Title: Semi Pro Photography Post by thebeast on Jul 22nd, 2005, 2:19am I got my digital camera this past Christmas. I have to admit it is probably the best present I ever got. I want a new and more powerful one now. Anyway I am sure there are lots of others out there whom photography has become a hobby as well. This is a spot to post your pics of anything exotic or cool or whatever photograph that you like. So lets see some cool looking photos that you took...and I am not talking about photos of nude women or dudes with hardly no cloths on. LOL since i started the topic I will share a few photos that I took that while not be the best but they arent the worst either. ;D |

Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by thebeast on Jul 22nd, 2005, 2:24am http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics096.jpg I took this one down at the lake in front of my house on the 4th of July. I had to play around with the camera a bit to get it to come out right. I call it "Works of Fire." Every picture needs a name. Thats the name I choose to call this. |

Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by thebeast on Jul 22nd, 2005, 2:35am http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics145.jpg Well this is one of about 300 I took in Los Cabos, Mexico. I call this one "Tequila Sunset". Why? Well I guess behind those mountains are some Mexicos best tequila plants. So it kinda made sense to me. |

Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by thebeast on Jul 23rd, 2005, 5:35pm http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics140.jpg This is the tip of Lands End. This is not easy to do on a boat that is rocking back and forth. Anyway I name this pic "Lightning Rock". To me it looks like a bolt of lightning. |

Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by ChAntiQ on Nov 10th, 2005, 2:35pm Joel any more pics? Or still taking some more? I love the scenic shots. Would love to see more of the pics you have taken. What kind of camera do you use? I'm still waiting for my 8point-something pixels digital camera to arrive :-/ |
||||||
Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by thebeast on Nov 12th, 2005, 7:40pm thats interesting pic chanti...i cant tell u are the real artsy kind of person...if it not real it still looks good cuz it making me hungry..I scan some of my pics from alaska and put them on here soon. I not have a digital camera then :( Chanti I have a sony 5.0 megapixel cybershot. It nothing fancy. just real small and has a large 2.5 inch LCD. Just point and shoot. I want to get an digital SLR with some stabilization on it, so I can change out the lens on the camera...maybe then it be easier to take shots at night and zoom in much closer. Its so time consuming and hard to do that with the camera I have now. When I go snow skiing this march i will take some scenic shots and post here as well. Is the camera u are waiting on an SLR? If so when u get it tell me more about it. |
||||||
Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by ChAntiQ on Nov 13th, 2005, 4:23pm Nah Joel, im waiting for a new point and shoot digital camera of canon. Someone promised me that lol. That one would have an 8.0 megapixel, high quality wide angle 28-100mm 3.6x optical zoom lens, 2.5 LCD screen, 21 shooting modes, etc. Digital SLR sounds good. I hope you get it and then tell me how you like its features. How many megapixels would it have? for now I'll post artsy fartsy pics on here lol. Like coffee, glasses, food, candles, feet? lol... Happy shootings Joel. Looking forward to seeing more of your shots. |

Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by thebeast on Nov 27th, 2005, 12:15am http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics200.jpg I took this from the lake in front of my house. Shooting pics with a point and shoot camera at night isnt easy. I think it took about 10 times to finally get it halfway decent looking. I call this Moonrise |

Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by thebeast on Nov 27th, 2005, 12:56am One thing I recently become interested as far as photograpy goes is the ability to freeze time. You can take pictures now and then find other pictures of the samething but a lot longer ago. I was in Oklahoma over the Thanksgiving holiday and decided to drive up to the lake and river were I was raised on. These are just pics of the way it looks now compared to the way it was over 70 years ago. The area is rich with history, but you have to go find it. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/15_07.jpg This is Lugert Grain elevator back in 1917. The farmers would bring their wheat here and store it and then it would be loaded on the railroad. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics236.jpg This is the same exact location but more modern elevator with a different name because the town of lugert was destroyed by a tornado. Farmers still bring thier wheat here and load it on the railroad. |
||||||
Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by thebeast on Nov 27th, 2005, 1:16am http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/15_02.jpg this is the town of Lugert back in 1908 http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics062.jpg this is where the town of Lugert used to be before the tornado and before the north fork of the red river was damned to build a lake for the farmers in the surruonding area. I took this pic back in July of 2005. As you can see the water level is already about 6 feet low. You can see the same mountain range in this pic that I took is the same as the previous pic. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics258.jpg This pic I took over the holiday. The previous pic I took from that mountain in this pic. As you can see the water level is extremely low due to the farmers watering thier cotton crops during the summer months. And when the water level goes this low you can start to see evidence of the town of Lugert starting to be exposed. During the summer this is all covered by water and as a kid I would be water skiing where I am standing now taking this pic. And I am willing to bet it will rain a lot up north and the red river will fill it back up and the coming summer of 2006 there will be lots of water skiers doing the same thing i was doing when I was a kid. lol ;D |
||||||
Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by thebeast on Nov 27th, 2005, 1:52am http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/15_04.jpg this is lugert after the big tornado hit it in 1918 http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/15_08.jpg i think this photo was taken back in the 60s hell that might even be my mother and sister lol http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics273.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics271.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics249.jpg more evidence of the town of lugert. I read where there was 40 buildings in the town..I only count 14 but there is still more underwater and not exposed. The town of Lugert was once a thriving community of over 500 people. Just hard to believe that people once lived here. All those years of water skiing over a town is kinda amazing isnt it? ;D |
||||||
Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by ChAntiQ on Nov 27th, 2005, 10:13am These are great pics of Lugert Joel~! Amazing how much of it has changed from the old pics to what they look like now, but still has those little details reminiscent of the old times. |

Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by nOrKAy on Dec 2nd, 2005, 7:57pm "Thousand Buddhas" is one of the famous tourist spots in Hong Kong. If you go there, it's amazing, you won't want to miss a buddha without taking a picture with it. Every statu has different face and posture. There are so many different kinds status of buddhas. And here are some of the biggest buddha status. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kriswen/24f1.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kriswen/8eab.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kriswen/7f14.jpg Then after visiting roaming around the buddhas, you have to go in this offering (pai-saan (read as paysan) chapel and light a stick and stick on the ashes infront of the "altar". Tourists do this ,too but not to worship but to show respect, which I also do, since I am not a Buddhist. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b234/kriswen/43d7.jpg |

Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by thebeast on Dec 8th, 2005, 8:01am http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/12_08a.jpg this is one of the canals from the lake that bring the water to the farmers in the area. this is a photo taken about 60 years ago http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics244.jpg this is a pic taken a few weeks ago of one of the canals near the one above. Its empty now but in the summer all the canals are full. I would swim and water ski in these canals when they are full of water and almost drowned one time. How did i waterski? Well you can see the road next to the canal. Just get a pick up truck a ski rope and some waterskis and a lotta beer and you would be amazed what you can do. In reality none of the boys in my generation came up with the idea. Our fathers invented it and told us about it and we just carried on the tradition. If you get caught you will be in big trouble so you gotta do it when its dark...which makes it even more dangerous lol http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/12_08b.jpg watering the cotton in the early 1900s http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics212.jpg this is one of Elmer Sr. cotton fields http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics213.jpg And this is a cotton module ready to be ginned so you and I can wear cotton shirts and blue jeans. This is what its all about. This is why the canals were built, the north fork of the red river was damned, and why Lake Altus is so low during the fall and winter. ;D |

Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by thebeast on Dec 8th, 2005, 8:43am http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics214.jpg I never even knew this memorial exsisted. Lots of kids drowned in the canals and like i said i was almost one of them. Its very dangerous when they are full of water. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y67/jwthebeast/familypics206.jpg and finally the north fork of the red river. When the lake becomes full sometimes they have to open the gates to the damn and the river is full and flowing but when the lake is low so is the Red River. |

Title: Re: Semi Pro Photography Post by nOrKAy on Dec 27th, 2005, 11:09am These pics were taken in Laguna Niguel, California, where my brother and his family used to live before they moved to Sn.
