Title: For the Many Thousands of Linux Users Here... Post by ReeBop on Mar 19th, 2005, 8:25pm I know there are hundreds that read Linux stuff on this forum. Well, I can dream, can't I? KDE 3.4 has been released. I'm upgrading my KDE 3.3.2 on Fedora Core 3 as we speak. Later, I'll post a screenshot of my desktop on Picture Perfect. In other news, Knoppix 3.8 was released at the German CeBit show. This is a big release for Knoppix because Klaus Knopper has made Kernel 2.6 support the main kernel of the live cd. Also included is UnionFS support. I don't know a whole lot about UnionFS yet, so, I'll be reading up on it. This release can be found on Bit Torrents. I am certain that when 3.8 Official is released, it will contain the new KDE 3.4. To reference the Geeksters.org stories, go to these links: for Knoppix 3.8: http://www.geeksters.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=277 for KDE 3.4: http://www.geeksters.org/modules/news/article.php?storyid=276 Remember folks, if you are scared of doing any damage to your Windows on your computer, Knoppix is an absolutely fantastic way of giving Linux a try on your computer. None of your harddrive space will be changed. You can also take this cdrom anywhere, boot it up and run Linux. If you have any questions at all about using Knoppix or Linux, please let me know here in this group. I'm a 11 year user of Linux and have a wealth of experience to guide you. Cheers! Title: Re: For the Many Thousands of Linux Users Here... Post by ReeBop on Mar 19th, 2005, 10:28pm I have just finished my update to KDE 3.4 and what I am seeing is a much snappier KDE. The memory footprint looks about the same with a drop in swap memory usage. I'm posting this with Konqueror at the moment. In 3.3.2, Konquerer was very slow to come up, but is much much faster now. Same with K-Mail. I ran into a little trouble with dependancies....seems like there was a stray KDE 3.3.1 package still in there creating problems. I was able to remove the 2 packages, and everything proceeded smoothly using the Yum updater. I'll be posting my screenshot soon. |
