Title: SPYWARE INFECTIONS-VIRTUAL MEMORY TOO LOW!! Post by Wicked_Witch on Jan 7th, 2006, 9:47am SPYWARE INFECTIONS. VIRTUAL MEMORY TOO LOW!!! I keep getting this warning from my computer everytime my son uses the computer. It keep saying also that I have a very low virtual memory. What does it mean? Is my computer really infected or it's just a trick of those anti-virus system so I will be force to buy their product? Actually I lag so bad now. I am always on freeze, too! But the funny thing is I only see it when my son logs on to his user's ID. If I log on to mine, I do not see the said warning? Is this serious or a hoax? What is the meaning of "virtual memory"? Also I keep getting flashes in my screen? Like someone is "shaking" my screen? Helpppppppp!! [smiley=bigcry.gif] |

Title: Re: SPYWARE INFECTIONS-VIRTUAL MEMORY TOO LOW!! Post by nOrKAy on Jan 7th, 2006, 1:14pm Withy, I am not sure , but this is all I know about what you are encountering. Virtual memory (also called a swap or page file) is space on the hard drive that windows uses as "fake" RAM when it needs to free up system RAM for other uses. It is very likely that your XP upgrade used most of your remaining hard drive space so it doesn't have enough room for its page file. Only thing you can do is un-install unneeded applications. Some spyware can be removed through the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Windows Control Panel, provided you know it is there and what its name. Some of it can be removed manually. Some of it is difficult to remove due to hidden files and registry keys. Currently, I am using spyware detection and removal tool called Ad-ware. You can download it at no charge from their web site at: http://www.lavasoft.de. Download and install it. Once installed, run Ad-ware by clicking the icon in the start menu. You can try and I hope it will help. If not, just let me know and let us wake up ReeBop ! Haha. ;D [smiley=icon_drink.gif] |

Title: Re: SPYWARE INFECTIONS-VIRTUAL MEMORY TOO LOW!! Post by ReeBop on Jan 8th, 2006, 7:20am This sounds like a trojan / worm to me. Those can take up processes and memory. I recommend the following software to fix your issue... 1. Antivir - http://www.free-av.com Antivir is a good and free anti virus software. I find it much better than what Symantec and McAfee offer. It will also go in and clean areas of your Windows XP that fall under a different user's account. Download the Beta version of their Personal Edition. It is ready for "prime time". 2. Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html Spybot is great at what it does. Other products will do similar things, but Spybot has far fewer "false positives" than any of them. That includes Microsoft. At one time, Microsoft's product determined that FireFox was spyware. That should tell you about their product. Spybot is also easy on system resources as well. The TeaTimer is only useful if you are still stubbornly using Internet Explorer. 3. Zone Alarm Free Edition - http://www.download.com/3000-2092-10039884.html Zone Alarm I feel is the easiest personal firewall to setup. Just a few clicks and you are ready to go. The big thing about Zone Alarm though is outgoing program security. Any trojans still lurking about as parts that assemble themselves and run? Zone Alarm will stop them cold if you do not allow them to run. To be effective, you need to be sure that the program wishing to access the Internet is a program that you are running. Don't just OK everything. Witchy, these three programs are the way to go. I get paid to do this, and this is what I recommend to my clients. In a perfect world, we would all be running Linux, FreeBSD or MacOS, but we are not. Do yourself a big favor and get these three programs. If you are currently running an antivirus software, uninstall it first before installing AntiVir. That goes for any spyware detection software or personal firewall software as well. Haha, I feel like you would poke me if I still use IE. LOL. Quote:
Is it really needed to uninstall the current software before I download the other one, like AntiVir. Because I have two softwares installed including the AntiVir. Or, if it's still OK, is there any malfunction that will possibly occur? [smiley=taco.gif] for Bop ! ;D |

Title: Re: SPYWARE INFECTIONS-VIRTUAL MEMORY TOO LOW!! Post by ReeBop on Jan 8th, 2006, 7:46am Yes Kris, uninstall any other antivirus software before you install AntiVir. Two antivirus softwares running at one time can interfere with each other, and can slow your computer down as well. Thanks for the taco ;D [smiley=drummer.gif] |

Title: Re: SPYWARE INFECTIONS-VIRTUAL MEMORY TOO LOW!! Post by Jimbo on Jan 8th, 2006, 8:31am I do use zone alarm. and I use 3 different spyware programs.. Spy bot missed a lot, so I tried the beta of Micosoft, which works...I also use Webroot spyware which is outstanding.. Ad ware was written by a compnany that used spyware :( I did try the one I first posted that scans the entire computer and found 6 trojans ::) Since then my puter runs fast and fine.. Never use 2 anti virus programs....I prefer Norton, but many do not.. It has never let me down...I am not in the profession of computers any longer, but still keep up to date.... I stll use IE Bop, lol [smiley=thinking2.gif] [smiley=moped.gif] |

Title: Re: SPYWARE INFECTIONS-VIRTUAL MEMORY TOO LOW!! Post by Wicked_Witch on Jan 8th, 2006, 9:08am Another thing, just yesterday I got this message written in a red background from microsoft, or at least it's what is says...and it was telling me that my computer is infected and that "they" know I am using mozilla firefox, and that "they" know my IP address...etc..etc..... I got this when I accidentally clicked on IE instead of mozilla. Sheez...! It's really scaring me now! Not that I have any file worth saving here in my computer, I don't. I uses this mainly to check on my mails and to chat. And that whatever files they think they can destroy they are welcome to it. My only worry is that if it crashes, I won't be able to get online anymore!! [smiley=bigcry.gif] [smiley=bigcry.gif] [smiley=bigcry.gif]Ok, right now I have AVG..so are you saying I need to uninstall it first, Ree? How about e-mails? I need an anti-virus there too but I only have norton. And it's not even updated. I think I get trojan worms from the sites my son and his friends always visits. And probably online games too, right? Please reply ASAP..I'm scared!! [smiley=bigcry.gif] |

Please Witchy try that site....it will clean out everything... If your antivirus is outdated it will not find anything... This will pick up trojans and delete them...if you install a new antivirus it will think the trojans are normal for your puter....TRUST me on this Witchy... :-/ |
