Title: Mandriva Linux 2006 First Impressions
Post by ReeBop on Nov 29th, 2005, 6:28am
I've done 3 upgrades of systems.  One for myself and 2 for others and I have to say that Mandriva Linux 2006 is showing itself to be a fine release.  I have not encountered one issue with it thus far.  I have yet to setup my PLF depository setting with Easy URPMI, but I feel that this will be easy as well.  It seems quite fast; maybe a little faster than Mandriva 2005.  The Mandrake tools work flawlessly.  I did run into a slowness with 2005 for a little while when KDE first started up, but this has not appeared with 2006.  One disappointment is that there is no OpenOffice 2.0.  They have stayed with version 1.1.5.  I hope that I can find a RPM file to update my Mandriva to that version.

I recommend this distribution to everyone that wants to install Linux on their desktop.
