If you spent any time watching Trinity Broadcasting Network you have heard the health, wealth, and prosperity gospel. From Benny Hinn to Osteen, and numerous others that would take me months to name them all. Let’s start with the first problem that I have heard from their teachings. Even though they run through it quickly, I assume so the true believer won’t catch it. They will equate Jesus and the Holy Ghost as being the same. As true Christians we know that God the Father, Jesus, and Holy Ghost. Are eternally distinct but they are God. If you try to explain the trinity it could make you go crazy, but explain it way you will lose your soul. There are countless verses in the bible pointing the God ship of God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost. Wilmington’s Guide to the Bible pg 595 quoting C.C. Ryrie: “There is only one God, but in the Unity of the Godhead there are three eternal and co-equal Persons, the same in substance, but distinct in subsistence.” A way to think of the Trinity of the God head is as you would think of dimensions like for example of a book height width and length the 3 can’t be separated from the dimension of the book however they are not the same however of course God is much more complicated, then a book. John 1:14, John 14:16,26 and John 15:26.

You also will hear some of these teachers say after the Cross Jesus went down in the bowels of hell and wrestled the keys of death away from the Devil. John 19:30 Just before Christ died upon the cross he uttered it is finished. Luke 23:45 talks about the curtain in the temple being torn top to bottom. This curtain is very important, in the tabernacle behind the curtain was the holy of holies, where only the high priest once a year could enter it because it was felt that is where God would reside in the tabernacle and when it was torn it signified the end of the separation between God and man. The Cross was hell for hell is separation from the Father and on the Cross Christ was for the first time separated from his father. We actually know that after the Cross went to God the Father in heaven. Luke 23:46 and Luke 23:42-43. They will say no if you read John 19:17 you see Jesus hadn’t returned to the Father, however I believe that when Mary Realized to Jesus was Jesus that she grappled a hold of him. So Jesus was reassuring her that he wasn’t gone for good yet. Especially when you read the surrounding text cause then he directs her to tell the others. Knowing how someone would react to see someone they assumed to be dead for good what type of reaction they would get.

Another thing you will hear them say is that Christians can be processed by demons. We have several examples of the bible of people being processed but none were followers of Christ. Demon procession is when a demon takes control of your body, causing you to do things that you would regret. When you become a Christian, you acknowledge Christ as Lord and savior. Then the Holy Spirit enters your heart. (Biblically heart is a part of the mind not the organ in your chest) Acts 1:5 And if you are a Christian and the Holy spirit is in your heart, then you can turn to Matt 12:29 because the devil can’t go in tie up the Holy Ghost and take control of you. If you are a child of God you can’t be processed by the Devil or Demons. A demon over powering God would be like trying to cut into a tank with a butter knife.

Now for the main bulk of their teaching, that if you say that you want something you will get it as long as you have tithed, and giving to the church. The more you give the more you will get. This is actually a pagan concept that they have managed to cloth to make to look like Christian Dogma. They will use verses like. Galatians 6:7, James 4:2, 1st Timothy 6:16-17. And many more. They use most of these verses out of context for example the 1st Timothy verse was a common way to close a letter in the Greco roman world. You have to remember that these are letters. All through the bible teaches that you have afflictions and chastisement for correction. Psalms 118:18, 1st Corinthians, 11:32 Matthew 6:21, Matthew 12,35, and Matthew 19:21. We save treasure for heaven, not for earth. Matthew 16:24 we are to take up the cross and follow Christ and the cross is not a minor thing. The only time in the bible it appears that something was spoken into being was in Genesis when God spoke the universe into existence. Words are not the power of Faith but our Faith in God should reflect our words.

You will see a lot of alleged miracle healings on for example the Benny Hinn show, however everyone has been proven to be fraud when asked to present the best examples of healings he shows x rayed of a man with cancer in his leg and then one with out it in the mans leg with research the person found out that the cancer had been removed by a surgeon. I believe God does heal people, but in the bible it was never recorded happening in a service. I won’t deny its possibility, however to claim a fake healing to me is not just lying but gives people false hope. Disabilities, maybe used by the Lord to serve him, just ask Johnny Sintata. Who in her handicap has ministered to millions. As Christians we are called to be salt and light to the world to show God to the rest of the world not to get what will make us happy.
