Ok...then let me be the first. And since you want only Medical Q's....

I have this rash...down under...and it hurts when I pee. Everyone I ask tells me it's normal. What's your take?? I would draw you a picture but the rash has limited my mobility. I think the rash has something to do with the chair and might I suggest bringing a cushion from home.[smiley=laugh.gif]

If you want I can forward some pics to yah for a more accurate diagnosis.

Oh, I had a very ordinary childhood with the usual scrapes and bruises. I grew up in a house filled with adults though but I had plenty of playmates. However, I was a different kid in school---my hang out was the library---not to study but to read fiction. Pretty nerdy, I was.

oooooooo first crush, um, 8. He was a transferee from Manila. Half Spanish little meztizo who made my heart beat faster. :P Called him up on the phone too. LOL. I was mortified with what I did that I feigned tummy ache the following morning! First love--I wont give details but I was 27 when we met. First kiss---23. Oh gawd. Gracie, you have me giggling here like a teener. Fight? I take it fight with a boyfriend? Oh, 23 as well.

3. At age 5, were u dreaming of becoming a doctor?

No, but I was already fascinated with the hospital but too young to think about it. It wasnt until I was 6 or 7 or probably a year after that when I stumbled upon my aunt's "health book" and there were pictures of diseases. I was so fascinated with them that I vowed to become a doctor. This wasnt always the case though---as I was growing up, I wanted to be a secretary, a cop, a dj, join the army but the turn of events in my life led me to become a doctor quite unintentionally.

4. Given a chance to visit one country...what country would that be and why?

Nepal. I have always been fascinated with countries rich in culture and tradition. I'm not a culture buff but I love color and texture---if that isnt confusing. I guess it also stems from frustration too. I was living in Dhaka/Chittagong for a bit and Kathmandu is just an hour away by plane. My Nepalese friends were all over me to visit their country but I chose HongKong instead. Boy, was that a big mistake. I hated HK.

5. Are u contented with ur life right now?

No. I could do a little life makeover---nothing grand but hands are tied at the moment. Lets see in a few weeks. I wish I have a gay friend.

1. If you had the chance to spend one week with the one you love. where would you take him and what would you do? (parental guidance is advise) ;D

2. Would you ever sacrifice your career for love?

3. Are you willing to be with someone who's not as
intelligible as you are?

4. Do you believe that everyone is capable of pure and unconditional love? if yes, why? if no, why?

5. What do you think is the most desirable trait a woman has that can turn a man from a hater to a lover.

6. Would you rather fall for somebody and wait for him to at least let you know of his feelings and be silent about it or would you rather be crazy and ask the man what his feelings are for you?

Short term plans--well I think I wrote something about this on my blog, 35 Things I Should Have Done By The Time I'm 35. I guess I can add "passing the boards" to that. Long term plans include having a stable practice as a Geriatrician.

This is a hard one, Gracie. Well, lets see. I cry at certain commercials so that means I'm not totally insensitive. But anyway, I'm usually not a difficult person to deal with if you know me too well. Just a bit difficult to get along with. ;D.

That cements my resolve to have nothing to do with the person/situation anymore, painful as it may seem.

LOL! Don't worry, Gracie. You'll get free consultation fees and free meds. What I've seen in our hospitals are the driving force why I'm still here, Gracie. I have every desire to help the needy especially the old folks. I want them to have a better healthcare without having to worry about the cost of medicine or medical services.

10. Picture yourself 15 years from now...please tell us what u'll see.

I see a 48 year old woman, resolute and confident, single, living independently, hair in a ponytail, doing rounds in a hospital, seeing patients at 2am

No, I dont want to live forever. I just want to have my regular set of years and be done with it. Why? Because the far future is a place that I will not know anybody. Yes. As long as he becomes Catholic. LOL. Nah, I would marry him regardless of his beliefs. I had a bf who was an atheist. By far, he was the only one who treated me right, unlike the so-called "christian" ones. But of course, it would be cozy if the man I am to marry is also Catholic so that he won't be surprised at the Catholic things we do. ;D

5. What do you think is the educational situation in the Philippines today and how will you help it to improve it in you own little way?

The education system here in P.I. is in the worst way possible. It's deteriorating. I have a friend who teaches highschool and she has told me a lot of scary stories. Nope, not kids bringing guns to school but kids not knowing who Barret-Browning was, what a prism is. My mom is a teacher too. She teaches college students and she has told me a lot of heartbreaking stories about freshmen college students coming to class in full regalia of the latest fashion but can not even say a correct English sentence. What can I do in my own little way? I urge them to read. I give books as presents all the time. ;D

When I was a kid, they made us see this movie called "The Hiding Place" about the Holocaust. Its a story of this family who hid Jews in a very small closet to protect them from the Nazis. I cried and cried throughout the film and I think I had nightmares. I was 6, I think, at that time. They shouldnt have let students see that. I dont know if that movie influenced me in a way but I remember just crying and crying because my heart was aching as I felt so sad for the family.

I dont think so. Too many favorites.

Long distance relationships are tough but it can work. I've seen it around me. I've tried it and its okay but I dont want to choose it again. It requires such tremendous self-sacrifice and absolute commitment to work. Two essential ingredients that become more important than love when distance is wedged between lovers. Why doesnt it work? Oh, its like any relationship---it doesn't work when love is gone.

Well, my dog has never been intelligible yet we're living together. lol. But someone who is not as intelligent? I think I'll walk all over him if he's not as bright but I'm ashamed to admit that.

Yes, everyone is capable of pure and unconditional love. I've seen that in mothers and people who have pets. Man is inherently capable of loving no matter what form. On the philosophical plane, man is born to love but he is also given the choice to give it purely and unconditionally or selfishly.

I have never performed this feat of magic, My. Hehehe. I think I was sleeping when they passed this trait around cos when a man hates me, he hates me forever.

I did this once, let him know that I'm crazy about him and the court ordered me to stay at least a 100 feet away and not to contact him anymore. ;D ;D ;D

Hmmmmm. I dont know. I don't have the luxury to take a sabbatical and write a book. I need to be earning. But I do want to write, but what? Well, I guess, it has to be something in the medical area.

Honestly? No. Sometimes I think about what kind of future I will have but it has never entered into my plans to be a wife and a mother. Sometimes, I even say to myself, "wait a minute, where does family figure into all these?" and I draw a blank.

I knew Timbuktu was somewhere in Africa but I don't know its capital. So I cheated and searched it on the internet and I couldnt find it. However, thanks to you I have discovered a site with lots of breathtaking pictures taken in Timbuktu and I guess thats one of my dream places to visit now.

Oh, 32-36 hours---this is the norm when I'm on duty and a "previous." A previous is someone who has been on duty for the past 24 hours but has to stick around for another 8 or 12 hours to do ward duties and follow up patients he admitted on his 24 hour duty. Ward duties arent so bad cos you can nap in between "pagings" but its tough when you have to be in the Operating Room all day.

6.Would you want a freewill man in your life or a stepford husband?

I deal with people. I deal with healing, I deal with the family, I deal with hope and losing hope, I deal with anger, I deal with denial and most of all, I deal with death. There is nothing more sad or tragic than telling the family that their son or father or baby has an incurable disease or has died. The emotions just get to you. You would think that after so many years, I wouldnt get affected but I still do. I still cry when my patient dies.

While to some, motherhood is the ultimate womanly thing to do, it is not for me. At the risk of sounding selfish, I know myself and I don't have the patience dealing with kids. And, I'm scared of childbirth. I've delivered a lot of babies and the pain the mother goes through is incredible. I just can't handle pain like that.

Steroids are what we call a "magic" drug. It does magic simply by minimizing inflammation that goes on with every disease process. Asthma is a disease characterized inflammation of the bronchial airways. When there is inflammation, there is swelling. Therefore, the patient cannot breathe cos the swelling causes blockade esp in the air exchange. So the most common medicine prescribed to asthmatics are steroids aside from salbutamol and other beta agonists. So my answer is---Steroids can help asthmatics. In fact, steroids are one of the main components found in the inhalers used by asthmatics. Is steroid bad? Yes. It stunts the growth of children, it affects the adrenal glands causing depletion of the body's own steroids supply. It can wreck your immune system and make you susceptible to infections. Therefore this drug should be used with caution.
