Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by norkay on Jan 20th, 2005, 10:29am http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v480/norkay27/cloudssun.gif I dreamed I had an interview with God. "Come in," God said. "So, you would like to interview Me?" "If You have the time," I said. God smiled and said: "Time is eternity and is enough to do everything; What questions do you have in mind to ask me?" What surprises You most about mankind?" God answered: "That they get bored of being children, are in a rush to grow up, and then long to be children again. "That they lose their health to make money and then lose their money to restore their health. "That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such that they live neither for the present nor the future. "That they live as if they will never die, and they die as if they had never lived." God's hands took mine and we were silent for awhile and then I asked... "As a parent, what are some of life's lessons You want your children to learn?" God replied with a smile: "To learn that they cannot make anyone love them. What they can do is to let themselves be loved. "To learn that what is most valuable is not what they have in their lives, but who they have in their lives. "To learn that it is not good to compare themselves to others. All will be judged individually on their own merits, not as a group on a comparison basis! "To learn that a rich person is not the one who has the most, but is one who needs the least. "To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open profound wounds in persons we love, and that it takes many years to heal them. "To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness. "To learn that there are persons that love them dearly, but simply do not know how to express or show their feelings. "To learn that money can buy everything but happiness. "To learn that two people can look at the same thing and see it totally different. "To learn that a true friend is someone who knows everything about them...and likes them anyway. "To learn that it is not always enough that they be forgiven by others, but that they have to forgive themselves." I sat there for awhile enjoying the moment. I thanked Him for his time and for all that He has done for me and my family, and He replied, "Anytime. I'm here 24 hours a day. All you have to do is ask for me, and I'll answer." ~Author Unknown - |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by norkay on Mar 24th, 2005, 6:04am It's In The Valleys I Grow It's In The Valleys I Grow Sometimes life seems hard to bear, Full of sorrow, trouble and woe It's then I have to remember That it's in the valleys I grow. If I always stayed on the mountain top And never experienced pain, I would never appreciate God's love And would be living in vain. I have so much to learn And my growth is very slow, Sometimes I need the mountain tops, But, it's in the valleys I grow. I do not always understand Why things happen as they do, But I am very sure of one thing. My Lord will see me through. My little valleys are nothing When I picture Christ on the cross He went through the valley of death; His victory was Satan's loss. Forgive me Lord, for complaining When I'm feeling so very low. Just give me a gentle reminder That it's in the valleys I grow. Continue to strengthen me, Lord And use my life each day To share your love with others And help them find their way. Thank you for valleys, Lord For this one thing I know The mountain tops are glorious But, it's in the valleys I grow! By: JANE EGGLESTON |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by gracia on Apr 5th, 2005, 3:52am In all the events of life; in disappointments.... In the thoughtlessness of others..... In the faithfulness of those on whom I relied.... In the sincerity of those I trusted. Let me put myself aside, to think of the happiness of others To hide my little pains and heartaches, so that I may be the one to suffer from them. Teach me to profit by the sufferings that comes accross my path. Let me so use it that it may mellow me, that it may make me patience not irritable, that it may make me broad in my forgiveness, not narrow, haughty and overbearing. May no one be less good for having come within my influence. No one less pure, less true, less kind, less noble for having been a fellow traveller towards ETERNAL LIFE May my life be full of power for good and strong in its purpose of Sanctity |

Title: Develop the right (self) attitude Post by gracia on Apr 18th, 2005, 6:24am Here are 10 suggestions to help you develop and maintain a healthy self-image. Read them slowly. Meditate on them regularly. 1. Hate your sin, but never hate yourself. 2. Be quick to repent. 3. When God gives you light, walk in it. 4. Stop saying negative things about yourself. God loves you and it's wrong to hate what He loves. He has great plans for you, so you're in conflict with Him when you speak negatively concerning your future. 5. Never be afraid to admit that you've made a mistake and don't always assume that when things go wrong, it must be 'my fault'. 6. Don't meditate excessively on what you've done, right or wrong; both of these activities keep your mind on you! Center your thoughts on Christ. 7. Take good care of yourself physically. Make the best of what God gave you to work with, but don't be obsessed with your appearance. 8. Never stop learning but don't allow your education to become a point of pride. God doesn't use you because of what's in your head: He uses you because of what's in your heart. 9. Realize that your talents are a gift, not something you have manufactured yourself; never look down on people who can't do what you do. 10. Don't despise your weaknesses they keep you dependent on God. PRAYER "Lord Jesus Christ, your love is better than life itself. May your love consume and transform my life that I may desire you above all else. Help me to love what you love, to desire what you desire, and to reject what you reject". |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by killerabbit on Apr 27th, 2005, 9:40am DARRELL SCOTT TESTIMONY Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript: "Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers. "The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart. "In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent. I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy-it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. "I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best. This was written way before I knew I would be speaking here today: Your laws ignore our deepest needs, Your words are empty air. You've stripped away our heritage, You've outlawed simple prayer. Now gunshots fill our classrooms, And precious children die. You seek for answers everywhere, And ask the question "Why?" You regulate restrictive laws, Through legislative creed. And yet you fail to understand, That God is what we need! "Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, soul, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and reek havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. "Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts. "As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes-He did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America, and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA - I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone! My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!" |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by Cheezy on Sep 8th, 2005, 11:10am I was reading a book full of Spiritual stories my father brought to me.It's an old book but since he said no one is reading it in the Philippines,he brought it for me to Hong Kong. I came across to this story of a man who lost his son. The Story A man was in charge of pulling levers for this draw bridge at a railroad station. He had 20 seconds from the time the train blew its horn to pull the lever or the train would crash. Well one day he decided to bring his 6 year old son to work with him to let him see what his father did for a living. The father told him,"You can play anywhere in the train station except for on the tracks." So the train horn blew, and just before the father pulled the lever, he looked around for his son. When he couldn't find him around the station he looked on the tracks...there was his son. Hysterical the man became as time ran down. He didn't have enough time to go get his son out of danger and be back in time to save the people by pulling the lever. He had a choice...Save his son and kill all people on the train, or kill his son and save all the lives on the train... So the father pulled the lever and sadly stood watching as his son was crushed by the bridge machanics. The father was now breaking things, kicking and screaming at what had just happened. He just purposly killed his only son so that all the people/strangers on the train could escape there fate (death). As the train passed by he looked at the people. Some were reading, some sleeping, and some just socalizing. The sad part about that story is that the people on the train would get off at their destination and go on about their lives never knowing the sacrafice that father made for them. The lesson I have learned The same is true in our world today. From the womb we were all born with sin. The bible says: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." ~ Romans 3:23 As the people on the train simply went on about their lives, we go about ours. They did not know the draw bridge was up and they were headed to a certain death. The bible says: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." ~ Romans 6:23 "God demonstrates His own love toward us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." ~ Romans 3:8 Just as the man cared so much for the strangers on the train to sacrafice his son's life. So God gave his only son Christ Jesus that we may be saved from our life of sin and be with Him in heaven for eternity. The bible says: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him shall not die but have everlasting life. ~ John 3:16 The sad part of the story is that so many people that day went on about their lives never knowing the great sacrifice the man made for them.So many of us fail to acknowledge the loving sacrifice God has made for us.He has already saved us, now how will we thank Him? Would you have thanked the man that day? It is written: "As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God." ~ Romans 14:11 Will you not give your all for the freedom from sin you now have?Let us not be like so many on the train that day that went on in ignorance. But know, understand, and love the amazing sacrifice that God has done for you. In the words of Jesus: "I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over 99 just persons who need no repentance." ~ Luke 15:7 |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by gracia on Sep 9th, 2005, 9:21am Certainly nothing can so effectually humble us before the mercy of God as the multitude of his benefits. Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by Gracia on Sep 23rd, 2005, 4:33am This morning when the Lord opened a window to Heaven, he saw me, and he asked: "My child, what is your greatest wish for today?" I responded: "Lord, please take care of the person who is reading this message, their family and their special friends. They deserve it, and I love them very much". The love of God is like the ocean: you can see its beginning, but not its end. This message works on the day you receive it. To some, it may sound dumb, but the person who sent this to me was impressed with the time. Let us see if it is true. Angels exist, but sometimes, since they don't all have wings, we call them friends, such as YOU. Thank You for giving me wonderful friends Lord and bless them all. |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by Sweet and Sour on Sep 28th, 2005, 6:24am he dropped to his knees in prayer. Lord, I can't go on, he said. I have too heavy a cross to bear. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kriswen/cross17.gif The Lord replied, My son, if you can't bear its weight, just place your cross inside this room. Then, open that other door and pick out any cross you wish. The man was filled with relief. Thank you Lord, he sighed, and he did as he was told. Upon entering the other door, he saw many crosses, some so large the tops were not visible. Then, he spotted a tiny cross leaning against a far wall. I'd like that one, Lord," he whispered. And the Lord replied, My son, that is the cross you just brought in. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kriswen/cross14.gif When life's problems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and see what other people are coping with. You may consider yourself far more fortunate than you imagined. Your Cross, Whatever your cross, whatever your pain. There will always be sunshine after the rain. Perhaps you may stumble, perhaps even fall, but... God is always there. |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by Gracia on Oct 15th, 2005, 7:14pm After living what I felt was a "decent" life, my time on earth came to the end. The first thing I remember is sitting on a bench in the waiting room of what I thought to be a court house. The doors opened and I was instructed to come in and have a seat by the defense table. As I looked around I saw the "prosecutor." He was a villainous looking gent who snarled as he stared at me. He definitely was the most evil person I have ever seen. I sat down and looked to my left and there sat My Attorney, a kind and gentle looking man whose appearance seemed so familiar to me, I felt I knew Him. The corner door flew open and there appeared the Judge in full flowing robes. He commanded an awesome presence as He moved across the room. I couldn't take my eyes off of Him. As He took His seat behind the bench, He said, "Let us begin." The prosecutor rose and said, "My name is Satan and I am here to show you why this sinner belongs in hell." He proceeded to tell of lies that I told, things that I stole, and in the past when I cheated others. Satan told of other horrible perversions that were once in my life and the more he spoke, the further down in my seat I sank. I was so embarrassed that I couldn't look at anyone, even my own Attorney, as the Devil told of sins that even I had completely forgotten about. As upset as I was at Satan for telling all these things about me, I was equally upset at My Attorney who sat there silently not offering any form of defense at all. I know I had been guilty of those things, but I had done some good in my life --couldn't that at least equal out part of the harm I'd done? Satan finished with a fury and said, "This sinner belongs in hell, and is guilty of all that I have charged and there is not a person who can prove otherwise." When it was His turn, My Attorney first asked if He might approach the bench. The Judge allowed this over the strong objection of Satan, and beckoned Him to come forward. As He got up and started walking, I was able to see Him in His full splendor and majesty. I realized why He seemed so familiar; this was Jesus representing me, my Lord and my Savior. He stopped at the bench and softly said to the Judge, "Hi, Dad," and then He turned to address the court. "Satan was correct in saying that this man had sinned, I won't deny any of these allegations. And, yes, the wage of sin is death, and this sinner deserves to be punished." Jesus took a deep breath and turned to His Father with outstretched arms and proclaimed, "However, I died on the cross so that this person might have eternal life and he has accepted Me as his Savior, so he is Mine." My Lord continued with, "His name is written in the book of life and no one can snatch him from Me. Satan still does not understand yet. This man is not to be given justice, but rather mercy." As Jesus sat down, He quietly paused, looked at His Father and said,"There is nothing else that needs to be done. I've done it all." The Judge lifted His mighty hand and slammed the gavel down. The following words resounded from His lips... "This man is free. The penalty for him has already been paid in full. Case dismissed." As my Lord embraced me and led me away, I could hear Satan ranting and raving, "I won't give up, I will win the next one." I asked Jesus as He gave me my instructions where to go next, "Have you ever lost a case?" Christ lovingly smiled and said, "Everyone that has come to Me and asked Me to represent them has received the same verdict as you, "PAID IN FULL." "Stop telling God how big your storm is. Instead, tell the storm how big your God is!" |

Title: LESSONS ON LIFE Post by Gracia on Oct 17th, 2005, 6:38am There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn, to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away. The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall. When they had all gone and come back, he called them together to describe what they had seen. The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted. The second son said no it was covered with green buds and full of promise. The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen. The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment. The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen but only one season in the tree's life. He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season, and that the essence of who they are and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up. If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, fulfillment of your fall. Moral: Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest. Don't judge life by one difficult season. Persevere through the difficult patches and better times are sure to come some time or later. |

Title: JESUS IN MY HEART Post by Gracia on Oct 27th, 2005, 2:14pm "Tomorrow morning," the surgeon began, "I'll open up your heart..." "You'll find Jesus there," the boy interrupted. The surgeon looked up, annoyed "I'll cut your heart open, " he continued, to see how much damage has been done ..." "But when you open up my heart, you'll find Jesus in there," said the boy. The surgeon looked to the parents, who sat quietly. " when I see how much damage has been done, I'll sew your heart and chest back up, and I'll plan what to do next." "But you'll find Jesus in my heart. The Bible says He lives there. The hymns all say He lives there. You'll find Him in my heart." The surgeon had had enough. "I'll tell you what I'll find in your heart. I'll find damaged muscle, low blood supply, and weakened vessels. And I'll find out if I can make you well." "You'll find Jesus there too. He lives there." The surgeon left. The surgeon sat in his office, recording his notes from the surgery, "...damaged aorta, damaged pulmonary vein, widespread muscle deneration. No hope for transplant, no hope for cure. Therapy: painkillers and bed rest. Prognosis: "...here he paused,... "death within one year." He stopped the recorder, but there was more to be said. "Why"? he asked aloud. "Why did You do this? You've put him here; You've put him in this pain; and You've cursed him to an early death. Why?" The Lord answered and said, "The boy, My lamb, was not meant for your flock for long, for he is part of My flock, and will forever be. Here, in My flock, he will feel no pain, and will be comforted as you cannot imagine. His parents will one day join him here, and they will know peace, and My flock will continue to grow." The surgeon's tears were hot, but his anger was hotter. "You created that boy, and You created that heart. He'll be dead in months. Why"? The Lord answered, "The boy, My lamb, shall return to my flock, for he has Done his duty: I did not put My lamb with your flock to lose him, but to retrieve another lost lamb." The surgeon wept.. The surgeon sat beside the boy's bed; the boy's parents sat across from him. The boy awoke and whispered, "Did you cut open my heart?" "Yes," said the surgeon. "What did you find?" asked the boy. Title: The Ant and the Contact Lens Post by Gracia on Nov 11th, 2005, 3:14am A friend sent this to me....read on! Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens. "Great", she thought. "Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry." She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there. She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens. When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse "The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth." She thought, "Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me." Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, "Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?" Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it! The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, "Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You." I think it would do all of us some good to say, "God, I don't know why You want me to carry this load. I can see no good in it and it's awfully heavy. But, if You want me to carry it, I will." God doesn't call the qualified, He qualifies the called. Yes, I do love GOD. He is my source of existence and my Savior. He keeps me functioning each and every day. Without Him, I am nothing, but with Him....I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13) |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by Gracia on Nov 16th, 2005, 7:19am forwarded by a friend There was a certain Professor of Religion named Dr. Christianson, a studious man who taught at a small college in the Western United States. Dr. Christianson taught the required survey course in Christianity at this particular institution. Every student was required to take this course his or her freshman year regardless of his or her major. Although Dr. Christianson tried hard to communicate the essence of the gospel in his class, he found that most of his students looked upon the course as nothing but required drudgery. Despite his best efforts, most students refused to take Christianity seriously. This year, Dr. Christianson had a special student named Steve. Steve was only a freshman, but was studying with the intent of going onto seminary for the ministry. Steve was popular, he was well liked, and he was an imposing physical specimen. He was now the starting center on the school football team, and was the best student in the professor's class. One day, Dr. Christianson asked Steve to stay after class so he could talk with him. "How many push-ups can you do?" Steve said, "I do about 200 every night." "200? That's pretty good, Steve," Dr. Christianson said. "Do you think you could do 300?" Steve replied, "I don't know... I've never done 300 at a time." "Do you think you could?" again asked Dr. Christianson. "Well, I can try," said Steve. "Can you do 300 in sets of 10? I have a class project in mind and I need you to do about 300 push-ups in sets of ten for this to work. Can you do it? I need you to tell me you can do it," said the professor. Steve said, "Well... I think I can...yeah, I can do it." Dr. Christianson said, "Good! I need you to do this on Friday. Let me explain what I have in mind." Friday came and Steve got to class early and sat in the front of the room. When class started, the professor pulled out a big box of donuts. No these weren't the normal kinds of donuts, they were the extra fancy BIG kind, with cream centers and frosting swirls. Everyone was pretty excited it was Friday, the last class of the day, and they were going to get an early start on the weekend with a party in Dr. Christianson's class. Dr. Christianson went to the first girl in the first row and asked, "Cynthia, do you want to have one of these donuts?" Cynthia said, "Yes." Dr. Christianson then turned to Steve and asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Cynthia can have a donut?" "Sure." Steve jumped down from his desk to do a quick ten. Then Steve again sat in his desk. Dr. Christianson put a donut on Cynthia's desk. Dr. Christianson then went to Joe, the next person, and asked, "Joe, do you want a donut?" Joe said, "Yes." Dr. Christianson asked, "Steve would you do ten push-ups so Joe can have a donut?" Steve did ten push-ups, Joe got a donut. And so it went, down the first aisle, Steve did ten pushups for every person before they got their donut. And down the second aisle, till Dr. Christianson came to Scott. Scott was on the basketball team, and in as good condition as Steve. He was very popular and never lacking for female companionship. When the professor asked, "Scott do you want a donut?" Scott's reply was, "Well, can I do my own pushups?" Dr. Christianson said, "No, Steve has to do them." Then Scott said, "Well, I don't want one then." Dr. Christianson shrugged and then turned to Steve and asked, "Steve, would you do ten pushups so Scott can have a donut he doesn't want?" With perfect obedience Steve started to do ten pushups. Scott said, "HEY! I said I didn't want one!" Dr. Christianson said, "Look, this is my classroom, my class, my desks, and these are my donuts. Just leave it on the desk if you don't want it." And he put a donut on Scott's desk. Now by this time, Steve had begun to slow down a little. He just stayed on the floor between sets because it took too much effort to be getting up and down. You could start to see a little perspiration coming out around his brow. Dr. Christianson started down the third row. Now the students were beginning to get a little angry. Dr. Christianson asked Jenny, "Jenny, do you want a donut?" Sternly, Jenny said, "No." Then Dr. Christianson asked Steve, "Steve, would you do ten more Push-ups so Jenny can have a donut that she doesn't want?" Steve did ten....Jenny got a donut. to be continued.... |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by Gracia on Nov 16th, 2005, 7:22am continuation By now, a growing sense of uneasiness filled the room. The students were beginning to say "No" and there were all these uneaten donuts on the desks. Steve also had to really put forth a lot of extra effort to get these pushups done for each donut. There began to be a small pool of sweat on the floor beneath his face, his arms and brow were beginning to get red because of the physical effort involved. Dr. Christianson asked Robert, who was the most vocal unbeliever in the class, to watch Steve do each push up to make sure he did the full ten pushups in a set because he couldn't bear to watch all of Steve's work for all of those uneaten donuts. He sent Robert over to where Steve was so Robert could count the set and watch Steve closely. Dr. Christianson started down the fourth row. During his class, however, some students from other classes had wandered in and sat down on the steps along the radiators that ran down the sides of the room. When the professor realized this, he did a quick count and saw that now there were 34 students in the room. He started to worry if Steve would be able to make it. Dr. Christianson went on to the next person and the next and the next. Near the end of that row, Steve was really having a rough time. He was taking a lot more time to complete each set. Steve asked Dr. Christianson, "Do I have to make my nose touch on each one?" Dr. Christianson thought for a moment, "Well, they're your pushups. You are in charge now. You can do them any way that you want." And Dr. Christianson went on. A few moments later, Jason, a recent transfer student, came to the room and was about to come in when all the students yelled in one voice, "NO! Don't come in! Stay out!" Jason didn't know what was going on. Steve picked up his head and said, "No, let him come." Professor Christianson said, "You realize that if Jason comes in you will have to do ten pushups for him?" Steve said, "Yes, let him come in. Give him a donut" Dr. Christianson said, "Okay, Steve, I'll let you get Jason's out of the way right now. Jason, do you want a donut?" Jason, new to the room hardly knew what was going on. "Yes," he said, "give me a donut." "Steve, will you do ten push-ups so that Jason can have a donut?" Steve did ten pushups very slowly and with great effort. Jason, bewildered, was handed a donut and sat down. Dr. Christianson finished the fourth row, then started on those visitors seated by the heaters. Steve's arms were now shaking with each push-up in a struggle to lift himself against the force of gravity. Sweat was profusely dropping off of his face and, by this time, there was no sound except his heavy breathing, there was not a dry eye in the room. The very last two students in the room were two young women, both cheerleaders, and very popular. Dr. Christianson went to Linda, the second to last, and asked, "Linda, do you want a doughnut?" Linda said, very sadly, "No, thank you." Professor Christianson quietly asked, "Steve, would you do ten push-ups so that Linda can have a donut she doesn't want?" Grunting from the effort, Steve did ten very slow pushups for Linda. Then Dr. Christianson turned to the last girl, Susan. "Susan, do you want a donut?" Susan, with tears flowing down her face, began to cry. "Dr. Christianson, why can't I help him?" Dr. Christianson, with tears of his own, said, "No, Steve has to do it alone, I have given him this task and he is in charge of seeing that everyone has an opportunity for a donut whether they want it or not. When I decided to have a party this last day of class, I looked at my grade book. Steve, here is the only student with a perfect grade. Everyone else has failed a test, skipped class, or offered me inferior work. Steve told me that in football practice, when a player messes up he must do push-ups. I told Steve that none of you could come to my party unless he paid the price by doing your push ups. He and I made a deal for your sakes. Steve, would you do ten push-ups so Susan can have a donut?" As Steve very slowly finished his last pushup, with the understanding that he had accomplished all that was required of him, having done 350 pushups, his arms buckled beneath him and he fell to the floor. Dr. Christianson turned to the room and said. "And so it was, that our Savior, Jesus Christ, on the cross, plead to the Father, 'into thy hands I commend my spirit.' With the understanding that He had done everything that was required of Him, he yielded up His life. And like some of those in this room, many of us leave the gift on the desk, uneaten." Two students helped Steve up off the floor and to a seat, physically exhausted, but wearing a thin smile. "Well done, good and faithful servant," said the professor, adding "Not all sermons are preached in words." Turning to his class the professor said, "My wish is that you might understand and fully comprehend all the riches of grace and mercy that have been given to you through the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He spared not only His Begotten Son, but gave Him up for us all for the whole Church, now and forever. Whether or not we choose to accept His gift to us, the price has been paid. Wouldn't you be foolish and ungrateful to leave it laying on the desk?" the end |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by Saffire_65 on Dec 13th, 2005, 2:09am On the first day God created the dog. God said, "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. I will give you a life span of twenty years." The dog said, "That's too long to be barking. Give me ten years and I'll give you back the other ten." So God agreed. On the second day God created the monkey. God said, "Entertain people, do monkey tricks, make them laugh. I'll give you a twenty-year life span." The monkey said, "How boring, monkey tricks for twenty years? I don't think so. Dog gave you back ten, so that's what I'll do too, okay?" And God agreed. On the third day God created the cow. God said, "You must go to the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer. I will give you a life span of sixty years." The cow said, "That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. Let me have twenty and I'll give back the other forty." And God agreed again. On the forth day God created man. God said, "Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. I'll give you twenty years." Man said, "What? Only twenty years! Tell you what, I'll take my twenty, and the forty the cow gave back and the ten the monkey gave back and the ten the dog gave back, that makes eighty, okay?" "Okay," said God, "You've got a deal." So that is why the first twenty years we eat, sleep, play, and enjoy ourselves; for the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family; for the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren; and for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone. Life has now been explained to you! |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by Gracia on Feb 17th, 2006, 3:44am THE LORD'S BASEBALL GAME Freddy and the Lord stood by to observe a baseball game. The Lord's team was playing Satan's team. The Lord's team was at bat, the score was tied zero to zero, and it was the bottom of the 9th inning with two outs. They continued to watch as a batter stepped up to the plate named 'Love.' Love swung at the first pitch and hit a single, because " Love never fails." The next batter was named Faith , who also got a single because Faith works with Love . The next batter up was named Godly Wisdom . Satan wound up and threw the first pitch. Godly Wisdom looked it over and let it pass: Ball one. Three more pitches and Godly Wisdom walked because he never swings at what Satan throws . The bases were now loaded. The Lord then turned to Freddy and told him He was now going to bring in His star player. Up to the plate stepped Grace .. Freddy said, "He sure doesn't look like much!" Satan's whole team relaxed when they saw Grace .. Thinking he had won the game, Satan wound up and fired his first pitch. To the shock of everyone, Grace hit the ball harder than anyone had ever seen! But Satan was not worried; his center fielder let very few get by. He went up for the ball, but it went right through his glove, hit him on the head and sent him crashing on the ground; the roaring crowds went wild as the ball continued over the fence . . . for a home run! The Lord's team win! The Lord then asked Freddy if he knew why Love , Faith and Godly Wisdom could get on base but couldn't win the game. Freddy answered that he didn't know why. The Lord explained, "If your love , faith and wisdom had won the game, you would think you had done it by yourself. Love , Faith and Wisdom will get you on base but only My Grace can get you Home : 'For by Grace are you saved, it is a gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9 Psalm 84:11, "For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly." , I do Love God. He is my source of existence and Savior. He keeps me functioning each and everyday. Without Him, I am nothing, but with him: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Phil 4:13 Amen. |

Title: Example of Brotherly love as commanded by Jesus Post by Kitch on Apr 10th, 2006, 3:52am A true Story I heard that is an example of loving your brother. There was a boy named Shawn who was a special needs kids, what exactly his health problems. Yet Shawn against his father’s better judgment wanted to play baseball, however the father let his son participate in the team. Shawn played the right field and got very little action during the season. During the last game of the year and at the end of the ninth Shawn’s team was down by one and had one man on base. Shawn was scheduled to bat and instead of putting a pinch hitter in to play the coach choose to give Shawn a chance to play was more important then winning the game. Shawn’s Condition was quite clear to anyone who saw him. The Pitcher seeing that Shawn was at bat knowing that the game was on the line made the decision, to get closer to Shawn and toss the ball gently. As usual Shawn swung and missed so the Pitcher stepped in even closer. Toss the ball ever so gently and Shawn swung and hit the ball for the first time all season. The ball Landed with in feet of the Pitcher. Shawn was running toward first base. His team mates all shouting run Shawn Run. The pitcher could have easily through him out. Instead lobbed the ball at the first base man and way over his head. Shawn’s team started yelling go for second go for second. Shawn started to run for second, the first base men realizing what was going on with the pitcher and followed his cue tossing the ball way over the second basemen’s head. Both Teams got involved shouting Runs Shawn Run Shawn! The opposing team did everything possible to convince Shawn they were trying to get him out and letting him make the run. As Shawn crossed the home base he had one the game and the first time in his life. He was the hero of the Game, he made the winning play. Shawn died before the next baseball season, however in his remaining days he looked back with pride and joy over being the hero of the Game. This story was read by the father of the boy, at a meeting of parents the little league the next year with tears in his eyes. For their children made his some feel special more then anyone else ever had with this simple gesture of Brotherly love. Since these boys didn’t have to make the sacrifice of loosing the game nor did the coach have to let him play. Each plays apart to let this boy feel pride that he would never have gotten the chance to know again. |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by nOrKAy on Apr 26th, 2006, 10:42am I wanted to share this sharing, sent by my bestfriend Bea. By Msgr. Socrates B. Villegas, Jesus in My Heart Excerpted from "Carelessness" (orig. title) DESPITE OUR OWN CARELESSNESS A little boy celebrated his eighteenth birthday. When I asked him what he remembers of his birthday last year, he answered: "Last year, I received my first pair of long pants." According to him, this new pair of pants was about six inches longer than his usual size. So he asked his mother to cut it short for him. His mother refused, saying: "Keep it that way. In no time it will fit you as you grow so fast." Wanting to really have his pants cut short, he approached his elder sister and grandmother with the same request . Both offered some excuse not to do it for him. With a heavy heart, he went to sleep, resigned with the fact that he will have to wear his pants longer than usual. As he was asleep, his mother saw his pants by his bed. Feeling guilty at having turned down the boy's earlier request, she cut off six inches from it to fit his size. After which, she returned the pants by the bed. Then, his elder sister also happened to pass by. She saw the pants and felt guilty also so she cut off six inches from it as the boy had requested. The grandmother came in next and did the same thing as his mother and elder sister. The next day, on his birthday, he had a new pair of short pants! On that day also his mother, elder sister and grandmother felt even more guilty. Why? They knew that what they did for the boy was an effort that they did not think about. It was a careless effort. We all do the same thing ourselves. We do things without much thought. We say things we do not mean. We make promises that we could hardly keep. Peter and Paul were like that. We know how Peter said to the Lord: "Lord, I will never leave you." And to that remark the Lord could only say: "Tomorrow, before the cock crows three times, you will deny Me three times." And Paul? Paul was a dedicated Pharisee. He thought that in killing the first Christian he was doing God's will. ...We do not celebrate Peter and Paul's faults and careless efforts. We celebrate the fact that despite our own carelessness and faults, God gives us new opportunities. Peter made a mistake. Paul committed the same. But God gave them another chance. You may have committed so many sins. You may have made broken promises. You may have done things without reflecting. But there is always second chance for you. I invite you to begin again and become great yourself. |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by Wicked_Witch on May 6th, 2006, 7:20am here's a story sent to me by a friend. On the last day before Christmas, I hurried to go to the supermarket to buy the remaining of the gift I didn't manage to buy earlier. When I saw all the people there, I started to complain to myself,"It is going to take forever here and I still have so many other places to go. Christmas really is getting more and more annoying every year. How I wish I could just lie down, go to sleep and only wake up after it..." Nonetheless, I made my way to the toy section, and there I started to curse the prices, wondering if after all kids really play with such expensive toys. While looking in the toy section, I noticed a small boy of about 5 years old, pressing a doll against his chest. He kept on touching the hair of the doll and looked so sad. I wondered who was this doll for. Then the little boy turned to the old woman next to him, "Granny, are you sure I don't have enough money?" The old lady replied, "You know that you don't have enough money to buy this doll, my dear." Then she asked him to stay here for 5 minutes while she went to look around. She left quickly. The little boy was still holding the doll in his hand. Finally, I started to walk toward him and I asked him who did he want to give this doll to. "It is the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much for this Christmas. She was so sure that Santa Claus would bring it to her." I replied to him that maybe Santa Claus will bring it to her, after all, and not to worry. But he replied to me sadly. "No, Santa Claus can not bring it to her where she is now. I have to give the doll to my mother so that she can give it to her when she goes there." His eyes were so sad while saying this. "My sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mummy will also go to see God very soon, so I thought that she could bring the doll with her to give it to my sister." My heart nearly stopped. The little boy looked up at me and said, "I told daddy to tell mummy not to go yet. I asked him to wait until I come back from the supermarket." Then he showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing. He then told me, "I also want mummy to take this photo with her so that she will not forget me." I love my mummy and I wish she doesn't have to leave me but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister." Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly. I quickly reached for my wallet and took a few notes and said to the boy, "What if we checked again, just in case if you have enough money?" "Ok," he said. "I hope that I have enough." I added some of my money to his without him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll, and even some spare money. The little boy said, "Thank you God for giving me enough money." Then he looked at me and added, "I asked yesterday before I slept for God to make sure I have enough money to buy this doll so that mummy can give it to my sister. He heard me." "I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mummy, but I didn't dare to ask God too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll and the white rose." "You know, my mummy loves white rose." A few minutes later, the old lady came again and I left with my trolley. I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I started. I couldn't get the little boy out of my mind. Then I remembered a local newspaper article 2 days ago, which mentioned of a drunk man in a truck who hit a car where there was one young lady and a little girl. The little girl died right away, and the mother was left in a critical state. The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-assisting machine, because the young lady would not be able to get out of the coma. Was this the family of the little boy? Two days after this encounter with the little boy, I read in the newspaper that the young lady had passed away. I couldn't stop myself and went to buy a bunch of white roses and I went to the mortuary where the body of the young woman was exposed for people to see and make last wish before burial. She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest. I left the place crying, feeling that my life had been changed forever. The love that this little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to that day, hard to imagine. And in a fraction of a second, a drunk man had taken all this away from him. |

One of the men proclaimed, "Anyone willing to take a bullet for Christ remain where you are." Immediately, the choir fled...the deacons fled...and most of the congregation fled.... Out of the 2,000 there only remained around 20. The man who had spoken took off his hood... He then looked at the preacher and said "Okay Pastor, I got rid of all the hypocrites... Now you may begin your service. Have a nice day!" And the two men turned and walked out. |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by nOrKAy on Jul 31st, 2006, 6:28am An Affirmation of Faith One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of life there was only one set of footprints in the sand. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, you said that once I decided to follow You, You'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed You most, You would leave me." The Lord replied, "My son, my precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you." - Author Unknown This is my favorite poem! It is so true! Not only He's there when we need Him most, but He holds, carry us and comforts us!-- if we let Him. |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by Kitch on Aug 6th, 2006, 6:39am Inspiring life event: Several years back, I met a person on line in one of the Nepal rooms it was her first time on line. A very beautiful woman from Mexico who was in school to become a lawyer. After the first conversation we became good friends talking about many things. We spent many times talking she spent most of her time however, Studying and working in a law office what seldom free time she had from these two activities She spent time in the Gym doing Ty-bo. She claimed to be Christian but it really wasn't a large part of her life. Earlier this year she came to me with a problem The doctors told her she has Roscea A skin condition causing large red blotches upon her skin. Since she is a very beautiful woman this was quite tramatic to her, feeling that her life was over. She had to give up her Ty-bo her favorite foods, and started to constantly worry on how bad her face was. She wanted to talk get advice and emotional support. Spoke several hours a night for several days. Yet the theme of the advice I only could give her is go to the Lord in prayer and know that God has allowed this to happen for a reason. So as a friend I took her name in prayer and she spent a lot of time herself in prayer as well did her parents. I didn't hear for her a week I was getting worried about her, Then one day she appeared on line of course I had to ask how she was doing. She told me that she had found her a relationship with the Lord and the more she prayed to him about the problem the closer she felt and the more joy she felt about the problem. She joined a world wide chat group with people with the same condition, and has been giving Testamony to christ to people in parts of the world who don't know the Love of Christ. From talking to a girl in the Ukraine telling her about Christ and his power, the Ukraine girl had to go somewhere and her face was bothering her real bad one day and it was a day of bad weather. Severly irritating her skin Condition, The girl stopped and made a simple prayer to Jesus my friend on line Mary told me about you if you are God can you help me and clear my face. The girl walked on to her destination and by the time she got where her friends were. Her friends asked her what she did to her face assuming the worst she looked in a mirror and her face was completely clear like baby skin. She also had met a man from Turkey and gave her witness about Jesus, the man in turkey had lost his girlfriend due to his facial condition and was having trouble working and doing the things that he wanted to do. He was feeling lonely and distrot and went to Jesus about his girlfriend and his loneliness because of this condition. He asked if Jesus could restore his relationship and the Lord seem fit to do so. Now this individual in Turkey's life is on the line however to convert from Islam to another religion in a Muslim country is punishable by death. She came on line and told me of these events of late, and asked me why people she talked to were healled and she was not? Is there something more she has to learn or do? The only advice I could give her, you have grown closer to the Lord your leading people to the Lord your serving God in a way you would not have with out the condition. God may heal you he may not but all we can do is serve God and bring him glory. Being closer to God is more important then a physical appearance. Something we all need to remember and sometimes God uses something that is tramatic to us to get us to figure it out. |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by Kitch on Aug 11th, 2006, 8:59am Heard a story of brotherly love: there is a Missionary organization by the name of world Vision the person who started had a heart for people in third world countries near the end of his life Bob went to see one of the places he help to fund missions to Bob help to create. He had severe case of Lukima and was chronically in pain and wanted to see what God had used him for. He went to a mission in Borneo to meet up with one of his missionaries, while getting the tour of the Mission and all the things that it had accomplished he notices a young teenage girl laying on a reed mat laying by the river. Bob asked the Missionary why the girl was there. The Missionary stated the girl had terminal cancer, Bob was horrified that she was on the mat an not in a hospital. The missionary explainned the girl refused to remain in the hospital knowing her condition was terminal so she wanted her last visions to be of the river and jungle she called home. Bob went over to the girl placed his hand on her forehead and began to pray for her. After he finished praying the girl said something in her native language Bob could not understand. He asked the Missionary what did she say the Missionary said she says she wishes she could just sleep one more time before she dies. The pain from her Cancer was so much the girl could not sleep. Bob gave the missionary some sleeping pills and said make sure that she gets a good night sleep every night til these runs out. Bob could relate with the girl cause from his condition he could not sleep with out the pills from the shear pain. Bob had to wait 10 days to get replacements and was well aware of that. However if we give a drink of Cold water in the name of Christ we have giving it to Christ. Even small sacrafices on our behave can be major gifts for someone else |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by nOrKAy on Aug 22nd, 2006, 6:11am A very inspiring, encouraging e-mail I got , from my cousin, Gelyn. UNEMPLOYED GRADUATE An unemployed graduate woke up one morning and checked his pocket. All he had left was $10. He decided to use it to buy food and then wait for death as he was too proud to go begging. He was frustrated as he could find no job, and nobody was ready to help him. He bought food and as he sat down to eat, an old man and two little children came along and asked him to help them with food as they had not eaten for almost a week. He looked at them. They were so lean that he could see their bones coming out. Their eyes had gone into the socket. With the last bit of compassion he had, he gave them the food. The old man and children prayed that God would bless and prosper him and then gave him a very old coin. The young graduate said to them "you need the prayer more than I do". With no money, no job, no food, the young graduate went under the bridge to rest and wait for death. As he was about to sleep, he saw an old newspaper on the ground. He picked it up, and suddenly he saw an ad vertisement for people with old coins to come to a certain address. He decided to go there with the old coin the old man gave him. On getting to the place, he gave the proprietor the coin. The proprietor screamed, brought out a big book and showed the young graduate a photograph. This same old coin was worth 3 million dollars. The young graduate was overjoyed as the proprietor gave him a bank draft for 3 million dollars within an hour. He collected the Bank Draft and went in search of the old man and little children. By the time he got to where he left them eating, they had gone. He asked the owner of the canteen if he knew them. He said no but they left a note for you. He quickly opened the note thinking it would lead him to find them. This is what the note said: You gave us your all and we have rewarded you back with the coin. Signed: God the Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost. 1 Kings 17:10-16; Matthew 11:28-30 |

Title: Re: Spiritual Stories,Poems,Testimonies.... Post by Wicked_Witch on Jan 31st, 2007, 4:43am They say there are no mistakes, for everything there is a purpose. Makes you think. We'll never know where our paths will take us! This is really beautiful...God is not sleeping. Consumed by my loss, I didn't notice the hardness of the pew where I sat. I was at the funeral of my dearest friend -- my mother. She finally had lost her long battle with cancer. The hurt was so intense; I found it hard to breathe at times. Always supportive, Mother clapped loudest at my school plays, held a box of tissues while listening to my first heartbreak, comforted me at my father's death, encouraged me in college, and prayed for me my entire life. When mother's illness was diagnosed, my sister had a new baby and my brother had recently married his childhood sweetheart, so it fell on me, the 27-year-old middle child without entanglements, to take care of her. I counted it an honor. "What now, Lord?" I asked sitting in church. My life stretched out before me as an empty abyss. My brother sat stoically with his face toward the cross while clutching his wife's hand. My sister sat slumped against her husband's shoulder, his arms around her as she cradled their child. All so deeply grieving, no one noticed I sat alone. My place had been with our mother, preparing her meals, helping her walk, taking her to the doctor, seeing to her medication, reading the Bible together. Now she was with the Lord. My work was finished, and I was alone. I heard a door open and slam shut at the back of the church. Quick footsteps hurried along the carpeted floor. An exasperated young man looked around briefly and then sat next to me. He folded his hands and placed them on his lap. His eyes were brimming with tears. He began to sniffle. "I'm late," he explained, though no explanation was necessary. After several eulogies, he leaned over and commented, "Why do they keep calling Mary by the name of 'Margaret?'" Because that was her name, Margaret. Never Mary. No one called her 'Mary,'" I whispered. I wondered why this person couldn't have sat on the other side of the church He interrupted my grieving with his tears and fidgeting. Who was this stranger anyway? No, that isn't correct," he insisted, as several people glanced over at us whispering, "Her name is Mary, Mary Peters." That isn't who this is." Isn't this the Lutheran church?" No, the Lutheran church is across the street. " Oh." I believe you're at the wron g funeral, Sir." The solemnness of the occasion mixed with the realization of the man's mistake bubbled up inside me and came out as laughter. I cupped my hands over my face, hoping it would be interpreted as sobs. The creaking pew gave me away. Sharp looks from other mourners only made the situation seem more hilarious. I peeked at the bewildered, misguided man seated beside me. He was laughing, too, as he glanced around, deciding it was too late for an uneventful exit. I imagined Mother laughing. At the final "Amen," we darted out a door and into the parking lot. "I do believe we'll be the talk of the town," he smiled. He said his name was Rick and since he had missed his aunt's funeral, asked me out for a cup of coffee. That afternoon began a lifelong journey for me with this man who attended the wrong funeral, but was in the right place. A year after our meeting, we were married at a country church where he was the assistant pastor. This time we both arrived at the same church, right on time. In my time of sorrow, God gave me laughter. In place of loneliness, God gave me love. This past June we celebrated our twenty-second wedding anniversary. Whenever anyone asks us how we met, Rick tells them, "Her mother and my Aunt Mary introduced us, and it's truly a match made in heaven." Jesus said, "If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before my Father God. He is my source of existence and Savior. He keeps me functioning each and everyday. Without Him, I would be nothing. Without him, I am nothing, but with Him I can do all things, through Christ that strengthens me. (Phil. 4:13) |
