Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Mar 16th, 2004, 7:26pm Ripley's Game *John Malkovich Malkovich plays Tom Ripley, the suave sociopath. This is supposed to the sequel of The Talented Mr. Ripley (Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow) some 30 years later. As usual Malkovich is debonair but the movie lacked the intensity of The Talented... Duplex *Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore Candy-floss. School of Rock *Jack Black I like Jack Black since I laid eyes on him in High Fidelity (John Cusack) This movie is a surprise in a sense that it managed to make Jack Black appear cute in his role. I like movies which talk about music a lot. I guess I enjoyed this one. Gothika *Halle Berry, Penelope Cruz, Robert Downey, Jr. The movie manages to capture your interest til the very end cos you are left there wondering what is really going on. It has a few shriek moments but not really scary. However, I think it managed to crack up towards the end, serving some lame dialogues. I would have wanted a better ending. Cold Mountain *Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellwegger, Jude Law The story was a bit winded but it had a story to tell. I love Rene Zellwegger in this one. As usual, she is perky and funny. Nicole is so glamorous and Jude Law looked old. LOL. But its a good story and it sticks in your mind long after you finished watching it. I guess I liked it but I dont want to watch it again. Lost in Translation *Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson I kept on looking for the range that Bill Murray they said had exuded but I didnt see it. Maybe thats the brilliance of this film because it managed to capture boredom. Bill played a bored tourist very well. The scenes are unforgettable and crisp. |

I just bought the DVD of this one after being convinced by my good friend that its really funny. It has its funny moments but the concept of having 12 kids is totally alien even to an Asian like me. Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Apr 4th, 2004, 4:17am Out Of Time Denzel Washington This story has surprising twists it actually glued me to my seat to see how it will turn out. I just didnt expect Denzel Washington in this kind of B movie, afterall he is one great dramatic actor. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Apr 9th, 2004, 4:50pm Uptown Girls Brittany Murphy, Dakota Fanning, Heather Locklear Brittany Murphy (Tai of Clueless) portrays the daughter of a deceased rock star who had to learn how to earn a living after her accountant stole her inheritance. Dakota Fanning portrays a precocious hypochondriac 8 year old obsessed with ballet. When fate brought them together, the interlacing of Murphy's portrayal of ineptitude and Fanning's supercilious attitude resulted in a very interesting film. The film also made use of a lot of music that were familiar and new ones that were quite catchy. And the song "Molly Smiles" is quite heartwarming. Charming film, really. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Apr 27th, 2004, 6:08pm Stuck On You Matt Damon, Greg Kinnear, Cher, Meryl Streep Few minutes into the movie, I wanted to turn it off but since I rented it and wasnt doing anything particularly important, I sat through the whole movie bored. It didnt even attempt to make "believable" scenes. For instance, the conjoined twins were separated physically by: a bus door and a prison door. If they shared a liver in that particular area where they are conjoined, I think it would be a medical emergency when a heavy iron prison door clamps shut in that area....or a bus door for that matter. This movie has no redeeming points, save your money by not renting it. So I'm giving it ---- :( :( :( |

Confidential Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kim Basinger, Danny DeVito This film-noire set in the 50s showcased the most talented group of actors playing policemen in the Los Angeles area. This screenplay adaptation of an Ellroy novel is a seedy, twisted and cynical movie about the men in the force drawn morally together by a crime investigation. As the movie goes along, each character is stripped layer by layer until they each learn why they became a cop in the first place. Beautifully scripted and portrayed, LA Confidential is a throbbing drama-suspense worth warming your couch on a late-evening weekday relaxation. Its a ---- ;D ;D ;D |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on May 8th, 2004, 9:27am Mystic River Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon, Marcia Gay Harden, Laurence Fishburn, Laura Linney Three childhood friends (Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon) who fell apart by a crime became reunited by a crime but for all the wrong reasons. The movie starts off with the heart-wrenching crime done on 11 year old Dave in the hands of pedophiles. Fast forward some 30 years later and you will see Dave (Tim Robbins) coming home at 3am all covered in someone else's blood. The next morning news breakout that Jimmy's (Sean Penn) daughter was brutally murdered. Dave's behavior became erratic, to the point of breaking. The movie is excruciatingly and deliberately slow. The audience is left thinking whether Dave killed Jimmy's daughter. All the while though, I ruminated why Dave snapped some 30 years later and not before. There is a certain quietness about the movie. The ending too is almost anti-climactic but over all, I like the film. Its good. I dont question why Sean Penn won the Best Actor Award in the Oscars for this one. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on May 12th, 2004, 5:52pm Kill Bill vol. 1 Uma Thurman, Daryl Hannah, Michael Madsen, Lucy Liu, Viveca Fox, David Carradine I've seen this movie a long time ago in the theatres. But when I got a call from my favorite DVD shop that a copy was available, I went and got one. I'm not surprised that most people I work with hate this movie because of its violence. I admit, at first, I was horrified at the blatant disregard for the worthiness of life. But hey, thats Hollywood. This movie defies reason. While some movies go forward to tell the story, this movie plunges backward leaving the audience knowledgeable of what happened but not how it happened. This is typical Quentin Tarantino. I call it the "cut and paste" style. However, QT's depth of creativity amazes me. Another point why this movie defies reason: After 4 years, Sofie Fatale still sport the same ringing tone for her cellphone. I dont know, she probably like Auld Lang Syne too much. When The Bride woke up from a coma, she was muttering "4 years, 4 years" How would she know she's been in a coma for 4 years? Most patients who have been staying in the hospital for a week would be disoriented to time. How much more a coma patient? Another reason defying moment: When she woke up she wasnt able to walk (atrophy of disuse is the correct term and not entropy as the movie implied) but she had such upper body strength makes any wrestler fan proud. And the blood spurts. The shower of red gore splashing everywhere is every criminalist's nightmare. I had a gleeful thought about CSI people covering the crime scenes and having a frenzied day! This movie, despite its shameless irascibility and violence, is a brilliant QT. I guess , the secret to enjoying a QT film is to sit back, enjoy the artistry and nevermind reason. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Jun 4th, 2004, 5:25am Along Came Polly Ben Stiller, Jennifer Aniston, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Hank Azaria, Debra Messing, Alec Baldwin The reason why I like Ben Stiller's characters in all the movies that he starred in is because of his consistency and almost stereotypical casting of an early 30s guy with a decent career and with an almost indecent badluck at relationships. Ben Stiller's portrayal of an underdog-slash-kindhearted-slash-baffled borderline metrosexual almost always make me laugh so hard that if I was drinking soda, it would come out as a bubble through my nose. Along Came Polly is a funny movie about Reuben Feffer (Stiller), an uber-cautious guy who caught his wife, Lisa (Messing) having sex with a french nudist scuba instructor, Claude (Azaria) while they were on the first day of their honeymoon. With his world in chaos, Reuben went back to New York and attended an art exhibit with his bestfriend, Sandy Lyle (Hoffman) where he met Polly...Prince (Aniston). The rest they say is typical Stiller history with funny angst and predictable twists and turns. I like Jennifer Aniston but throughout the movie I half-expected Drew Barrymore to show up instead of her. I dont know why, but probably I have Drew pegged as someone who can be brilliant in playing a scatterbrained, bohemian, owner of a blind ferret, ethnic food lover, world traipsing, giddy blonde. My absolute favorite in this movie is Philip Seymour Hoffman. He has been my favorite for quite sometime now and I try never to miss any of his movies. He is a brilliant actor with a penchant for roles that call for a snotty, white, rich kid which he plays so well. I like this movie and there are really laugh out loud moments worth rewinding. ;D ;D ;D |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Jun 7th, 2004, 6:13pm Johnny English Rowan Atkinson, John Malkovich, Natalie Imbruglia Im not ashamed to admit it but I watch Mr. Bean. When this movie came out of the theatres, I wanted to watch it but thinking it would be sub-par, I decided to wait til it would come out on video so I could rent it. Last night, I did. I thought it was an evening where I didnt have to use my brain and well, I wasnt disappointed. This movie is a comedy of errors, typical Mr. Bean style only that HE talks. Its weird to see Mr. Bean talking but its not that bad either. I've always been a sucker for british accents. However this movie is totally not without some redeeming values. What it lacks for plot and good screen play, it makes up for some funny scenes that will really make you laugh out loud. I watched this last night with my cousin, Philip, and we were slapping back and forth at some inconceivably idiotic things Atkinson did. If you're looking for that subtle British humor that cracks you up, this isnt the movie to look for that in. Worst than mediocre, senseless, plotless, idiotic but LOL kind of movie---unless of course you're a true blue cinematic buff and you wouldnt want to be caught dead watching this movie. Overall? Its the company that made this movie worthwhile. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Jun 10th, 2004, 2:36pm Seabiscuit Jeff Bridges, Tobey Maguire, Chris Cooper A depression era real life story of a little horse that could. Documentary-like in some aspects with dazzling arrays of scenic rural America, Seabiscuit was a racehorse that embodied American hope in that most bewildering time of a great nation at the turn of the century. A symbol that brought 3 lives together---a millionaire (Jeff Bridges as CS Howard), a jockey (Tobey MacGuire as Red Pollard) and a horsewhisperer (Chris Cooper as Tom Smith) and filled them with hope, courage and the belief that dreams do come true. The movie started slowly, the build up was excruciating and painful but all worth it. A feel good, beautiful movie that inspires all of us. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Jun 13th, 2004, 5:25pm Filipinas Maricel Soriano, Richard Gomez, Armida Sigueon Reyna, Dawn Zulueta Yes, I do watch tagalog films. But not often. I hate it when the scene drags on and on which most directors have a penchant of. Filipinas is about family. They've been pushing that a lot lately. Movies with family values and morals that I feel like I'm sitting in a class and the subject topic is rammed down my throat. Filipinas is a last name of a prominent family. The matriarch, Flor (Reyna) is the only cohesive force that holds the disintegrating family. In the end, something bad has to happen to her to bring her children together. Typical? I thought so. The story is being narrated by Yolanda (Soriano), the eldest daughter of Flor, who played a very good role as a daughter nearing the end of her tether. She brought the audience into step by step, gradual chipping off of the individual persona of her siblings. As the whole story unfolds through her eyes, brick by brick she builds up into a massive balloon of resentment, bitterness and anger until she exploded. What happened was, her explosion was as lame as a tomato plant on a summer's day. I sat there, watched it and knew where it was heading. Totally predictable and chockful of pangaral. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Jul 11th, 2004, 9:27am Spiderman 2 Tobey Macguire, Kirsten Dunst, Alfred Molina, James Franco Oh, boy. I practically rubbed my hands together in anticipation of watching this much awaited sequel. I thought I would have to wait for the DVD copy when he and I couldnt synchronize our schedules. But we finally were able to watch it and both of us sat there dumbfounded at the spectacular scenes that unfolded infront of us. This has got to be the best movie I've seen this year besides LOTR: ROTK, of course. I won't go much into details as I know most of you have seen this movie but one word sums up Spiderman 2. CHOICE. In this sequel, a superhero is not only confounded with choices that will not only affect his personal life but also those who surrounds him. The choices that he had to make will of course, dictate the life he leads. Choices and destiny. Either way, its meant to be. I like that part when after saving the train he collapsed but the hands that held him gingerly placed him on the floor of the train and faceless voice remarked that he (Spiderman) is so young and is of the same age as his son. I call that scene "Demystifying A Superhero" --- when they realize he is human after all and there's really no mystery there. Kill Bill 2 Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah Right after we watched Spiderman, we queued for Kill Bill 2. I thought this movie would come in 3 volumes but I dont know what happened because the story ended pretty much on this second installment. Probably the reason why I enjoyed this movie was because it tied up all the loose ends. It brought some sort of closure for me and for Beatrix Kiddo. But the reason why I didnt enjoy the movie was because somehow, it became stale for me. The QT magic that was so present in volume 1 is nowhere to be found in volume 2. It has its wonderful moments though----when Beatrix, quick as a viper, gouge out Elle's remaining eye. I practically chortled in amusement despite the violence. I think thats the bloodthirsty in me coming out. But overall, I cringe at the scenes that depicted pain: When Beatrix kept punching the board til her knuckles bled and her hand paralyzed with pain. That was a "shiver" moment for me as well as the other body slammin', bone crunchin, bleed-bleed to death scenes. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Jul 13th, 2004, 7:43pm In The Line of Fire Clint Eastwood, John Malkovich, Rene Russo The reason why I bought this DVD was because John Malkovich is in it. I have an interesting fetish when it comes to John Malkovich (read blog) and when I viewed this film, I wasnt disappointed. John Malkovich played the would be assassin of the President of the United States and the protagonist was Clint Eastwood, playing an old, tired, almost down and out Secret Service Agent. The story was ordinary except that I think John Malkovich got the best speaking part while Clint Eastwood was delegated to corny cliches. The only thing that I hate about watching old movies such as this, is when you know a certain situation wouldnt happen like that anymore had it been filmed today. My point was, the sniper couldnt take a shot at John Malkovich cos Malkovich busted all the bulbs in the glass elevator. If only that happened now, I think the sniper would have been able to use heat sensor weapons and can take out the assassin in a flash. I'll only watch this film again only to hear John Malkovich speak. ;D |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Jul 16th, 2004, 5:06pm Shrek 2 voices of: Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, Julie Andrews My mother doesnt like Shrek because she thinks he is ugly but I was surprised that she watched it with me. The movie is funny and I'm just glad my mom was laughing along with me. I like the cat. I think he would be great with tomato salsa and downed with cold margarita. Here kitty kitty---- Trainspotting Ewan McGregor Memorable scenes with Ewan McGregor in the toilet looking for his opium suppositories and the struggle for the blanket and who gets to wash it. Big toilet humor on this one but basically, its about Scottish laddies addicted to heroin and the struggle to survive day by day with or without the drugs. There's a little kitten in this movie too. I think the little kitten should be slowly baked and garnished with parsley and roasted yellow fin potatoes. Hidalgo Viggo Mortensen Another story about a little horse that could. And this time, this little horse joined a race set in the middle east. The movie kicked off slowly but it picked up pace and I love the chemistry between Frank Hopkins (Mortensen) and his little painted horse, a mustang named Hidalgo. I love the movie, I love the adventure, I love the slight humor and the beautiful desert scenes although it reminded me too much of Lawrence of Arabia. This movie has cats too----big, ferocious kitties stuffed with lemon grass, onions, garlic and othe herbs and spices then skewered with long bamboo poles and slow roasted on open coals. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by thebeast on Aug 10th, 2004, 12:03am Last Sunday was great cuz it was John Wayne day on the American Movie Channel. I watched Eldorado a good western with Robert Mitchum and James Cain in it. I watched The Green Berets with Sulu from Star Trek in it. Sulu gets killed bout half way through the movie though. The Shootest was on. That was John Waynes last film before he died of lung cancer. It had Ron Howard, James Stewart, and of course the always bad cowboy Richard Boone. After that I watched what I think was the dukes best western "Red River". The red river is what seperates Texas from Oklahoma so it had some history in it. The last movie i watched was his best film of all called "In Harms Way" with Kirk Douglas in it. It was a very entertaining WW2 movie during the United States conflict in the Pacific. John Wayne is one of Americas most treasured actors. He was number one at the box office for a lot of years and he stared in a ton of movies and most of them were box office hits. Last sunday was a lay down on the couch and watch John Wayne all day for me. lol |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Aug 21st, 2004, 3:55am My Bestfriend's Wedding Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, Rupert Everett, Dermot Mulroney I've seen this movie a hundred times and although its not my favorite film (Notting Hill is) I still enjoy the scenes especially with the wonderfully flamboyant, Rupert Everett. I still wish I have a gay bestfriend. Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets Alan Rickman, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson Wonderful, wonderful British Accent. I just marvel at JK Rowling's creativity and imagination. Wow. Just to have a glimpse of her creativity would suffice for me. Although I have never read her books, and probably never will, I am satisfied with watching the movie. As my swee pea would say, "I'll never read the book because I'm very visual. The movie does the imagery for me." He has a point there. Oh I wish there are more Alan Rickman films. He's absolutely marvy! The Prince and Me Julia Stiles, Luke Malby Oh this movie had me twittering like a teener. I hate to admit it but I think I'm romantic and I like how this movie turned out. I think Luke Malby is yummy and I know its because of his European looks that get my panties in wad. I like the film, its essentially a modern day fairy tale. Julia Stiles play a pre-med student from Wisconsin and Luke Malby plays the crowned prince of Holland. European aristocracy meets American no-nonsense and we have romance! Taking Lives Angelina Jolie, Ethan Hawke, Oliver Martinez Angelina Jolie plays Illeana Scott, an FBI profiler, who was sent to Canada to profile a serial killer and help in his capture. While expounding more on this review would only give away the surprises, I can only say that this movie's attempts to surprise its audience is quite mediocre. Halfway through the movie, I knew who done it. Special treat for the guys: Angelina Jolie has a hot scene with Ethan Hawke and well, she was bare breasted throughout. There is something that I dont like in Angelina Jolie as an actress that I can't quite put a finger on. Its probably because to me, she has this perpetual sneer annd smugness on her face that makes her hardly credible as a protagonist. There's something like a coiled animalistic force inside her that she just cannot sit on while she acts to save her life. |

For one thing...too much use of that damn CGI.I almost wished they have never come out with that crap.Makes most movie companies lazy.Did the original exorcists have CGI?Hell no!The hyenas look so damn fake in this movie it makes Jaws look good. One thing George Lucas preached about (and he should take his own advice)...let the special effects be part of the movie not the movie itself.Grrrr.....The last time I saw a really good scary movie was 'The Ring".Cmon Hollywood!Stop being lazy.CGI is a fast and inexpensive way to make movies but sooner or later it will be no different than cartoons.I shudder to think what that Sky captain and the world of tommorrow is gonna be like. Its nothing but actors agaisnt a green screen.Grrrrr! >:( >:( >:( |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Aug 23rd, 2004, 1:19pm Chasing Liberty Mandy Moore, Mark Harmon Three words: Don't Ever Bother. Fifteen minutes into it and I got enough of spoiled US president's daughter trying to shake off her security force. At this day and age when every American is target for the terrorists? Get real. Shrieking Mandy Moore is not my taste too. I'd rather scratch a blackboard with my nails. A Night At The Roxbury Will Ferrel, Chris Kattan, Molly Shannon I know this movie reeked but to me this film is a brilliant SNL movie extension about two brothers, Steve and Doug Butabi (played by Kattan and Ferrel) whose ambition in life is to own a dance club. Met with rejection and shove offs at the entrance of some dance clubs, the clueless two shared a loving relationship that is hilariously pathetic and sickening. I love how the scenes were downplayed to the point of being "understated exaggerations" which are sooo downright funny. While irritating to some people, I love this film because I love to laugh and there are plenty here. Molly Shannon rocks. LOL. |

Very simple idea, clean, good script, good acting. They kept this one short...and it payed off. A very good movie. I also think there are alot of social issues intertwined with the two main characters. But I digress... I do however have one question... What did Bill Murray say to Scarlett Johansson at the end of the movie? Does anyone know? I turned up the volume the second time I watched it in a feeble attempt to listen in. I thought he said something like...."something something...I will always love you" Hmmm...I wanna know. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Aug 24th, 2004, 5:17am Monster's Ball Halle Berry, Billy Bob Thornton, Heath Ledger Halle Berry plays Leticia, whose husband was sentenced to death and Billy Bob Thornton plays a Corrections Officer. They both lived at opposite ends of the pole, Thornton with his racist father and on side of the law while Berry lived in a black community whose ties are on the opposite side of the law and whose house was foreclosed. The only common denominator that they had was Leticia's husband but that wasn't the factor that tied them together. The characters almost never met until one night, while walking home in a downpour, Berry's son was hit by a car. Left at the scene of the accident, it was Thornton who aided them and brought the boy to the hospital but it was too late. The boy died. Numbed with pain, Berry was brought home by Thornton and through that, their ties were forged. There is a very heavy sex scene between Berry and Thornton which was rightfully depicted as strong emotional neediness to feel anything but pain when going through personal tragedies. Berry with her husband electrocuted in prison and the sudden death of her son, and Thornton, whose son committed suicide right in front of him during a family spat. The mood of the story was dark and heavy filled with misery and pain but the message was clear. When tragedies struck, the burden of pain dissipates when shared. Berry and Thornton met at the right time, when they needed each other most. This is one film with a simple screenplay but exceptional acting abilities, hence, very unforgettable and rightfully deserving of the Best Actress Award for Berry. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Aug 29th, 2004, 6:58pm Dream For An Insomniac Ione Skye, Jennifer Aniston This charming little film rose quickly to the top of my Top 10 List of favorite movies with its dazzling display of love wisdom and for glorifying Sinatra. Any movie that refers to Sinatra couldnt be all that bad. Ione Sky is Frankie, an actress who has never slept more than 8 hours since she was 6 years old, when her parents tragically died. She was raised by her Uncle who owns "Blue Eyes Cafe" (in reverence to Sinatra) where she works when she wanted to. Frankie never "trusts a guy who doesn't have eyes like Sinatra" and when she met David, a fledgeling writer, sparks flew. David, who has difficulty in starting a book, made a deal with Frankie that he can make her sleep, while in turn, Frankie will help him find his inspiration to write. The attraction between the two was very apparent until David's girlfriend since highschool showed up. Frankie was turn into confusion and David, who apparently has lost all passion for his relationship, inadvertently revealed to Frankie that he can't leave his girlfriend as she's a good woman and he can't hurt her. With that, Frankie told David: Anything less than mad, passionate, extraordinary love is a complete waste of time. You will have to watch this film to see whether David chose passion or safety. |

Building up the suspense and then exploding near the end. Sadly, with Signs, the explosion becamed wilted because the suspense was long over drawn. Moonstruck Feel good movie with luminous Cher and young Nicolas Cage. The Stepford Wives Funny one-liners and witty comebacks. My swee pea and I couldnt stop laughing. Connie and Carla Showtunes! Toni Collette looked like an authentic drag queen. The Lizzie MacGuire Movie I like Hillary Duff's smile. Its very pretty. I like her better than Mandy Moore though. This is my mostest favoritest film of Philip Seymour Hoffman and I think he is really brilliant in this movie. DeNiro plays a homophobic cop who shared the same building apartment with Hoffman who plays a drag queen. You'd thought they'd never get along until DeNiro suffered a stroke and was advised to take singing lessons to improve his speech. After a long struggle, he finally went to Hoffman. You dont see much of Hoffman in the movies. Usually he is just content to play supporting role but wow! He really becomes the character he plays. As a drag queen he is so convincing and fascinating, as a snotty annoying rich kid in Talented Mr. Ripley, he is brilliant! I hope he gets more plum roles. |

However, I can barely recall DeNiro was ever in it. All I can remember is Christopher Walken in his best role ever. I love the theme too --Cavatina. This film is good! I've read somewhere that the difference between two great actors, Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro is that DeNiro becomes the character he plays, he is so ingrained with the role you forget he is DeNiro. But with Al Pacino, the character becomes him. The character gets a dash of that Pacino flair we all love so well---flamboyantly discreet and coiled. LOL. |

Take a simple story, present it artistically, put one of the powerhouses in Hollywood namely Sean Penn and add Benicio del Torro and we have arrived. Benicio del Torro plays an ex-con, father of two turned christian and Sean Penn, plays a character locked in a childless, loveless marriage who is waiting for a heart donor. The person that tied them together was Naomi Watts. The movie is reminiscent of Quentin Tarantino's cut and paste style of presenting a story minus the Tarantino touch of Tarantino's choice of music. While Benicio's story moves forward step by step, Sean Penn's story starts at the end and moves backward to the very beginning until the two characters' connection is presented about 2/3 way into the movie. The reason why I love this movie because there are just no words I can think of regarding how brilliantly talented Sean Penn is. He is really a studied art of perfection in his craft and I am glad to admit that I have 3 of his films on DVD: I Am Sam (wonderful tribute to Beatles), Mystic River (for which he won an Oscar Best Actor) and 21 Grams. Benicio del Torro is nothing to pass up too. He plays a very convincing man who felt betrayed by his faith and struggled mightily with guilt. At first I thought 21 grams alluded to cocaine, hence I put off watching it for a long time after the purchase. I was thinking, "Great! Another drug movie like Traffic. But I bought it anyway because I have faith in Sean Penn. After watching it, I realized I was wrong. This is not just another drug movie. Its a brilliant screenplay of connecting lives. 21 grams alludes to the amount of weight an individual loses when he dies. 21 grams of life, memories and experiences.Just 21 grams of existence, faith and soul. Excellent movie! |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by killerabbit on Sep 20th, 2004, 8:00pm Resident Evil:Apocalypse I loved the game when it first came out.I even liked the sequel.and the next one after that. But like with all sequels. The thrill fades. It didnt take that long for the thrill of the movie to fade. The first one wasnt all that and the sequel is less than that even. There seems to be this certain fad of all CGI and no story.Even worse, the action moves so fast,it leaves one with the feeling of vertigo.I didnt know what was going on until the action stopped. This is one of those wait til it comes out on dvd.Another irritating thing is that I heard a 4 year child in the theaters crying. There is a reason for ratings. To separate entertainment from the child to the adult.Pretty soon we are all gonna be stuck with cutesy movies rated "G" because somebody out there is going to say that Hollywood is irresponsible by influencing our children to these types of movies. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by TeaGirl on Oct 5th, 2004, 5:11pm The Breakfast Club Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy, Emilio Estevez, Paul Gleason This may not be the best movie ever made but this has been my all time favorite throughout the years. Directed and produced by John Hughes, the famous song by Simple Minds (Don't You) Forget About Me has become its signature song that almost always, when I hear it being played, I remember this movie. Set in Shermer Highschool in Illinois, the movie is about the coming together of 5 different representatives from different highschool strata on a Saturday, for Detention. Paul Gleason plays the teacher who may have not been too sensitive about teenage angst and hence, became the symbol of the oppressor. Ringwald plays the rich Prom Princess, Nelson plays the criminal wannabe, Hall plays the smart nerd, Estevez plays the sports jock and Sheedy plays the gothic basketcase chick. The chemistry between all characters is all apparent, the script is wonderfully written that it captures the audience from beginning to end. It has a dance montage and very funny but sometimes true to life lines. I guess my favorite scene was when Judd Nelson asked Paul Gleason tauntingly:"Does Barry Manilow know that your raid his closet?" I love this movie a lot and I wish I could own this on DVD. Other Movies I watched But Dont Have the Energy to Write a Review: Jan Dara - coming of age Thai film Basic Instinct - Uncut version. Never saw this movie as I was a med student back then when this came out. Had to see to know what the hoopla was all about....whoa! Man On Fire - had fun watching this is with my cousin. We were betting if the kid was alive. He won. Slow start though---sorta like building the rapport between Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. Chris Rock: Bigger and Blacker - Oooooooo funny, funny and funny. Whole 9 Yards - funny movie. Love Matthew Perry. Enough - J Lo is very likeable here and the child actress who played her daughter is such a very cute kid. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by thebeast on Oct 18th, 2004, 8:27am Well the weekend b4 last I saw Friday Night Lights with Billy Bob Thorton. This movie did not disapoint me. Although the book was better the movie was very good as well. It was the best movie on sports I have ever seen. It shows you the pressures that are put on lots of high school football programs. I only had one problem with this movie and it was the way it was shot in some scenes. Lots of this movie was shot the way an action scene is shot. Like in the first 15 minutes of Saving Private Ryan. But in the movie Friday Night Lights they would move the camera around a lot during just dialog scenes. It was kinda agrivating for me. I dont like the camera to move around a lot during the scenes when people are just talking. It takes a lot away from the characters and thier performence. It just dont seem to be a good way of shooting a scene to me. If there is lots of action going on thats cool to shoot it that way. In Friday Night Lights they did this when there was just a few characters talking. But its still a very good movie. Billy Bob as always gives performs outstanding. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by thebeast on Oct 18th, 2004, 8:44am This past weekend I got my high definition satellite service and dish set up. So I wathced lots of movies in high definition Saturday and Sunday. Everything You Wanted To Know About Sex and More- this is an old Woody Allen Movie. It has Tony Randal and Burt Reynolds in it. When I first saw this movie way back I thought it was funny, but now its just kinda stupid. Except for the last story in it. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly- starring Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and one of my favorite charcter actors Eli Wallach. Eli is a very good actor. This is a western and watching it in High Def was awesome. It was reproduced in high def so it wasnt as good as the new movies that are out there today, but it was still a very clear picture. Charlies Angels Full Throtle- I hated this movie. It was on HBO high def channel. But I could count the freckels on Lucy Lui's face. You cant do this on digital or regular tv. lol I have a monster channel that all the show is high def monster movies. Its pretty cool. I watch the Bride of Frankenstien. I think it was Frankenstein day on saturday cuz thats all they showed was Frankenstien movies all day. The best thing with the best picture on High Def has got to be the live sports. I watched a lot of football and baseball and the picture was outstanding. You can see the sweat dripping off the players. Its like you are there live in person watching the game. ;D |

A story which started with used books and ended in deep friendship. Envy Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Rachel Wiesz Eye-candy. Not really funny. Just the usual Jack Black flair and pinched expression of Ben Stiller about to crap a big load. Love Actually Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Laura Linney, Liam Neeson, Kiera Knightley, Alan Rickman, Billy Bob Thornton Story about 8 different relationships set in London weeks before Christmas. I love this film! It's my feel-good movie for Christmas. Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Thompson, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson I think this was the best HP among the series. Love it. The Hours Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep, Ed Harris, Miranda Richardson, Jeff Bridges Oh, the depth, the profoundness and the symbolism. I am only sorry it took me this long to see this film. Why did I wait so long? It was liberating to see the characters discuss at length life, death and the trivial things that we do instead. I am on a mission to find out more about Virginia Woolf and to read Mrs. Dalloway. Time is wasting! |

Damn I'm such a lousy story teller...yay. ;D How to lose a guy in 10 days - Kate Hudson and Matthew Mccoughney -Funny thing between this movie is that both of them got their own agenda of why they are dating each other. My deepest apologies, hun...I found this movie quite boring and I'm sorry if I'm not intellectual enough to grasp the depth of this so-called wonderful screenplay. However, I'd still watch Before Sunset, as I heard its actually livelier than this one. I'd give anything to see Paris with you. It entertains and somehow there is a story. Nice Plot. Beside Sean Connery is in the movie. He was a great actor. Underworld - Scott Speedman, Kate Beckinsale First movie of Scott Speedman that I saw, I always like him in Felicity as his character Ben. Well the movie is good but I don't like the ending. It mostly about the werewolf and the vampire. Protecting the vampire specie so they don't want mixed species like werewolfs and vampires. Its a combination of love story and action as well. Kate Beckensale outfit rocks. Dawn of the dead - Sarah Polly Its good. Since it got all my attention that I could almost forgot that I need to pee. Most of the scenes are breath taking. I'm gonna locked my windows from now on. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by mylane on Nov 22nd, 2004, 5:29am The Incredibles -Finally, I had a chance to watch the movie this weekend. Its a really good film. Very orginal story. Not only for kids but also for adults. Like tatay wabbit said the movie was presented in a very wonderful way. TROY - Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom I never been a fan of Brad Pitt but I will give him a perfect score in his portrayal as Achilles in this film. I'm so amaze with the large production of this film. I also admired, Eric Bana as Hector the prince of Troy, Well his movie THE HULK really sux, Eric Bana's performance in this film is really awesome. Orlando Bloom as Paris, he's a real coward in this movie, funny cause his been a good figther in THE LORD OF THE RING. The characters really gave life to the story. Now I need to review my greek mythology. The Return of the Jeda I think the last time I saw this film was 10 years ago, I'm still in the 4th grade. So happened that my cousin lend me a copy SPECIAL EDITION. Wow Harisson Ford was still young in this movie. My favorite characters are the EWOKS, they are really hella cute. Jennifer 8 - Andy Garcia, Uma Thurman The movie is good. Andy Garcia is really hot, his complexion OMG . Well, the movie is good thats all, especially the interrogation between John Malkovich and Andy Garcia. Uma played good in her blind woman role. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Nov 22nd, 2004, 8:50am Before Sunset Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy This movie is so much better than its predecessor, Before Sunrise. Celine and Jesse met again after 9 years in Paris, older and wiser. I was bored with Before Sunrise and I never thought I'd enjoy Before Sunset but I was in for a surprise. Strictly "conversation" with no action, camera tricks or any dazzling cinematography, I was able to appreciate the acting skills of Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke. Every nuances of expression and the fluidity of their conversation was so fascinating to look at. Clearly chemistry and magic were present in this film that I couldnt appreciate in Before Sunrise. I certainly could identify with the characters and their concern about life, marriage, career which had been philosphically expressed. The Sound of Music Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer A favorite for all time, I had the chance to watch it again together with my friend, Mimi's kids Lorraine and Minette. I loved watching the kids enjoying the songs and getting all bug-eyed. Cabaret Michael York, Joel Grey, Liza Minnelli I saw this film when I was a kid and couldn't remember anything except that I was bored. I watched it again over the weekend and I can't get enough of how good this movie was. Set in Germany in 1930's, when Hitler was on the rise and the Jews were beginning to be persecuted, Cabaret presented a lurid way of life for entertainers such as slightly delusional Sally Bowles (Minnelli) and Joel Grey and how easily money made their world go round. Entered Michael York as a clean-scrubbed, steadfast, English language tutor for the affluent, he was easily drawn to the joie de vivre of Sally. In the end, his love was not enough for Sally's dream of becoming an actress. The Gods Must Be Crazy N!xau I have seen this movie when I was a kid and enjoyed it very much. I'm glad I watched it again because it offered a refreshing view of comedy without the spectacular cinematography. Pure creativity and fun starring that lovable African bushman, N!xau who was puzzled why this tribe was given something [a coca-cola bottle thrown by pilot] that only created anger, envy and dissension. |

People change over time, you've got to expect that. The only way a relationship works is if people grow and change together. Lots of lesson to learn if you are a married person. Willis and Pfeiffer great combination, both are so appealing on the screen. The movie answered the question: YES it can survive. Big Fish- Ewan Mcgregor, Allan Finney Most men, they'll tell you a story straight true. It won't be complicated, but it won't be interesting either. I especially like the last scene of the movie between the father and the son. Touchy. The day after Tomorrow I always like a movie that involved science. I like it. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Dec 5th, 2004, 10:42pm Hero Jet Li, Maggie Cheung, Zhang Ziyi Think of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon but a step further. Stop. Because if anything, the flying figures and the drums are the only things that resonate from CTHD. Hero is a step further in that it is more philosophical, touching and breathtakingly beautiful with the colors of china. The director, Zhang Yimou was also fond of using contrasts. The calm and serenity of rain served as the background of furious sword play, and there's a scene where the still water was sliced by swords. Jet Li is Nameless, an assasin on a mission to kill the King of Qin, one of the 7 provinces in China. But in order to kill the king, he had to be within 10 paces of him as the lived within impenetrable rules. By some clever ruse, Nameless was able to do so, in a RASHOMON-esque way of telling his tale. I'm glad I own this on DVD so I can watch it over and over again. Next stop The House of Flying Daggers. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Dec 8th, 2004, 2:36pm Girl With A Pearl Earring Colin Firth, Scarlett Johansson Johansson is Griet, the girl who inspired the famous Dutch painter, Johannes Vermeer, played by Firth. She worked as a maid for the Vermeer household, amidst the brooding master, the jealous wife, the scheming mother in law, and the spiteful daughter, Cornelia. The colorful personas of each character made up for the drab Holland in the 1600's. Griet, showing an extraordinary understanding for her master's craft, became the center of his possessive wife's jealousy. It's a very simple story but interesting to note how painters mixed their colors before tubes were made available to them. I like Johansson in this role. She's one of those actresses who becomes the character to the very core. Believable in her craft and can really play wide-eyed innocence that escapes a few. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Jan 13th, 2005, 2:46am Annie Hall Woody Allen, Diane Keaton This has gotta be one of the best Woody Allen movie I've ever seen. I admit I am a huge fan of Woody Allen, with his neurosis and piquant one-liners, but I loved how this romance between Keaton and Allen evolved and fizzled out. Their chemistry was so believable! There were several laugh out loud moments but the poignancy that prevailed was what that got to me. Funniest line: I don't want to move to a city where the only cultural advantage is being able to make a right turn on a red light. Bedazzled Brendan Fraser, Elizabeth Hurley I am not really a fan of Brendan Fraser but this is one movie of his that I really enjoy and keep watching over and over again. I just love how wicked Liz Hurley was. Its a story about a nerdy guy who would do anything, including giving his soul to the devil, to be with the girl he loves. In comes Liz Hurley as the gorgeous Devil who was just as eager to give Elliot (Fraser) whatever he wished for, of course, with an outrageously funny catch! Funny Moment: Elliot: My SOUL?! You want me to give you my SOUL?! The Devil: What are you, James Brown? |

DeNiro plays a taxi driver, who, while driving driving the streets of New York at night, slowly disintigrated, taking upon himself to "save NYC and rid of it the scums," and tried to be a savior to an underaged prostitute named Iris, played by Jodie Foster. Tidbits: Aside from watching DeNiro acting brilliantly, this is probably the only movie which showcased the actor in a mohawk. There was a scene so reminiscent of Cape Fear but actually, if I saw Taxi Driver first, I'd think there was a scene in Cape Fear so reminiscent of Taxi Driver and that was DeNiro working out. Also, watch out for Martin Scorcese appearing in a scene as one of the taxi passengers. Famous Line, mimicked the world over: You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? You talkin' to me? |

This is a real good movie about a kid attending Julliard. Julliard is a popular school for the arts in NYC. Anyway, Ralph Macheo loves blues music and hooks up with an old blues man. They travel down to mississippi and try to get the old mans soul back from the devil. The old man sold his soul to the devil a long time ago. The story ties into the folklore legend of the great blues man Robert Johnson. Great Movie and Good music as well. I got the soundtrack on cd and still listen to it occassionally. |

Then again, how could they film that depraved hole? I've watched this film a few times, because i found it disturbing the first time i watched it and everytime it ends, i feel empty and sad... it's definitely one of the saddest, darkest films i've ever seen. The ending is one of the most evil things I have ever seen, mostly because it was disguised as being "happy" but you know that's not the way things will turn out. I sometimes think of this as being an "Anti-Revenge" film to a certain extent, she still gets raped and nothing will ever change that and the damage is all "irreversible".Nonetheless,it's a pretty good movie although the rape scene itself was almost too much for me. I was seriously disturbed for few days after watching it. |

Title: Re: ~~~~movies uv watched recently~~~~ Post by norkay on Feb 1st, 2005, 6:51am The 10th Kingdom I watched this before but couldn't remember the story anymore so i tried to recall it by watching it for the second time. Personally, i found it a bit too childish, though it had great potential. If anyone has read The Enchanted Forest trilogy by Patricia C. Wrede, it's a lot like that. I mean, it could have been awesome, the whole 'magical strings' in the forest idea was great. I know that it's a good children's movie, even if it did have some blood in it, but i just found it kind of a shame that they made a movie like that into something so childish. However, there were some really awesome parts, like the trolls chanting along to 'night fever' in the boat, or the same trolls who say all these stupid but hilarious things was good. At the beginning they annoyed me because they were too infantile, but it definitely got better towards the end.I really liked the whole mirror idea and how they were the roots of the queen's power. The idea of making her the mother was so random, though. I found it funnier than anything else that she ended up being virginia's mom. Also, I liked wolf. He was the coolest character in the movie.I liked the way he acted.I wonder if he's capable of playing a more serious character. |

Title: Re: ~~~~Movies UV Watched Recently~~~~ Post by teagirl on Mar 6th, 2005, 4:30am Sideways Paul Giamatti, Thomas Hayden Church Funny, funny, funny. But this movie is not for you if you are looking for slapstick comedy to be able to laugh. The humor was subtle and all too realistic. There were several laugh out moments, too and well, the screenplay was absolutely brilliant. The panning of camera and the long stretches of road with music in the background was quite reminiscent of 70s tv/movies and there was one scene that for awhile I thought I was watching a 70s film. But it added to the magic of the whole movie. Paul Giamatti plays Myles, a Pinot-noire enthusiast, an english teacher for kids and a published author wanna be. Thomas Hayden Church plays Jack, an altar-bound, washed up actor, who went with Myles to the wine counties in California, intent on getting laid because it was his last chance at freedom. Along the way, these two middle aged guys encountered several "set-backs" (to put it mildly) that you tend to look at these two with such bemusement. They also met Maya (Virginia Fabulous Madsen) and Stephanie (Sandra Oh) and well...it was fun. Favorite Line Maya:I love how wine continues to evolve, how every time I open a bottle its going to taste different than if I had opened it on any other day. Because a bottle of wine is actually alive - it's constantly evolving and gaining complexity. That is, until it peaks - like your '61 - and begins its stead, inevitable decline. And it tastes so f**king good. |

Anyways back to Constantine, its funny that they got Keanu to play him in the movie.Dont get me wrong I like Keanu and he was good in that role. Its just...when Constantine first came out in Swamp Thing....he looked like the singer "Sting" from The Police. And was a lot shorter too. :P |

Over and over, Bloom shirks the dogma of religion and stands up for the true nature of God. When the priest tells Bloom that it would be better to run than to turn and fight, he responds, "You have truly helped me to understand your 'RELIGION'." How rad is that! It's not about the structure or tradition, it's about doing what's right whenever an opportunity presents itself to do so. It's about acknowledging the leading of the Spirit of God himself. |

It was the first time I saw and heard the songs sang on stage with a full orchestra and the characters acting out the scenes. I have to say Les Miserables is one of my favorite musicals of all time. The lyrics of the songs were incredible and the actors had such spectacular voices. I am partial to Lea Salonga as Eponine as I have always liked her in Miss Saigon but Colm Wilkinson took my breath away when he sang Bring Him Home. I practically had goose bumps all over. Michael Ball as Marius Pontmercy has the most soothing voice that reminded me of Raoul's in The Phantom of the Opera. All in all the concert was spectacular! |

So I just came back from seeing it this afternoon. All I can say is...forgive me for my poor taste of descriptions, but I think you will agree with me when you see it...it....was..... Fawking Awesome!!!!!!..... *ahem*....I also cried like a baby at the end....Im not sure for which reason. |

Unlike the previous Batman though, this was more heavy in the drama department and well, I think Christian Bale did justice to the Bruce Wayne/Batman persona. He was really a good choice and if there are anymore Batman movies to come, I like to see Christian Bale reprise his role----MINUS Katie Holmes. There is something grotesque about Katie that I can't point my finger on ----ohh yeah, its Tom Cruise. I also want to see Morgan Freeman again not only in any Batman movies but any movies at all. I think he's one classy actor and he definitely delivers. Favorite Line A guy dresses up like a bat clearly has issues. ---Bruce Wayne |

Still, it seemed surreal to finally see the show version of my music cd that I keep playing over and over again. The fancy footwork, the lovely music, it was pure energy and very entertaining. Favorite Scene A silhouetted Maria Pages against a backdrop of brightly red-orange flames dancing Flamenco to an Andalusian guitar solo, Firedance. Then the stage lit up and Maria Pages, with such limber and at times almost athetoid-like movements, was seen garbed in scarlet dress with full skirt accented by gold and red that seemed like flames licking at her feet everytime she moved. Title: Memoirs of a Geisha Post by ChAntiQ of NarniA on Feb 27th, 2006, 12:45pm Memoirs of a Geisha Splendid scenography. Exotic. Moving. Memories of Japan scene rushes back in my senses. Japanese characters essayed by mostly chinese actors/actresses. Don't you just love it?! ;D It can't be avoided that comparisons on which is better, the book or the movie, shall occur. And the usual result is that the book will always be considered better. Adapting a novel into a movie is no easy task. But I'm quite happy with how the movie turned out. The book focused on a wider aspect of Sayuri's life. While the movie only scratched the surface. Makers of the movie decided to focus more on Sayuri's love for the chairman and a geisha's tragic faith--they are not allowed to choose the one they truly love. For those who have'nt read the book, this is a very good movie. For those who have...it's not so bad after all. Time to scout for a nice kimono...hihihi |

Hi wildheart. First off, MissFartyPants=ClumsilyIdiotic, just in case you're wondering. Now let's get down to business ;D. What's wrong with Brokeback Mountain? It's a love story. Very unique in its approach. Controversial, hell yeah. I am not fond of seeing controversial films because it somehow influences on how I see it. Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with the film. It was boring at first, my curiosity was tweaked by the "tent scene" (long story, I don't feel like getting into it at 3 in the morning ;D). I felt sick the first time watching their lips come together, but I gave it a few more minutes until I become comfortable. Because if you truly give the story a chance and look beyond the sexual orientation of the two main characters, you will be amazed at how love blossoms regardless of. It's a love story. A very moving one at that. It tells of a love that challenges the very meaning of ethics. It defies logic. It's breaking all the 'rules' man. ;D How can you not find it interesting? Call me a textbook hopeless romantic, but I do enjoy the movie and I'm recommending it for all to see. Gay or straight. It's realistic, not entirely of course. But it happens. Sad, but true. I don't expect any guy to see the movie, heck I asked my boyfriend to watch it and he lives in the South, he had the same reaction as you. But how can you turn down a love story? I hope I didn't ruffle your feather with my response. (I need to get back to sleep). |

Title: Re: ~~~~Movies UV Watched Recently~~~~ Post by ChAntiQ of NarniA on Mar 20th, 2006, 11:56am What the Bleep Do We Know Stumbled upon this DVD lying around my Aunt's collection. It's been in the film circuit since 2 years ago. This is truly one of the few films that moved my senses to the MAX. This has stirred, at the very core of me, the possibilities of my own potential. The film stars Marlee Matlin, and the brilliant minds of scientists (the who's-who of quantum physicists, biologists, neurologists and modern day mystics) interviewed throughout the film. Matlin is transported (quite like Alice in Wonderland) after stumbling in a rabbit hole, into a some odd place much like inside of our brains, with electrical storms in between nerve cells. This film is part narrative, documentary, drama, romantic comedy, and scientific treatise. An animated journey of the science of our inner beings with floating representations of cell-like structures that run our lives. This movie works! I highly recommend that you go see this movie! It's really a life changing experience. |

Its about how the American troops who went through so many odeals while trying to safe the iraq refugees from Saddam's regiment. AS usual in American movies they would always portray themselves to be the good samaritans and that the middle east ppl the evil one. Of cos scenes like; when one of the women being shot by an iraqi soldier and how children were among those hundreds of prisoners were unashamedly portrayed in the movie. Nevertheless the only credit I should give to the american movie industry is the good selection of good looking heroes cast in there. That includes George clooney And oh yeah Mark Wahlberg ooooooolala his sexy eyes captures my attention and yes i was mesmerized by his 'sexy' look. I"m Mark Mark Mark all the way..... That movie 3 kings was actually a remake of a movie made in the late 1960s called Kelly's Heros...starring Clint Eastwood, Don Rickels, and Telly Salavas. Only difference is 3 Kings was during the Gulf war called Desert Storm and Kelly's Heros was set in World War 2. They both had the same plot...american troops trying to cash in on money or gold that was in some bank or protected area during wartime and in enemy territory. I disagee with how you say american soldiers are protrayed as good..because in both movies they are portrayed as greedy american soldiers trying to cash in or to profit somehow. Neither of these movies try to hide that fact. Its the plot in the movie...so how could that be portrayed as good???? Anyway a more realistic movie would be a movie I watched a couple of weeks ago called Jarhead. It has Jamie Fox in it and its as accurate as what it can be about 21st century american wartime situations. Aso a very popular style of American Movies or any flim that is made in American is to take a bad character and make him a liked character. Tony Soprano in the Soprano series on HBO is the perfect example. Tony is a mobster. He kills, he steals, he cheats to make money. But Tony is also human. He even goes to therapy. He is a good father and a good family man. He cheats on his wife but he still loves her with all his heart. So in the end Tony ends up to be a real likeable guy. |

Title: Re: ~~~~Movies UV Watched Recently~~~~ Post by Saffire_65 on Apr 20th, 2006, 1:32am As if i care about your opinion. Greed is in every human race so lets not question about that. But the fact that in any war movie between the arabs and US, they strategically showed the mosque and the peace full dawn with the sound of Azan which any fools could clearly see its a muslim country in the middle east and then next in another scene of the arabs soldier shooting innocent woman or children. Their brutality was clearly shown on any war movie. For whatever reason its beyond my knowledge. Was it to infiltrate others mind that the muslims are heartless terrorist or perhaps just to show how inhuman Arabs(muslims) are? Have you ever seen a US soldier mistreating the innocents in any war movie which involves the middle east??? for example raping women and kids??? NEVER! I am very sure that was what happening in real war which will never be portrayed in any movie. why? simply because they wanted to protray the US soldiers a samaritan and the Arabs the evil one. Think before you argue cos you are very well known for your stubborness and yourselfish thoughts. ::) |

Title: Re: ~~~~Movies UV Watched Recently~~~~ Post by thebeast on Jul 4th, 2006, 1:37am I saw Superman this past Friday. It was pretty good. In the movie they took superman to the hospital because he was in bad shape cuz Lex Luthor stabbed him with some kryptonite. Well those doctors and nurses in the Emergency Room forgot that superman was the man of steel because they tried to put a needle IV in him go get some fluids and drugs in him but the needle would always bend when they tried to stick it into his vein. lol ;D I bursted out laughing. |

Title: Re: ~~~~Movies UV Watched Recently~~~~ Post by thebeast on Jul 10th, 2006, 12:37am http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/RBver1.jpg I saw Pirates of the Caribbean Curse of the Dead Man's Chest. I wasnt very happy with this film as I am with most sequels, but it was an okay film. It took to long to get the story going. What I mean is 75% of the way into the movie you are finally gonna understand what the whole point of the movie is. It has great action and of course Capt. Jack Sparrow's comedy, which is nothing new of course. Plus the filmakers broke the golden rule of making sequels....they let you know for sure there is gonna be another sequel. I didnt like the ending at all. The first Pirates movie was a great movie that I liked a lot, but this one is nowhere near as impressive to me. :( |

Title: Re: ~~~~Movies UV Watched Recently~~~~ Post by Wicked_Witch on Jul 13th, 2006, 7:44am I wanted to watch "Superman" the latest...can anyone post a review on it? Chantiq watched it without me, she's a mean friend alright! |

Yes, I understand that but you never make it so obvious. :P I will be surprised if they even get Johnny Depp to be in another. Or maybe they will not give him as a much of a major role. I dont think this one will do as well at the box office as the first one. |

Superman was good I thought. It is pretty much like all the previous superman movies with Chrisopher Reeve, but with a few surprises in it. It has that endless love thing going on with Superman and Lois in it. The new actors in the movie made the movie seem fresh. And I thought it was kind of funny in some parts. The Emergency Room scene is very funny. I liked the way they picked up the story from the previous films. Like I said I not a big fan of sequels but this movie is a good one. |

It is about the aftermath of Hurricaine Katrina in New Orleans. The film shows the struggles of the people of New Orleans. It shows the good and bad of the people of New Orleans and the failure of city, state, and federal governments. It has been over a year and for the most part it is still a mess there. A lot of people will never return. The word is they are gonna focus on high rise condos for the tourists first. Lots of investors are trying to buy land in the poor neighborhoods. Anyway it is a very good film though about 6 hours long. |

Title: Re: ~~~~Movies UV Watched Recently~~~~ Post by thebeast on Oct 26th, 2006, 1:57am http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/lflage2.gif Flags of Our Fathers is the newest movie out by my favorite director, Clint Eastwood. It is a historical movie based on the nonfiction book by James Bradley. Bradley's father was one of the soldiers raising the flag in this photo. This photo caused some controversy because it wasnt the original photo taken. In fact this photo was taken 5 days after the original. But it was this photo that caused the United States to purchase war bonds which would finance World War II. The movie goes into the private lives of 3 of these soldiers. The guilt they delt with due to the fact none of them felt they deserved the attention. I totally disagree with that but I would imagine any regular guy would feel the same way. I am proud of my country but lots of times American Government can do the dumbest of things to sell or promote something. This movie portrays that. Instead of telling the truth...they make up stuff to make it more heroic. It is no different than the Pat Tillman situation. Pat Tillman was a linebacker for the Arizona Cardnals in the NFL. He quit the NFL to join the fight against terrorism. He was killed in Afghanistan . Well in order to sell and promote the war The United States Government put a story out that he was killed by the enemy while on some kind of mission. In reality, he was killed by friendly fire. But in order to promote they tried to hide the fact. Look...to me nothing changes. Is Pat Tillman any less of a hero just because he was killed by friendly fire? To me....anyone in the military, who is over there is a hero. Same as this picture. Just because these guys were not the original ones who put the flag up on Iwo Jima...does that make them any less of heros? I dont think so. |

Though its quite entertaining. |

Title: Re: ~~~~Movies UV Watched Recently~~~~ Post by Wicked_Witch on Nov 9th, 2006, 10:15am I have just watched Mr and Mrs Smith on my daughter's Ipod and I must say it's really a very entertaining one. Bradd Pitt and Angelina Jolie starred in it. Action packed too as the couple played secret agents without each others knowledge that they have the same missions and so they pitied against each other and against their enemies using state-of-the art weapons. And then there's the part too where they both suspected each other of trying to kill each other. It's an action-comedy and I really enjoyed watching it. ;D |

What happened to those places now? The nights are too cold now to even take the dog for a decent walk;the heightened incidences of skin ailments due to exposure to the sun's rays; the seemingly regressing snow covered mountains of the Himalayas and alps; the seals and walruses dying of exhaustion and drowning in the end because it has been swimming across the sea for days to find a decent ice block to rest and take refuge; the dried up expanse of land and dirt where that beautiful lake or river used to be... There is one thing even more vital to science than intelligent |
