Title: Eyesight: How Important Is It To You?
Post by mylane on Jan 4th, 2004, 1:17am
Do you see your doctor and check your eyes semi/annually?

So,what's your view about the eye care awareness?

eyesight is very important to me especially now that my grade increases yearly.  i have my eyes checked up once a year mylene...and i changed my lenses once every two year...its not doctors advice but my choice coz not only its expensive but it helps minimize the increase.
i've been eating carrots lately it helps decrease the grade they said..

I used to wear contact lenses but my Optometrist told me that I should stop wearing them because I dont blink as often as I should and consequently making my eyes dry.

I remember in my Ophthalmology lectures, one of my professors said that the only thing you can put in your eyes is your elbow. Kind of a clever way of putting that you can't put anything at all in your eyes as its a very delicate organ.

Well Chelle I used to think that shortsightedness happends to others but not me until I had constant headache and blurry vision while reading . Thats when i stopped and think how imperfect I was. Yes it gets very frustrating at first when you are not able to make out what that small fonts all about on your screen. I suddenly felt handicapped. My eyesight was soooooo purfect and overnite it went blur on me  [smiley=bigcry.gif] I hate the idea of having an alien object in my eye hence contact lense is a definite NO. Eventually I succumbed to the idea of wearing that dreaded piece of glass over my sexy eyes but hey who said glasses make you look nerdy? I look super hot like sex goddess from hell and yet looking cool and intelligent hehe.  8)

I gonna get lasik next year. I have contacts and glasses and I am sick of it. When I go on vacation I gotta take contacts, sunglasses, perscription glasses, persription sunglasses, plus all the contact cleaner and solutions. To much to keep up with. Lasik has finally been approved for coverage on my insurance.

Hey beast have you tried the prescription glasses which changes its shade in different lighting? It is so cool looking too. so all you need is just one pair of glasses which also performs as a prescription sunglasses at different brightness of the area. Cant remember whats the name of brand which produces those type of glasses tho.  :P

Eyes are windows to the soul.  It's important to care for our eyes. As we use it to go by with our daily lives.  I can't imagine life without seeing colors, the beauty of things.  I have been wearing glasses since my highschool days so I'm quite a veteran so to speak heheh... But have been using contact lenses since college.  Lately I have gone back to wearing eyeglasses after years of wearing contact lenses non-stop.  I used the disposable contact lenses so I did'nt need to fuss about cleaning and soaking and stuff.  Just throw them away!  But alas I wanted to rest my eyes from those lenses and go back to basics.  Good ole ELLE specatcles which, thank goodness, does'nt make me so nerdy LOL.

Those kind of glasses are called transitions and yes i have them that is what i wear now,  but they are not very good as sunglasses. they dont get dark enough for me. I am so ready for my lasik surgery. I will go in a few weeks to get a checkup to see if my eyes are capable of doing the procedure. There is a Dr. Booth here in the dallas area that does all the procedures for the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and Texas Rangers. Those are pro football, basketball and baseball players. Hell if those dudes are trustworthy of it, I am not as worried about doing it. I still kind of nervous about doing it though.

Yes both my sister and brother have had it done as well. But I just dont like the idea of someone messing with my eyes. They have a new procedure called intra lasik thats a better procedure than plain lasik. Its more accurate and the healing time is shorter. Thats what i want to see if I am able to get.  ;D http://www.boothelasercenter.com/?source=avx

Joel,

Sounds like this Doctor is pretty good. I know how you feel about people doing procedures that can go wrong. I would however ask to Double Check if the very experienced Dr (that all the Pro's go to) is actually the Dr that's the one that proforms the procedure, because some time they are not. I would make sure of just who is doing what.

tunatinaaaaaaaaaa ;D
l got stigmatism too... l kept scratching my eyes too b4 n blink alot but it was because my eyes got allergy to the dust...
took loooong time to find out bout my allergy, thru several tests etc... thats why l always bring the eye drops long time ago when l use my contact lenses cuz l blink alot n it made my eyes dry.
But true... my doc said for stigmatism n my allergyc, l better use glasses instead of lenses, but here l am... not using both, what a lazy bum 8) lol

Dale...I have been looking into this for years. I am familiar with all the physcians in the Dallas area. Its time for me to bite the bullet and do it.

I went to a seminar held at the Carter Eye Clinic in Dallas on Thursday. There were about 50 people there. Most of them were older than me. I would say about in the 50 to 60 age range. They were there because of a relatively new procedure called Crystalens. Now this is a pretty cool sounding kind of deal. It fixes everything. Nearsightness, farsightness, you will never have to have surgery for cataracts, it fixes presbyopia, which everyone gets sooner or later after the age of 40 and have to start wearing reading glasses. Crystalens is a surgery where they attach a lens to your muscles in your eye socket. And with time your muscles learn to control this lens. Its all real cool but they recomend it only on patients above the age of 40 and also right now it cost about $5000.00 per eye. I am only 34 years old but I still like the idea of doing this..but then I not to thrilled about the 10 thousand plus for the surgery. lol I will opt to get some kind of lasik done. I have an appointment to get a survey of my eyes in November. Its funny how they can take a term or phrase and use it in a different way. Have you heard of HIGH DEFINITION. Well its a term used in the way you can recieve a signal on TV. It makes for a great picture. I have it with my Dish at home. Well guess what.... now they are advertising HIGH DEFINITION SIGHT in the Dallas area. lol Its just funny how these people promote things to me.

If you go for Lasik, don't go to a cheap place and pay $500 per eye because you may get what you pay for.  Your vision is not something to mess around with.  I have relatives who spent a lot more money on a reputable doctor and they now have perfect vision.  I would do it if I had the money.  It's worth it...I'd love to be able to get up and see the time w/out having to put my face an inch away from the alarm. lol

Its not cheap but it is cheaper than it was if you got lasik done about 5 years ago. There are certain kind of plans you get a choice from. This particular physician I am seeing offers basic plan, a middle of the road plan and the plan that I chose called the high definition. The only thing that is different between all these plans is follow up procedures if needed. I pick the most comprehensive plan which isnt cheap. Plus my insurance is taking care of about half of it. I have researched for about 4 years now. LOL Its time to get it done. The Doctor who is doing my eyes has done Troy Aikman and  Daryl Johnston, which are probably 2 hall of fame football players from the Dallas Cowboys, and lots of other sports and performing personalities. The 2 big guys in the Dallas area are Booth and Carter. I went to see Booth last year and while I am sure he is knowledgeable and good at what he does.... he just does so many of the procedures it makes you kind of fell like your are in some kind of assembly line. Kind of like Zap.....next patient please...Zap...next patient please...Zap...next patient please. So I went with Dr. Carter. I have my surgery on the 13th of January this coming Friday. Going to  get my perscriptions today. There are a lot of different kinds of eye drops you use before and after the surgery. I will have to wear these shields on my eys at night when i sleep so to prevent me from scratching my eyes. U are not supposed to even touch your eyes for like a week or 2 after the surgery because your eyes are still healing. Anyway I am looking forward to a life without glasses or contacts.

Thank you Tina and Kamie...I had my 2 week followup yesterday...I see 20/15 in my right eye and 20/20 in my left eye. It is so nice to wake in the morning and be able to look at the alarm clock that is in my bathroom, which is about 25 feet away and see it clearly. My eyes are still dry but not as much as they were. They are still healing and I need lots of eyedrops to lubricate them. When youre eyes are dry they water automatically...I always had dry eyes and I not think my eyes are watering like they used to. I talk to others who have the same problem so I imagine I will be using these eye drops forever and thats okay with me. I gotten real good at dropping these drops in my eyes. I can even do it when I am laying in bed in the dark. I will have another appointment in about 4 weeks and they are telling me my vision will even get better.
