Title: (06/06/2005) Change in Free E-Mail Provider
Post by ReeBop on Jun 7th, 2005, 6:31am
After a few requests for a 1freeworld e-mail address, I took a look at the free e-mail service I was using for this purpose:  Zap Zone Network.  I've used Zap Zone for this purpose for several years and I took a look at things to see how it was working.
I found that the two e-mail accounts I setup were gone.  When I once again setup a "webmaster@1freeworld.zzn.com" account, I noticed some very troubling changes.  They now state that you are "required" to install Zango Messenger to use their service.
Folks, Zango Messenger and the associated Zango software is a particularly NASTY piece of spyware.  I did some more reading and found that a lot of people are not happy about this change either.  I decided to shop around for a new provider for a free e-mail service.
I've set things up with Everyone.net and their sponsored e-mail service.  Yeah, you'll get some advertising, but what free e-mail service doesn't.  I have not changed the e-mail link yet, but you can access it for now at:

  http://free.1freeworld.net

The new e-mail addresses will read:
  <username>@free.1freeworld.net

Please, DO NOT  use the ZZN service on my current e-mail page and I strongly recommend that you DO NOT use any e-mail service being served by Zap Zone Network or anyone that mentions Zango Messenger on their site.  I will be revamping the entire site soon but I will hope to make the e-mail page change soon to reflect the new service.

After setting up my own address, I have noticed that there are links in their system to the Zango Messenger.  It is not mandetory however, and I STRONGLY recommend that you do not use it.  I e-mailed the company about Zango, but I honestly do not expect a reply.  I will be placing a warning about Zango on the e-mail page.  Whether this angers the provider or not, I do not care.  This is a nasty piece of software.  You can do a Google and see for yourself.
I also read that if you do not use your account after length of time, they will delete the account.  If you sign up for one, I recommend you use it at least once per month.  Yahoo does something similar and deactivates unused e-mail accounts over time, so I'm not troubled by this.
