Title: My first foray into Kernel 2.6
Post by ReeBop on Mar 16th, 2004, 11:02am
I put together my hobby machine and decided to load up the new Mandrake 10 Community.  The first problem was that it would not update my exsisting 9.1 system.  I didn't have a lot invested in it, so, I decided to just not format my /home directory.  The install went well, but I had to load many things later that should have been included by default.  Things like LinNeighborhood, KDEMultimedia, XMMS.  Kernel 2.6 makes the Pentium 200 snappy, but I have run into some weird bugs.  XMMS flat out crashes.  I thought it was a library problem, but, Noatun works fine, but skips a lot.  Sounds like a kernel problem.  KDE seems to run very fast in some areas, and slow in others.  I'll try an update to see if any packages will fix those problems.  I also think that the Mandrake folks went a little too far in their menu organization.  It is much more difficult to find things.  I miss the 9.1 organization.  More observations to come.....

Also, come to Geeksters.org and there will be discussion about this too.
