Title: Impressions of SUSE 10.0 OSS
Post by ReeBop on Dec 30th, 2005, 7:44am
This is the first time I've loaded SUSE on a computer since version 6, and I have to say I'm quite pleased.  The machine ( a 300 mhz processor with 128 megs of RAM) moves right along and KDE looks and works great.  Two things that bother me so far however.  The Savage 2000 video support with the supplied version of X.org is frankly unacceptable.  There is no Xv support, only Xshm.  That means if I want to play a mpeg video file, rotten luck.  There is supposed to be support for Xv however, but there is no way to turn it on with the SAX video utility.  Second, the KWeather applet simply does not work.  You can't imput any weather station information into it.
Overall however, SUSE shines.  Yes, I'd rather use the Samba config utility over Yast, but I am quite happy with Yast and SUSE as a whole.  The splash screens and boot up process is a thing of beauty.  I would very much recommend SUSE 10.0 OSS to anyone wishing to explore Linux for the first time, or looking for a Linux distribution that has most everything you need on CDROM.  Huzzah to SUSE!

Ahh, Linux again. Sheeshh. Hahaha.

By the way, let me mention about that to my bro, since he is also a Linux man, like you. LOL. I heard him telling about the Robin Hood ......something like that, which he had just played on his Linux, to my other bro.  ;D
