Title: "Smart" To Be Sold In The USA? Post by ReeBop on Feb 29th, 2004, 6:42pm Well, I knoe that most americans like big cars, but I love small cars a lot. I watched on Motor Week on PBS that Mercedes will be bringing their Smart brand over for 2005. With the gas prices high again, will the US marketplace be receptive to these rather cute yet gas frugal cars? On another note, did the guy who designed the Toyota Echo get released from drug rehab yet? :D Why does everyone else get the far better looking Yaris and we get saddled with the Echo? |

Ree, Just to clarify this topic, Just what exactly is the Smart brand? Is it similar to Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology or is it more of a Hybrid gas/electric engine? I haven't heard much about the Smart Brand. As for the Toyota Echo. At least the Echo is made with some sort of quality controls, while a similar car in both price and niche market in the same catagory Ford Focus falls apart in the first year of ownership. Many consumer reports have relayed information that the Ford Focus is a hunk-of-junk. Too many problems to list here. As for the Yaris, I have not heard of this car at all, who makes it? Gotta love MotorWeek. ;D |

You have some that get a big car because everyone has a big car, and then there are those that need it. For me, my car is getting too small. Its hard to carry fishing, and camping gear. So for me, I need a bigger car, or a truck. At the same time, i'm going to go for a good car, but not with all the junk like heated seats and that stuff. Things I don't need. |

Title: Re: Smart to be sold in the US? Post by thebeast on Jun 19th, 2004, 1:48am Well a smart car might get better gas milage, but thats about it. Small sports cars are real fun to drive, but thats it. European car makers like Mercedes and BMW are starting to get worried cuz Japanese auto manufacturers like toyota/lexus, Nissan/Infinity, and Honda/Accura and even American auto manufactures are getting more of the pie. Personally I think the European autos have slacked off over the past few years. I dont think these weird looking economy cars will sell very much. The big SUV sales are still rising even with the gasoline prices as high as what they are. Hell I hate putting gas in my Tahoe, but thats not gonna stop me from putting gas in it. |
