Title: Depressed?  Get Married!
Post by ReeBop on Sep 14th, 2007, 6:09pm
I saw this article on LiveScience that changes the way psychologists look at depression and relationships.

http://www.livescience.com/health/070604_depressed_married.html

It was generally known that depressed people entering into a marriage could create problems for the match to succeed.  Not so according to researchers.  This new study has found quite the opposite and that depressed people getting married actually became much happier people.  The question therefore is "why?".  The researchers have concluded that “The depressed benefit more from a transition into marriage despite their having, on average, worse marital quality.”

Let the discussion begin!

Your kidding, right Ree? Heck, there are lots of broken marriages for that article to be credible. [smiley=roll.gif] [smiley=roll.gif] [smiley=roll.gif] Aside from your partner, you are going to have troubles with in-laws, too! [smiley=roll.gif] [smiley=roll.gif] [smiley=roll.gif]

Hey, I'm not the one joking.  This was actual research done.  You are absolutely right about in-laws though.  They don't mention them in the article at all!

Depressed? Get Married! Why not? If there's anyone who will risk his life to a depressed person and that being a depressed person herself is still adventurous of her future..  Being alone and depressed make life doubly miserable but once you get married, depression will ease up simply because you already have someone whom you can share your depression with or worst your sole outlet for release.  It could also be that whatever be the cause of her depression might be put behind because new problems will pop up and who knows by this time...she wants to consider it as a challenge.  Opps...am I talking hyperbole? Nyahahahaha!

Oh, that's right, Capu, at first I thought it was you who got married last year. I remember it was Nathy. Anyway, I don't think depress people should get married. Their partner is sure to contact the "disease" of being depressed. Hehehe!

[my harsh expression here] Normally thinking, I don't agree with the "get married" sulution there. Having said that, I actually wanted to do it and was almost there, but what ........the rest is.........oh never mind, not worth spending time telling about it.  :P

I disagree on this...if you get depress don't get married.  Once you get married  it everything changes.  If I get depressed I work on my hobbies/crafts not married though.   They will get more depress if the marriage doesn't work out.
