This particular program did not hit my radar until I saw some screenshots of its capabilities:

Pixel looks like it has plenty of features including some photo editing thrown in.  I've looked for something that would Photoshop and be easier to use than the Gimp and this may do it for me.  Granted, it may not be as powerful, but then again, I'm not doing magazine layouts either.  It is not free, but it is not expensive to purchase.  There are plenty of platforms supported and I was in shock to see BeOS and OS/2 support.  Here is a screeny for you to peruse.
