Yesterday the Philippine marine corps got us all in a frenzy with the news that their Commandant has been relieved and that a Junior officer (Col. Quirubin) was protesting against move. Prior to this incident there was news about a coup attempt that would be led by several army rangers and marine soldiers.

Do you think that both incidents are connected? Or are they two different things?

I think GMA just want to be sure that she has a very "loyal" commandant at her disposal. I am not saying that the previous commandant is not loyal but just he can be easily swayed. And she needs and want somebody who would be "firm" in obeying orders from her. It would not surpise me if this "retired" commandant will be given a more lucrative post in the future. Some nice "benifits" are included in the forced retirement, I'm sure.

Gen. Mendoza did not retire. He is on a 1 month leave and it will be up to the FOIC to assign him in some other place. He was invited for an investigation because there were intel reports that he is somehow involved in the coup plot but before they had the chance to kick him out he "requested" to be relieved since it would be more dignified.

I too think that GMA was behind the removal of Gen. Meranda. ALthough Malacanang's offical stand is that they do not have and idea what so ever with whats going on in the AFP. Because they say that it is not the prerogative of the president to assign or remove any of the officials.

Heck if i was GMA n i found this out i'd have him kicked out of the force. Provided that all teh infos that was given to me are all true.

THe military has no business medling with politics. It is not their duty. Their duty is to protect the people, follow the constitution and to protect the duely constituted autority where in in this case that would be GMA. THey may not like GMA but their duty is to protect and to follow whomever in seated. I respect the sentiments of out dear marines. But it is so scary just to think that if we cannot trust them to be loyal then who else can we trust?

That's supposed to be the oath they have taken when they were swore in, but you know our system is a big mess. They give their loyalties to whomever they think deserves it. Some has personal interests, the others are torn between loyalty and righteousness. They no longer adhere to "Obey first before you complain" slogan. Lots of them has been radically changed now, even forming their own group. This is sad because they are confusing the whole citezenry.
