Title: New HBO Series Called Deadwood Post by thebeast on Apr 4th, 2004, 3:46pm This is a new series for HBO. Listen I am a big time western fan and I love this show. Its kinda like the Sopranos but its set in the 1870s in either Montana or one of the Dakotas. Im not sure where. But the acting is good and it has plenty of drama and action in it. Some may find it vulger, but this is the way things probably were in the 1870s in a mining town with no law in it. :) Anyway anyone who has seen this post your fav characters and give your opinions on this new western series on HBO. I like wild bill hickock. Poor wild bill cant gamble worth crap and he is slowly creeping into old age but i still like his character the best ;D |

Title: Re: New HBO series called Deadwood Post by thebeast on May 9th, 2004, 1:53am Well Tina part of this series is based on true stories. Wild Bill Hickock was a real person and he was shot in the back by a coward while playing poker in a saloon somewhere. Im not sure where. Ive watched this series from day one and i learned they like to say the word cocksucker in it alot. Everyone is a cocksucker. My new favorite character is Calamity Jane. She was a real person also just like wild bill. Im scared to make her my fav character cuz she might get killed. Calamity Jane isnt your typical women of the day. She has a very foul mouth and she might open it one to many times and get shot like her friend Wild Bill did. |

Title: Re: New HBO series called Deadwood Post by need4speed8dalejr on Aug 17th, 2004, 11:51pm Yah... I watched a few episodes of the new HBO series "Deadwood". I gotta tell you...I didn't really like it. It had it's moments...but I just thought it was kindda lame. Take Carnival...and mix it with Oz...with a dash of Wild Wild West, and some Six feet Under thrown in for good measure. Yuck!! [smiley=sick.gif] |

Title: Re: New HBO series called Deadwood Post by thebeast on Aug 18th, 2004, 12:57am Need I fail to see the comparsian of deadwood to oz and six feet under. I dont even think deadwood has an undertaker in it. I see it like the sopranos in the late 1800s with the use of the word cocksucker a lot. I mean u gotta your Tony Soprano type of character called Al Swearengen who owns the bar and the cat house. He is not a nice guy, but he just trying to make a living. He dont kill anyone unless they deserve it or get in the way of him making any money. I like it cuz of its characters and I like westerns. I dont see the comparsion of OZ either. I dont even think that Deadwood has a jail in it yet. I havent seen the jail yet if it was on. They gotta temporary sherif now, but I dont think he has a jail yet. Maybe next season. Six feet under comparsion? Well the only dude burried that i saw was wild bill. Thats it. I know lots of other dudes have been killed but they didnt show them being burried. In deadwood they dont bury u they feed the dead to that china mans pigs, which by the way is the way that the real mob used to get rid of bodies when they didnt want the body to be found. Hell in Six Feet Under they bury at least one person each episode. I see no comparision there. There isnt no gays on deadwood either. If there were gays back in the late 1890s my guess is they were pretty quiet about it. Never seen a series called carnival. Sounds like a show about a circus type of thing. Well if it is I can assure u that no carnivals or circuses are in or will be coming to deadwood. Wild Wild West had Robert Conrad in it I think. Its a western with lots of fancy gadgets in it. I havent seen no fancy type of gadgets in Deadwood. Pretty much just lots of guns, horses, and shacks is all they have in Deadwood. Need just give Deadwood a little time. Once u get to know the characters u might actually like it. But dont compare it with other shows. Its a western like gunsmoke or rawhide or have gun will travel with foul language in it. |

Title: Re: New HBO series called Deadwood Post by need4speed8dalejr on Aug 19th, 2004, 4:30pm Beast, Yep...I understand what your saying. Like I said the show did have it's moments. It's not bad...just maybe not my cup of tea. Maybe I just need to watch the first episode...and go from there to get a good grip on this one. When I compared Deadwood to those other HBO shows, I was talking more about the mood, the way the show was shot and the way the script was written. I know that on the surface this show is nothing like Six Feet Under or Oz. It's more about the styles of those shows. When I watched Deadwood I noticed alot of little things...call it "HBO Infuences" if you will. Like the way the camera was pointing at someone, or maybe some quick wit in the script. I do how ever like westerns alot. I love all those old movies like "High Noon" and "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" stuff like that. |
