Title: Moderator Controlled Chat Rooms Post by sointowin1963 on May 20th, 2004, 1:09am Please check only one. This is a poll to see if you like the way Yahoo chat is going or whether you feel there needs to be a change. Pal Talk has a moderated system with multi- view live web camz view for those who pay for the service. This chat system also have a way for the Moderators to control the Mic in an oderly way and to easily remove people for 24 hours if they cause trouble. |

Title: Re: Moderator Controlled Chat Rooms Post by mylane on May 20th, 2004, 1:14am Very nice topic, Soin ;D Though the idea is possible, but I think yahoo will going to have some hard time for this Moderated Chat Rooms to materialize. |

Title: Re: Moderator Controlled Chat Rooms Post by ReeBop on May 20th, 2004, 7:05am No, Yahoo moderated chatrooms would not work. Yahoo uses chat like a billboard to sell advertising space on their chat client. The reason why other chat clients have access is that so few people use them, it would cost them to constantly create ways to ban them. The day that Yahoo Chat becomes a drain on them, look for them to invoke a pay system or drop chat all together and just keep the IM service. In other chat client/server environments, moderation is done through "operators". ICB and IRC work this way. Yahoo chose an irc modded software called iChat ( the company looks to be gone now ) to run their chat service because it was web based. It was developed in-house by Yahoo at that point. They chose a scheme of "ignoring" users instead of the "kick/ban" format of standard IRC. If you ever have been through a channel takeover, kick/ban and netsplit war, you will know that can be a bad thing. [smiley=computer.gif] |

Title: Re: Moderator Controlled Chat Rooms Post by need4speed8dalejr on May 28th, 2004, 11:23pm What have you been drinking?? [smiley=drunk.gif] That just wouldn't work. Think of some of the jerks who come into the rooms now, just imagine if one of those Mentally Deficient Morons gets control of a room?? No one would be safe from them.[smiley=dead.gif] Yahoo just won't be able to tell who is a Regular/Senior Member and deserves the Moderator status in a room. You think the rooms are a mess now, wait and see what kindda post-nuclear carnage would be left after that program was put into effect. Yahoo is dumb, just not that dumb. |

Title: Re: Moderator Controlled Chat Rooms Post by sointowin1963 on Jun 13th, 2004, 11:05am Ok yall! I get the point. I do think however that Yahoo can keep tight controls over who is allowed to moderate rooms by taking individuals who apply for the Moderators of chat rooms thru backround checks or something like that , and rigorous applications process. Or maybe that is overstepping the first ammendment rights to free speech??? Who knows.! ??? |

Title: Re: Moderator Controlled Chat Rooms Post by need4speed8dalejr on Jun 13th, 2004, 9:06pm Again, I am gonna ask you, Background checks? Dude, this is cyber-space. A place where cyber criminals and hacking is common place. It would be ohh so easy for anyone to create a nice guy profile so that Yahoo thinks they might do a good job in the moderator position. Yahoo and tight controls, Hahahaha. Yahoo doesn't give a rats azz about anything but making money and making more money. Period! Have you ever tried to contact Yahoo?? Almost impossible. They care not about there users, just as long as your logged on and reading all those Bot messages from any number of mainframe Bot generating stations. As for your comment on the Free Speech aspect of your post, again we are talking about Yahoo here. If they did give out moderator positions in each room, then all the legal responsibility would lie with each individual moderator, but we all know that power does indeed go to one's head. And my Fro is hurtin' just thinking about it. [smiley=afro.gif] I can understand what your trying to say, that Yahoo would give out these positions to worthy and trusting people, and that everything would be ok. Maybe I am a little jaded, (OK, alot..LOL ;D) But I really think that a self-regulating system is much better. As it stands now, there is a pack mentality that keeps alot of people in line and if you act like an idiot in the room, most will Iggy you or with alot of people having a Booter Program they will Boot your azz outta the room. Problem solved. [smiley=evil3.gif] |
