Title: Fresh Operating Systems to Play With Post by ReeBop on Mar 10th, 2004, 3:41pm I just wanted to mention a couple of operating systems that get very little notice. The first being AROS (http://www.aros.org). This strives to be a working Amiga type of system that can be hosted on Linux or, more excitingly, on it's own. The big thing needed now is a working TCP/IP stack. Then, it's ready for prime time. The second being Syllable. This system is far along the development line, with a complete TCP/IP stack and now a IDE environment ported from BeOS. From what I read, the big hangup with this system was full support for the IDE bus. As I catch up on work at home, I'll devote some time and harddrive space to these and some other better known OS's such as BeOS and QNX. |
