Title: Re: Can books help you change your personality? Post by cebuanalyn on Feb 29th, 2004, 11:15pm they does... i remember year 1998 when i was so depressed coz of heartache :-/ i read and read inspirational books and before i know it, i was able to accept the reality, and feel no hurt anymore... now, everytime i feel down, i get comfort in reading the books that will make me realized why such things happen..it's BIBLIOTHERAPY.. at least it's free :D they do change one's personality for we excel in our field because of those books, and not the teachers.. (teachers teach what they have taken from books too) hehehe. |

Title: Re: Can books help you change your personality? Post by madd on Mar 1st, 2004, 8:14pm yes they do. because if someone is misbehaving, keep hitting them on the head with a big thick book, hardcover is recommended. after hundreds of times of hitting that person, they'll start behaving. ;D ;D |

Title: Re: Can books help you change your personality? Post by thebeast on Jan 5th, 2005, 7:00am When I read a book and its a book I really like, I become totally consumed untill im finished. Most books I read I finish in a day or 2. I wont stop to eat, sleep, or do anything. So I would say yes it changes your personality while you are reading it if you read it like I do. I read about 1 book a month. I read newspapers, articles, and magazines mostly to keep me up to date with my job, my interests, and current world affairs. |

Title: Re: Can books help you change your personality? Post by Wicked_Witch on Aug 22nd, 2005, 2:16am Oh yessss....I'd say books has helped me a lot. I learned a lot of things I dont know of before I got addicted to reading. And it greatly changed my personality because I know so much more now than before. Like I said, I never had any formal education. So when people say I speak very well...inside I swell with pride. ;D And it gave me the self confidence I never had before when I was growing up. You might say I'm a self-taught person...so books really changed my personality. |

Title: Re: Can books help you change your personality? Post by earthlingorgeous on Aug 22nd, 2005, 8:09am Uhmmmmm... I think it doesn't change your personality. Books give you inputs one some things you don't know or you know but didn't give a chance to think about it but it doesn't change your personality. It can influence your thinking or how you view things but the whole essence of your personality doesn't change. Books and their content adheres to our faith and belief... we don't just swallow up information given by a particular book but we adopt some things we think are useful in our life. One's personality is made up of many factor... among which includes your environment ... i.e. friends, family, work (their thoughts and actuations bla bla)... what you read, what you watch...and the like. Books are entertaining and informative thats for sure...it can take us to a whole new world or make us realize things we know, we don't know and ignore. It influence us in a way but not change us drastically. |

I beg to differ, earthly. :PI dont know about the others but I believe it can. I had a bad case of inferiority complex when I was growing up because I dont have anything I can be proud of, personality wise. I can't even join in any conversation much less talk to some educated people in my cousin's circle of friends when I was living with some relatives coz they are the "kolehiyala" types? I used to be a meek mouse. Just sitting in one corner or serving snacks.Until I started reading. All the words that I dont understand, I look it up in the dictionary. Now I can converse with anyone. Heck, if truth be told I even love to argue when I have a point to make. :DI think books can change the personality of some people, and Im a good example of that. It certainly allowed me to spread my wings.I may not still know aything about calculus or computers but hey...you can't have everything in life [smiley=roll.gif] [smiley=roll.gif] [smiley=roll.gif] |

I agree with Earth as being an influencial to our life. Books like TV are great influence more to our behavior to react and changed of how we live but it can never change our innate characteristics of our personality. It can help us improve and get more knowledgeable of what we are lacking but it can never change the way who we really are. Because if your personality changed, then you are being considered hypocrite because you are acting to be someone who you are not. It is just a behavioral changes not a personality change...this is a taffy topic...it just an opinion from coochie coo... [smiley=icon_drink.gif] [smiley=icon_drink.gif] |

Title: Re: Can books help you change your personality? Post by Wicked_Witch on Dec 31st, 2005, 3:52am ARe you ladies saying personality traits are something inbred and can NOT be acquired? Are you saying what you learned from all those years of studies in school has already been imprinted in your brain but just have to "hone" them? I'm confused here :o. What do you term as "personality traits" anyway? manner of speaking? the way you dress? your impact on people? enlighten me pls so we can argue some more!:P [smiley=roll.gif] [smiley=roll.gif] [smiley=roll.gif] |

What I think my perception of traits are something we learned and can be improved. When we were born, we already have this innate personality. However, by reading or living in an environment where we acquire more knowledge to improve our traits...say you are pretty friendly, how ever you dont have any friends bec you dont know or you are not exposed to an environment that is wild and crazy. Another example, if you are a shy person, the more you are exposed to more population and interact with more people, you tend to change that traits of being shy. Personality can be change by working to improve or acquie some knowledge from books. However, some of our innate personality more on the perceive portion of our personality can never be change. I think the function side of your personality are the ones that are normally improve d or change.... |

Title: Re: Can books help you change your personality? Post by Wicked_Witch on Jan 5th, 2006, 4:13pm I think character traits are how you interact with people, while personality is what people sees in you, physically that is. And I disagree with what you said about being exposed to more population can overcome shyness. Maybe getting familiar with the people around you can make you set aside your shyness. But what about when you're with people you can't be with every time, just occassionally? Will you be able to talk to them about things you have no previous knowledge of ? Like for example doing job interviews? Can one be as knowledgeable if you have not gone to any school and studied those books we were talking about? Can you show as much confidence in answering questions? Being shy is not a personality trait, it is a character trait. You can change your personality but not your character. Because no amount of education can change what you really are inside you. On the other hand, you can change your personality from being dumb to a confident person if you have at least read some books, in or out of school. |

Personality comes from within...its from our parents that brought us to be like this...however with the help of books, teaches and learnings we become aware of many things around us thats why we have the freedom of changing our traits living inside our community wherein some can affects his/her personality with they way his/her lifestyle is. Its not that confusing as long as you know ureself and how u can be able to adapt yourself whenever it is populated or not. Personality traits is somebody`s attitude towards others, its one`s persons quality...Yes! its how u interact with ppl through ure speaking, movements and behavior. ;) |
