" variant was morphed into attacking MS sites in the same way.  They now say this is the most widespread virus yet.

Funny how my K-Mail isn't affected.  But, get those AV programs updated folks.  And, please, if you use Outlook or Outlook Express, make sure you turn off the automatic running of programs and scripts.  The client that I did the removal for had them turned on.  They didn't change it either, it did this by default on their Dell XP workstation.

There are many other fine e-mail programs available for windows.  The M2 client in Oprea has been well recieved.  I've also used programs called FoxMail and Atherea.  Don't forget Pegasus as well.  Most people only need an address book to go with their e-mail and most any program will work fine.
