Title: China Slams Japan Over Suicide Allegations Post by nOrKAy on Dec 31st, 2005, 12:12pm China Slams Japan Over Suicide Allegations Courtesy of delawareonline- The News Journal China accused Japan on Thursday of "vile behavior" for blaming the suicide of a Japanese diplomat on Chinese agents, setting off a new round of tensions between the Asian rivals. China's Foreign Ministry criticized a statement by a Japanese government official Wednesday that the Japanese consulate official in Shanghai killed himself in May 2004 as a result of "an impermissible act by the Chinese security authorities." The diplomat's identity has not been released by authorities because of privacy concerns, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Shinzo Abe said. The angry exchange is the latest in a yearlong series of disputes between Beijing and Tokyo over their wartime history, possible gas resources in disputed seas and Japan's anxiety at China's growing military power. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said Thursday the allegations by Japan were unacceptable. "We express our strong indignation at the vile behavior of the Japanese government, which deliberately smears China's image," Qin said at a news briefing. Japan's Foreign Ministry was closed Thursday for the New Year holiday and officials were unavailable for comment. On Wednesday, Japanese Foreign Ministry spokesman Yoshinori Katori said China's actions in the diplomat's case "would seem to run counter" to its obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees the inviolability of diplomats. He did not elaborate. The major Japanese newspaper Asahi, citing unnamed Japanese government sources, said Thursday the diplomat handled communications between the consulate and the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo. It reported that the diplomat had left a note saying he killed himself because Chinese security authorities were pressuring him for confidential diplomatic information, using a "woman problem" as leverage. The national Sankei newspaper said Wednesday the official was being pressured to provide the names of consulate staff members and flights used in carrying classified documents from China to Japan. The newspaper, citing unidentified government sources, said the official left notes to family members and the Japanese consul general in Shanghai saying he could not "sell" his country. ****************************************************************************** What is your perspective on this article/news, especially the suicide commited by the Japanese diplomat ? Quote:
So, is committing suicide one way of standing one's country? Or in this case, what was the contribution of the suicide, to the issue that Japan and China have ? It was never stated that the officer was threatened, why then did he commit suicide? I really can't understand either, and yes, I would also call Japan's behaviour, vile, for blaming the Chinese agents for the suicide committed by the Japanese diplomat. Let's hear your say, folks. ;D |

Title: Re: China Slams Japan Over Suicide Allegations Post by okasantina on May 11th, 2006, 9:40am Dont you know that until now Japan and China still has a silent war until now? It came to me as a joke but when read the news here in Japan..that i found out that most of the Japanese really DO NOT LIKE Chinese ways. Chinese claims so many thing from Japan that until now even when the war II ended they still claim for something. So as i respond about the committting suicide from this Japanese government official was just a traditional way of their culture belief of their morals with dignity. He is just fighting for what he believes and its not only because of what his work is...but he has to protect his country...it was a very complicated issue. And its Japanese you know....Samurai. lol |

Title: Re: China Slams Japan Over Suicide Allegations Post by Wicked_Witch on May 12th, 2006, 8:37am Well, there must be something terrible that happened which lead him to commit suicide? Base on the note, it sounds like the Japanese was under pressure or something. Blackmail? Because I think that the only time anyone would choose the cowardly way out is as a last resort, when there is no more way out available to get out of the mess that person is involved in. |
